KL cops to destroy RM44.3m worth of drugs, equipment in major disposal exercise

KUALA LUMPUR: City police will dispose of more than RM44.3 million worth of drugs and processing equipment following the conclusion of over 21,000 drug cases.
City police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the disposal involved nearly one tonne of drugs in solid form as well as 1,345 litres of drugs in liquid form.
"The disposal will be conducted under the Inspector-General of Police Standing Order D207," he told reporters at the city police headquarters today.
He said the seized drugs included methamphetamine, cannabis, cocaine, ketamine, and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).
"The disposal involves 21,293 investigation papers that have completed prosecution in court from 2009 to 2024.
"Methamphetamine and ketamine topped the charts with 245.56kg worth RM27.01 million, followed by MDMA with 140.39kg worth RM7.01 million, cannabis with 199.09kg worth RM5.97 million, and heroin with 87.05kg worth RM2.17 million."
Fadil said the drugs would be destroyed with the assistance of Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd.
"The company converts scheduled waste to energy using an incinerator, which generates new energy in an orderly and pollution-free manner.

The affected roads are Lebuh Wawasan/Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Tun Razak/Lebuh Bestari, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan P2K, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Pembangunan and Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan P3C. Also affected are Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan P3F, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Kemerdekaan, Lebuh Setia/Jalan Perpaduan, Lebuh Saujana/Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Setia/Jalan Tun Hussien, Jalan Kemerdekaan/Jalan Tun Hussien and Jalan Pembangunan/Jalan Tun Hussien. "Road closures starting at 10pm on Aug 29 will involve access to Core Island," he said today. He said 14 main roads will be fully closed until Aug 31. These include Lingkaran Putrajaya/Jambatan Saujana, Lebuh Sentosa/Lebuh Wawasan, the traffic light junction in Lebuh Wawasan/Jambatan Wawasan (from P9), the slip road from Lebuh Sentosa/Lebuh Wawasan (from P. Utara) and the traffic light in Lebuh Wawasan/Jalan P8H. Also affected are Bulatan Salahuddin/Dataran Perdana, the traffic light in Lebuh Bestari/Jalan Tun Hussien, the traffic light in Jalan Pembangunan/Jalan Tun Hussien, the traffic light in Jalan Kemerdekaan–P18/Jalan Tun Hussien, the traffic light in Lebuh Setia/Jalan Tun Hussien and the traffic light in Lebuh Saujana/Jalan Tun Hussien. The traffic light in Lingkaran Gemilang Satu/Persiaran Perdana, the traffic light in Lebuh Gemilang/Persiaran Perdana-Jambatan Gemilang and Lebuh Sentosa/Jambatan Saujana are also affected. Fadil said police made detailed preparations to ensure public safety and reduce traffic congestion during the celebration. He said police would conduct Op Pencegahan Jenayah on the eve of National Day, focusing on hotspot areas, crowded spots and preventing crime in the capital. "The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will manage traffic at key locations, such as Dataran Merdeka, KLCC, Bukit Bintang and TRX, which will attract large crowds that night. "A total of 2,708 officers and personnel will ensure security and traffic control during the National Day celebration in Putrajaya, with 100,000 visitors expected to attend." Fadil advised the public to plan their journey, arrive early and use public transport, such as the free shuttle bus operating every 15 minutes at three locations. He said the Putrajaya MRT Line would operate from 12.01am on Aug 30 until midnight on Aug 31, while the water taxi service would run from 8pm on Aug 30 to 1am on Aug 31 for the paid service and from 5am to 2pm on Aug 31 for the free service. "Obtain the latest information on public transport services through official social media platforms, at and from Perbadanan Putrajaya. "The public is advised not to park their vehicles in restricted areas or in places that could cause traffic disruption." or approach any nearby police station.
