Experienced head coach Sam Vincent has bemoaned the current structure of SA's domestic Basketball National League (BNL), saying it needs to change if the country's teams are to be successful on the continent.

Team SA strike gold in Zimbabwe
The SA Motocross Team won the 2025 FIM Motocross of African Nations Continental Championship that was held at the Donnybrook MX Circuit on the outskirts of Harare in Zimbabwe at the weekend. The event hosted by the local Bogwheelers Club is sanctioned by FIM Africa and represents the pinnacle of motocross riders across Africa and caters for juniors, seniors, veterans and women's categories with teams from Botswana, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia, SA and Zimbabwe taking part. Rover Motorcycle Club was well represented by Breece Romans, Caden Weise, Wian Scheepers and Riley Geldenhuys. Romans competing in the MX2 class finished in third place overall, helping Team SA take the overall class win, while Caden Weise just missed out on a podium finish in the super-competitive MX125 class, finishing in fourth overall with SA taking the class win. The MX65 class that had 26 competitors saw Riley Geldenhuys finishing in fifth overall helping SA take a dominant class win, while Wiaan Scheepers also secured a fifth-place finish in the MX50 class and SA once again won the class. These class wins went a long way to securing the overall win for the South African team, who were pushed hard at times by a very competitive Zimbabwean team, who finished in second place overall followed by Uganda in third. The championship that continues to show tremendous growth since its inception in 2001 has now become an annual event with the 2026 MXoAN Championship set to take place in Namibia. Proteas rally around Subrayen after bowler reported for 'chucking'
Prenelan Subrayen will undergo an independent test of his bowling action in Brisbane next week after he was reported for a suspect action during Tuesday's first ODI against Australia. Though Subrayen, who made his ODI debut in the Cairns match, is still allowed to play before the test, Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad confirmed on Thursday he will not be selected for the remaining two ODIs Down Under. 'We felt, with Subs, to create less noise, get him out of the public eye and make sure he's OK and focuses on this testing,' said Conrad. The International Cricket Council said on Wednesday match officials 'cited concerns about the legality' of Subrayen's action. According to Conrad, the officials flagged 12 deliveries from Subrayen during Tuesday's match. 'The process is to get him tested as soon as we possibly can. We're looking to do that in Brisbane, which suits everyone. We're going to the UK via Brisbane, so hopefully we get that done sooner rather than later.'

Springboks out to keep Wallabies at bay in Cape Town
When Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu fronts the media, his attacking prowess is more often than not the topic of conversation. However, in the lead-up to Saturday's Rugby Championship clash in Cape Town he had to front questions about how the Springboks would keep the Wallabies, with their tails up, at bay. The Boks failed to do so at Ellis Park last weekend as Joe Schmidt's team beat their opponents' rush defence, a hostile crowd, the altitude and the odds. They buried the Boks in a 14-minute blitz from which the much-fancied home team could not recover. The Wallabies' 38 points was their highest match-day tally against the Boks in 14 years. The Boks may have to perform what Aussie performer Rolf Harris described in his ditty Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport. 'We have a defensive system where we apply pressure on the opposition and sometimes you have to concede a few metres on the edges,' said Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who is among the substitutes for Saturday's Test 'It is something we know about and nothing new to us. We haven't focused on it too much. There were system errors leading up to these bridge passes that caught us in those positions, so those are things we looked at fixing.
