Riyadh, KSA: Automechanika Riyadh 2025, Saudi Arabia's leading trade show for the automotive aftermarket industry, concluded last month at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre (RICEC) with a 35% year-on-year increase in attendance.
The event showcased over 450 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and highlighted the Middle East's position as a global hub for the automotive industry. The domestic market represented 90% of visitors, with international markets accounting for 10% of attendees.
As Saudi Arabia accelerates progress under Vision 2030, major projects such as Lucid Motors' new plant in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and the launch of Ceer, Saudi's first electric vehicle brand, reflect the Kingdom's commitment to localising the automotive value chain.
The wider MENA region is also contributing significantly, with Morocco targeting an annual production of one million vehicles by 2025 and the UAE strengthening its role in aftermarket services and re-exports.
In his keynote address at Automechanika Riyadh, Dr Faisal Al-Kadi, CEO of Al Kadi Commerce & Industry, underscored the importance of fostering strong local and international partnerships to drive sustainable growth. This was echoed in a high-level panel discussion on 'Building the Middle East's automotive hub', which examined supply chain development, certification frameworks and the role of collaboration across sectors in supporting the region's transformation.
During the event, industry voices, including Ben Stewart, Supply Chain Director, Lucid MENA and Aftab Ahmed, Chief Advisor, National Industrial Development Centre, highlighted the critical need for government and private sector cooperation to create a robust, standardised, sustainable supply chain ecosystem. Discussions highlighted the importance of certification, localisation and long-term industrial planning as key pillars for establishing trust and competitiveness in the regional market.

Standard Chartered launches its direct custody services in Egypt - Economy
Standard Chartered has announced the launch of its direct custody services in Egypt, marking a significant expansion of its global post-trade network across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the international banking group said in a statement on Wednesday. The move aims to strengthen regional capital flows and enhance investor access to Egypt's growing financial markets. The launch builds on the bank's earlier introduction of custody services in Saudi Arabia this year and reflects its strategy to deepen its footprint in high-growth, strategically important markets. Operated through Standard Chartered Egypt, the service enables institutional clients to hold and manage a variety of securities with greater efficiency, transparency, and security. The offering covers equities, treasury bills, government bonds, and corporate bonds and includes safekeeping, settlements, and corporate action services. Clients can access these through multiple channels, including the bank's globally recognized Straight2Bank (S2B) platform. Mohammed Gad, CEO of Standard Chartered Egypt, described the launch as a key milestone in the bank's efforts to strengthen Egypt's financial infrastructure and expand investor access to the region. 'Egypt is a vital market for us, not only as a new BRICS member, but as a rising investment hub linking Africa, the Gulf, and beyond,' Gad said. 'By introducing direct custody services from day one, we are providing institutional clients with greater speed, transparency, and operational efficiency. Backed by our global platform and deep local expertise, this offering will help unlock capital flows into Egypt and support the growth of a more resilient, connected capital market.' The custody service is fully licensed by the Financial Regulatory Authority and approved by the Central Bank of Egypt. Standard Chartered said the move aligns with Egypt's wider ambitions to modernize its financial ecosystem, attract foreign direct investment, and diversify sources of capital under Vision 2030. According to the bank, growing interest from investors across Asia, the Gulf, and Africa makes this an opportune moment to offer institutional-grade post-trade solutions in Egypt. Scott Dickinson, regional head of Financing and Securities Services for Africa and the Middle East, emphasized the bank's commitment to enhancing market access in emerging economies. "Standard Chartered's expanding custody footprint across the region underlines our commitment to supporting capital markets in key emerging economies,' Dickinson said. 'By improving investor access, raising service standards, and helping attract long-term capital, we continue to play a leading role in connecting global investment to opportunity across MENA,' he added. With Egypt now part of the bank's custody network, Standard Chartered is positioned to facilitate smoother cross-border investment flows, reinforcing its role as a bridge between global investors and one of the region's most dynamic markets. Standard Chartered Bank officially commenced its banking operations in the Egyptian market in January 2024. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

PM: Gov't keen on following up on GTEZ development efforts
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday, August 11th, 2025, affirmed the government's keenness to follow up on the role of the General Authority for the Golden Triangle Economic Zone (GTEZ) in developing this promising area. The premier said that the government attaches great importance to the development of the golden triangle zone, in light of its strategic potential for implementing diverse projects that support Egypt's sustainable development plans. Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting with GTEZ Chairman Mohamed Abadi at the government headquarters in New Alamein City in Egypt's North Coast to review a number of files related to the authority's activities. During the meeting, Abady reviewed projects carried out by the authority throughout the recent months. He highlighted structural updates of the GTEZ, including the reformation of the new board of directors for the Golden Triangle and its affiliate committees, the establishment of a dedicated commercial registry office for the authority to register companies, the renovation of the authority's headquarters in Safaga, along with finalizing several regulations, procedures and commercial agreement templates. As regards GTEZ business development and promotion efforts, Abady said that the authority had reached an agreement with one of the largest local and international industrial developers to establish an industrial zone for phosphate fertilizer production. The authority has also engaged with major regional and international developers in targeted sectors to establish and develop several specialized zones, alongside attracting domestic and foreign developers and investors in industrial, agricultural, and logistics sectors, Abady added. He shed light on the authority's development plan for the Golden Triangle Economic Zone for 2025–2026, noting that the goal this year is to achieve financial sustainability and meet objectives without imposing any financial burden on the state. The Golden Triangle is situated between the Nile River and the Red Sea, encompassing parts of the Red Sea and Qena governorates. The triangle is defined by the cities of Qena, Safaga, and Quseir. It is a significant national project under Egypt's Vision 2030, focused on developing an integrated economic zone with a focus on mining, agriculture, and tourism. The area is rich in mineral resources, including phosphates, iron, and copper, and the project aims to attract investment and create jobs.
