Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 with AI, gaming, and camera upgrades for mid-range smartphones
Qualcomm has unveiled its new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 mobile platform, designed to bring advanced features to a wider range of mid-tier smartphones. Built using TSMC's 4nm process, this chipset introduces enhanced AI functions, gaming improvements, and upgraded camera support. It also enables large language models (LLMs) and generative AI assistants to operate directly on devices without relying on cloud processing.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 features a prime CPU core running at 2.8GHz, which is supported by four performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz and three efficiency cores reaching up to 1.8GHz. This architecture promises a 27 percent boost in CPU speed compared to its predecessor. The integrated Adreno GPU delivers 30 percent faster graphics rendering, while AI performance sees a 65 percent increase, claims Qualcomm. Qualcomm's AI Engine powers these on-device capabilities.

On the other hand, it includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF system. The platform supports LP-DDR5x RAM running at 4,200MHz and various storage standards including UFS 4.0, 3.1, and 2. It also carries Snapdragon Sound technology, which incorporates Qualcomm's Expanded Personal Area Network (XPAN) and Aqstic audio codec to handle multiple audio formats.

Furthermore, camera enhancements also come through the Qualcomm Spectra Image Signal Processor and Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which supports INT4, INT8, and INT16 precision levels for AI tasks. The chipset enables AI-driven autofocus, auto white balance, and auto exposure adjustments for both photos and videos. It also supports electronic image stabilisation and can capture HDR videos at up to 4K resolution and 30 frames per second.
For gaming, Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, Triple ISP, and Adaptive Game Configuration improve responsiveness and visual quality have also been included.

Qualcomm confirmed that smartphone brands such as Honor, Vivo, and Realme will be among the first to integrate the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 into their upcoming smartphones. These devices are expected to launch soon, targeting mid-range and upper mid-range markets. The new chipset is designed to offer competitive pricing alongside features previously only available in flagship phones. It will provide consumers with access to advanced AI, gaming and camera improvements in more affordable devices.

Apple has brought in Tata Group to handle repairs for iPhones and MacBook devices in its fast-growing Indian market, signalling the Indian conglomerate's deepening role in the U.S. tech giant's supply chain, two people familiar with the matter said. As Apple looks beyond China for manufacturing, Tata has fast emerged as its key supplier and already assembles iPhones for local and foreign markets at three facilities in south India, with one of them also making some iPhone components. Counterpoint Research estimates around 11 million iPhones were sold in India last year, giving Apple a 7 per cent market share, compared to just 1 per cent in 2020. The latest contract award signals Apple's growing confidence on Tata as it hopes to win more business from the world's most valuable smartphone company. "Tata's deepening partnership with Apple could also pave the groundwork for Apple directly selling refurbished devices in India, like how it does in the United States currently," said Prabhu Ram, a vice president at Cybermedia Research. The takeover from ICT by Tata is currently ongoing, both sources said, who declined to be named as they were not authorized to speak on the matter. Apple and Wistron did not respond to requests for comment, while a spokesperson for Tata declined to comment. While Apple's official service centres across India can do basic repairs, they would now ship phones and laptops to Tata's facility for more complex issues. Wistron's ICT however will continue to service other clients excluding Apple, one of the sources said. Amid an impending threat of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on China, India is also emerging as a favoured destination for iPhone exports. Apple CEO Tim Cook has said the bulk of iPhones sold in the United States during June quarter will be made at factories in India.

The compact size also makes edge interactions easier — gestures feel more controlled, and reaching across the screen doesn't require shifting the phone in hand. While the OnePlus 13s doesn't bring groundbreaking innovations to the display, it offers a polished and well-balanced experience suited to its compact design. The interface remains clean and lightweight, with minimal bloat and thoughtful customizations that enhance usability rather than overwhelm it. Android 15 brings under-the-hood improvements like better background process handling, and smoother multitasking — all of which contribute to a stable and fluid experience. Navigation is snappy, multitasking is fluid, and animations feel polished. We didn't encounter any noticeable bugs or slowdowns during use, and transitions between apps remained smooth even under load. OxygenOS also continues to strike a good balance between customization and simplicity. There's enough flexibility for users who like to tweak, but the defaults are sensible for those who prefer a straightforward setup. Features like Zen Mode, Private Safe, and Shelf are still here. AI on smartphones often feels like a collection of flashy features that sound good on paper but rarely make a lasting difference in everyday use. On the OnePlus 13s, however, OnePlus AI takes a more focused and useful approach. At the center of it all is AI Plus Mind, OnePlus' new personal assistant tool. It's a small but clever addition that changes how you save and find information. Whether it's a message, article, or photo, simply pressing the Plus Key or swiping up with three fingers stores it in Mind Space — a central place where all your saved content lives. No need to remember which app you saved something in; a quick search using natural language usually gets you what you need. Over time, AI Plus Mind starts doing more. If you're looking at a calendar invite or a flight detail, it may suggest adding it to your calendar or helping with travel plans. The system is designed to get smarter with use, and future updates are expected to expand these contextual suggestions. The OnePlus 13s also features AI Search, which lets you find files, messages, or even buried PDF details just by asking questions in plain English. In our experience, it worked well with both on-device content and app-based info — no digging through folders or long scrolling needed. Another standout is AI VoiceScribe, which can record, summarize, and translate conversations or meetings across apps like WhatsApp, Zoom, and Instagram.
