Estée Laundry is back—and this time it's got a newsletter

Fast Companya day ago
Estée Laundry, the anonymous Instagram account and self-proclaimed beauty industry 'watchdog', is back after a two-year hiatus.
Estée Laundry—the name a play on beauty giant Estée Lauder— launched in 2018 to air out 'the beauty industry's dirty laundry,' as the account's bio once read. It posted regularly, and followers, or 'Laundrites', were encouraged to weigh in on daily beauty news and controversies. That continued until some members of the anonymous collective left, and the account ultimately went quiet in 2023.
This month, however, a new post appeared asking followers, 'serious question, are there still any exciting beauty brands?' In a recent interview with Business of Fashion, the beauty custodian described itself as a 'group of outsiders with ties to the beauty industry.' Those ties remain strong enough to break news: the account was the first to share an internal memo announcing layoffs at Shiseido Americas last week.
Like its fashion industry counterpart Diet Prada, Estée Laundry grew its nearly 200,000-strong following by spotlighting industry-wide issues such as cultural appropriation, lack of diversity, and unsubstantiated product claims. Major brands that have found themselves in the crosshairs include millennial-favorite Glossier, Fenty Beauty, and the Kardashians, to name a few.
In 2022, the account famously flagged former Estée Lauder Companies executive John Demsey's Instagram post that included a racial epithet (which he swiftly deleted). 'How's it OK for a beauty executive (responsible for the branding and direction of a company that claims to focus on diversity and inclusion) to post this?' the account questioned. The executive was forced to resign less than a week later, The New York Times reported.
Now, Estée Laundry is back and shifting gears. With the relaunch, the group is intentionally moving away from its vigilante roots and instead focusing on 'longform opinion pieces' via a weekly Patreon newsletter, aptly named Laundry Service, for $8 a month.
A representative told Business of Fashion, 'We think of ourselves as a beauty industry observer.'

Torex Gold Resources to acquire Prime Mining

Torex Gold Resources has sealed a definitive agreement to acquire all issued and outstanding common shares of Prime Mining. This transaction will grant Torex a 100% interest in the Los Reyes gold-silver project. The Los Reyes project in Mexico is an advanced exploration/development-stage asset. It contains a combined underground and open-pit mineral resource of around 1.5 million ounces (moz) of gold and 54moz of silver in the Indicated segment, as well as 538,000 ounces of gold and 21.6moz of silver in the Inferred segment. Prime Mining shareholders are set to receive 0.060 of a Torex share for each share held. This exchange ratio implies a 32.4% premium to Prime Mining's 30-day volume-weighted average price as of 25 July 2025. Torex president and CEO Jody Kuzenko said: 'The Los Reyes project represents a unique opportunity for the Torex team to develop a high-quality asset with the potential for a high-margin, low-capital and long-life operation in a jurisdiction that we know very well. 'The acquisition of Prime Mining, and the previously announced all-cash acquisition of Reyna Silver, support our strategy to systematically build a diversified, Americas-focused precious metals producer with a portfolio of producing, development and exploration stage assets.' The transaction values Prime Mining at approximately $449m (C$617.37m), with Torex issuing around 10.5 million new shares. Post-transaction, Prime Mining shareholders will own roughly 10.7% of Torex. Notably, the transaction does not require a vote from Torex shareholders. However, Prime Mining's major stakeholders, including Pierre Lassonde and senior officers, have agreed to vote in favour of the transaction. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions including court and regulatory approvals. A termination fee of $12.5m is stipulated if the transaction is not completed under certain conditions. The arrangement will also see the settlement of Prime Mining's restricted stock units (RSUs) and deferred share units (DSUs), with an adjustment of outstanding options and warrants to Torex's terms. Subject to regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2025 (H2 2025), with the delisting of Prime Mining shares from the Toronto Stock Exchange to follow. CIBC World Markets and Cassels Brock & Blackwell are advising Torex, while Trinity Advisors Corporation, BMO Nesbitt Burns, and Blake, Cassels & Graydon are advising Prime Mining. Prime Mining director and CEO Scott Hicks said: 'The addition of Prime Mining's high-quality Los Reyes project to the Torex pipeline as its next development asset presents both Prime Mining and Torex shareholders with substantial value enhancement through this share-based acquisition. 'In addition to gaining exposure to Torex's free-cash flowing Morelos Complex, Prime Mining shareholders can continue to realise significant value creation as Los Reyes is developed with the benefit of Torex's operational and development experience in Mexico.' Additionally, Torex has announced the planned acquisition of Reyna Silver for C$36m, further consolidating its position in the mining sector. "Torex Gold Resources to acquire Prime Mining" was originally created and published by Mining Technology, a GlobalData owned brand. Boeing posts smaller loss as jet deliveries rise

(Reuters) -Boeing reported a smaller second-quarter loss on Tuesday as the U.S. planemaker ramped up jet production and deliveries, recovering from a regulatory crisis and a major strike that halted most production last year. Shares of the company rose 1.5% in premarket trading. After years of grappling with quality issues and production delays on its flagship 737 MAX, Boeing has cautiously ramped up monthly output this year. In May, the company produced 38 737s. Production has been stable since then, according to the company. "As we continue to execute our Safety & Quality Plan, there's more stability in our operations," CEO Kelly Ortberg said in a letter to Boeing employees on Tuesday. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration had capped the production of Boeing's best selling 737 MAX jets following a mid-air panel blowout in a nearly new jet in January 2024. "We plan to seek FAA approval to increase to rate 42 when our key performance indicators (KPIs) show that we're ready," Ortberg added. It has delivered 206 737 MAX jets through the first half of the year. Wall Street closely tracks aircraft deliveries, because planemakers collect much of their payment when they hand over jets to customers. Boeing also increased 787 production at its plant in Charleston, South Carolina, from five aircraft a month to seven a month. Through the first half of the year, the planemaker has booked 668 orders, or 625 net orders after cancellations and conversions. An improvement in deliveries marks a pivotal step in Boeing's effort to rebound from years of production disruptions and crises that piled on debt, highlighting the urgency of accelerating output to restore financial stability. The planemaker posted a net loss of $612 million, or 92 cents per share, for the quarter through June, compared with $1.44 billion, or $2.33 per share, a year earlier. However, the planemaker continues to face pressure from supply chain disruptions that have delayed production and limited its ability to meet surging aerospace demand. It posted a loss of nearly $12 billion in 2024 due to challenges across its major business units including charges on its defense programs. It also remains exposed to U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs, which could increase parts costs and further strain an already fragile supply chain. Boeing's revenue for the quarter through June rose 35% to $22.75 billion.
