Expect a cool, soggy Memorial Day weekend
(WBRE/WYOU) — The wet weather pattern lingers into the Memorial Day weekend.
Friday and Saturday will feature plenty of clouds, drizzle, and off-and-on scattered showers. Temperatures remain well below average with highs in the upper 50s, the average high for Avoca Airport is 74 degrees.
Sunday will have more clouds than sun with a shower possible. Highs in the mid-60s.
Monday looks to be the 'driest' of the three-day weekend. While a stray shower can't be completely ruled out, most of the day is dry with clouds and some sunshine. Highs around 70.
Despite the constant rainy pattern, at least we are out of the drought from Fall 2024!

Lake City Fire Company welcomes community for annual carnival
The annual Lake City Fire Company Carnival kicked off Thursday evening, with our own Tom Atkins enjoying the festivities. The event features children's rides, craft and food vendors as well as live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Backyard garage catches fire at West 38th Street home Winners of a raffle to benefit the fire company will also be announced. They'll walk away with bonus money if they're at the carnival for the live drawings. The highly anticipated carnival is all for a good cause. Gaithersburg residents beat the heat with a pool day
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (DC News Now) — Thursday was the first day this year temperatures reached the 90s. And it was a scorcher as many tried to find ways to beat the heat. DC News Now talked to some families at a neighborhood pool in Gaithersburg who were staying cool by swimming. Matt Michelson brought his kids to take a dip. 'On a hot day like today, when it's 94 degrees outside, it is important to stay cool, and we have this nice pool in the neighborhood, and we brought our family to take a dip to stay nice and cool and relax as a family,' Michelson said. Summer Street Festival returning to Downtown Hagerstown 11-year-old Ellie Simpson and her friends also spent time swimming to beat the heat. 'I think the hot weather is nice, but it's so hot. I also think it's good to come to the pool because we can cool off, and it feels good to be in the pool,' Simpson said. Dr. Jonathan Wenk says that with the humid and hot conditions, people should be drinking enough water and taking breaks during the day. Wenk is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at White Oak Adventist Medical Center. 'In general, you want to try to stay indoors where it's cool. You also need to be drinking enough water, 8-10 glasses of water per day, or more if you are going to be outside in the heat. But going to the pool or a splash pad is a good way to stay cool,' explained Wenk. Wenk also encourages elderly citizens in the DMV to stay indoors during this heat wave as a precaution. It seems Kern County is in for a warm weekend ahead, with temperatures staying in the upper 90's for Father's Day. Temperatures are expected to remain in the double digits at least until next Wednesday, before a brief warm-up and the introduction of triple digits sets in. Expect another cool down, with low 90's on top for next weekend. Pretty sick conditions will persist across our mountains and deer slopes due to a zonal flow pattern, with winds coming in from west to east. Air quality will be moderate tomorrow for the region.
