OUT OF THIS WORLD Inside Universal Studios' brand new Epic Universe – here's what you should see
IT'S been a long time since I've been to Universal Studios Orlando.
The hazy days of 1999 feel much further away than its quarter of a century of distance.

The Isle of Berk brings the classic How To Train Your Dragon films to life
So when I heard about the grand opening of the first new theme park in Florida in 25 years, I just had to be there.
Universal has been working for years to bring the incredible new Epic Universe to the theme-park capital and it was well worth waiting for.
It's home to five brand new hyper-immersive worlds themed on legendary franchises with rides, shows, and experiences unlike anything else in the world.
Travelling over to Florida, I enjoyed the luxury of British Airways World Traveller Plus, which offers lots of comfort and some serious leg room. This is long-haul luxury I could get used to.

With over two decades since my last visit, it's safe to say things have changed a tad.
I stayed at the thoroughly modern Universal Stella Nova resort, just a five-minute bus journey from the centre of all the excitement in the new park.
The rooms were absolutely huge, with plenty of space for families to use as a base for their trip.
Stepping into Celestial Park, it was clear this was on another level compared to anything I had ever experienced before.

Acting as a hub and a world in its own right, it features plenty of restaurants and attractions for visitors to explore.
The highlight of Celestial Park, and one of the best thrill rides Universal has to offer, is Stardust Racers, which features two carts that intertwine and loop round each other as they battle to reach the finish.
Most popular treats for Brits on holiday
It goes toe-to-toe with the most hardcore rides in the original park.
To get the full experience, make sure to split your party of riders in two.

Spinning fully vertical over your friends at 62mph while waving and jeering each other during straight sections makes this one of the most enjoyable coasters on the planet.
My pals and I chose to ride it four times in one day, including twice back-to-back on each set of cars. It was just that good!
Stepping through the entrance to each of the themed worlds is like walking through a portal to a different universe.
Genius theming and brilliant design fully immerses you.

The incredible queue for Battle at the Ministry
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic
As you rush through the portal to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, you're transported to a picture-perfect Parisian street with cracked cobbles below and towering French architecture.
It's hard to believe you're still in the heart of the Sunshine State.

Potter fans will lose their minds at the new Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry ride.
Entering using Floo Powder in the fireplace just like in the films, you find yourself within the Ministry on the day of Dolores Umbridge's highly anticipated trial.
It was like walking on the actual film sets themselves — incredible.
And that's just the queue! Once on the ride, you'll experience the thrilling trial in its entirety with cutting-edge CGI and animatronics bringing every second of the intense battle to life.

Super Nintendo World feels like a video game come to life
Super Nintendo World
If gaming is more your speed (it definitely is mine), then jumping through the warp pipe to Super Nintendo World will take you to a bright and colourful playground where fun is top of the agenda.
With the much-loved Mario Kart ride melding the game, virtual reality, and traditional indoor rollercoasters, one ride will never be enough, and you'll find yourself wanting to turn back and immediately start queuing again, just like me.

In a first for the USA, Super Nintendo World offers visitors a chance to visit Donkey Kong Country, a vibrant jungle based on the classic SNES games.
Its main ride, Mine-Cart Madness, captures the feel of jumping from track to track on an old mine cart just like those retro levels.
Even Yoshi's Adventure is a perfect beginner coaster for younger children, if you can pull them away from the hidden mini games and interactive elements scattered throughout the world.
Kids (and nostalgic adults) also have the chance to meet iconic Nintendo characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and Donkey Kong as they explore.

Hiccup's Wing gliders proved a fast favourite within the group
How To Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk
How To Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk is a must for fans of the Dreamworks classic. Easily the biggest of the new worlds, it captures the spirit of the series perfectly.
Hiccup's Wing Gliders sees you soaring through the air on a dragon glider, swooping from left to right as the movie's soundtrack fills the air felt utterly whimsical.

The park's only water-based ride, Fire Drill, lets you soak your friends, and was a fantastic, if slightly cruel, way to beat the Florida heat.
The show, The Untrainable Dragon, was a real highlight, with Hiccup and Toothless soaring over us, giving a fantastic view of all the attention to detail paid to bring the franchise to life in the new world.

Dark Universe

Easily my favourite of the new worlds was the spooky Dark Universe.
Based on the classic Universal Monsters, horror fans will be delighted to see throwbacks to sorely missed characters like Frankenstein's Monster, the Bride and the Wolfman.
The detail was, once again, on-point, from the austere gothic architecture to the windmill restaurant that bursts into flames as you dine.
Both Curse of the Wolfman and Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment rides were just the right mix of thrilling and fun, a love letter to the classic movies.

The latter's blend of special effects and unique movement had me giggling with joy on each ride.

The Burning Blade Tavern literally catches fire as you dine

Throughout the parks, dining options were excellent. Isle of Berk's incredible mac and cheese cone and the Dark Universe's Monocane drink in a neon green vial proved to be my personal favourites.
If you're a theme park newbie or someone who just can't get enough of the much-loved original Universal Studios Orlando, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay, there are also free buses every half-hour from Stella Nova resort.

All are well worth a visit, and have a great range of coasters, from the classic Revenge of the Mummy Ride to modern favourites like the adrenaline rush that is Hagrid's Magical Creatures, and the unrelenting thrill-filled Jurassic World Velocicoaster.
And if you want even easier access to the amazing Epic Universe, Loews and Universal have teamed up to create the stunning Universal Grand Helios Hotel which, among other luxuries, boasts its own private entrance to the park.
With rooms themed around worlds like How to Train Your Dragon, it's perfect for families who want to skip the queues or take breaks from the parks throughout the day.
Watching the dazzling fireworks display fill the night sky for the grand opening, it became clear to me that Epic Universe well and truly lives up to its name.

So if you've been looking for an excuse to explore some epic new worlds and have an absolute blast doing so, now is the perfect time.

When she got home, she got started by cleaning off the stairs, before she started attaching the rugs to the steps. After getting them in the perfect position, she used a heavy duty staple gun to attach them onto the stairs. And once she'd finished, the rugs looked like a perfect, professional and expensive stair runner. "Changing the stairs on my private rented property with permission from my landlord," Megan wrote over the top of the video. "Single mum on a budget style!" And she added in the caption: "I love it when a vision comes to life….now I just need to go accessory shopping. "This whole project has cost me around £35 in total. Now that's what you call DIY on a budget!" People in the comments section were quick to praise Megan for the transformation, with one writing: "Well done, looks amazing!" "It looks stunning! 'I was on the X Factor - nothing was real and the judges were actors'

The X Factor has been a staple of British television since it launched in 2004, and now a former contestant has spoken out on what really goes on behind the scenes of the show The X Factor has been on our screens for many years, showcasing fresh talent every year. For many Brits, it's a yearly tradition - that one show we can all get behind when it returns. But one former contestant has now broken his silence, and what he says about the show might just make you see it in a different way. Wagner, who became a wildcard favourite back in 2010, didn't quite make the final - but he still managed to leave his mark until he was booted out of the quarter final. That season saw Matt Cardle crowned as the winner and One Direction launching into stardom. ‌ READ MORE: 'Saviour in a bottle' Elizabeth Arden anti-ageing cream slashed to £44 in deal stack ‌ More than a decade on, Wagner has come forward with bold claims about what really went on behind the scenes and according to him, it wasn't the mentors calling the shots - it was all in the hand of the producers. ''The judges are actors', he claimed. 'It was a reality TV show but nothing is real... Everything is planned in advance and my contact with Louis was just for cameras.' He also went on to reveal his vocal coach felt more of a mentor than his mentor Louis. During his time on the show, critics launched an internet campaign for him to win the show, just as a way to 'p*ss off Simon'. But his journey came to an end, when he was voted out in sixth place after a sing off with Mary Byrne. He went on to say that his vocal coach felt more like a mentor than Louis Walsh and he's not even convinced the judges even picked the songs. 'I'm sure the producers would pick the songs for us,' he said And the critique is allegedly just as scripted. Wagner claimed producers would ask the vocal coaches for feedback and then hand it over to the judges to deliver on air. ‌ 'They would look at the camera, but every now and then they would look away and read the script. Some would look more than others!' he said He also suggested the panel - once made up of Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh - slowly changed into "anyone can be a judge". ‌ 'The script was to make sure the entertainment would keep going because they couldn't rely on the judges to be witty or quick thinking.' At the time, Simon claimed an the attempt to derail the show had failed. 'There were people out there trying to derail this show, we've put this show back in the hands of the public.' But Wagner says otherwise 'It's not democracy, it's showbusiness', he said. 'They knew that they wanted to promote One Direction and everybody else were just extras in the play.' ‌ He claimed that on the day he was sent home, a merchandising staff member told him he'd sold out of his official merchandise and had been leading the vote; however there is no suggestion the votes were rigged. Wagner also revealed that Louis faked interactions between the pair. In every episode, Louis kept mispronouncing his name, saying it like Wag-nah rather than the correct Vawg-ner. ‌ 'It was a joke that Louis agreed with me!" Wagner explained. "He said 'I'm gonna call you Wagner all the time and you're gonna say Louis, my name is Vawg-ner'". He said: 'That was fun and it was Louis' idea. It was smart.' However despite his claims, it is clear The X Factor helped to launch household names like Little Mix, Olly Murs and Alexandra Burke. But over the years, stories emerged about the show's darker side - with some former stars alleging scenes were staged to boost ratings. Despite missing out on the top spot, Wagner made the most of his fame - raking in cash from personalised video messages for fans. 'From the videos I would get £100,000 a year', he said. ‌ But when the money started to dry up, he switched careers - trying his hand at running a hair transplant in Brazil. It wasn't for him, and he eventually returned to the UK to launch his band - Kings with Wings: The Wagner Rock Band - a name inspired by his love of birdwatching. 'I got lots of bookings', he said, 'but I felt so awkward singing She Bangs, because my God, that is a stupid song but people love it.' Now, Wagner is writing his own setlist performing great songs by legends like The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley.

Couple's last day of holiday ruined by cruel 'Scouse stereotype' insults

Catherine Kemp, 57, and her partner Stephen Rice, 56, were enjoying a weekend away in the Lake District when they popped into a pub called the Crafty Baa in Windermere for a drink A Brit couple were left appalled when their tranquil Lake District getaway was marred by a man allegedly hurling abuse and tired stereotypes at them during a pub visit. Catherine Kemp, 57, and her partner Stephen Rice, 56, from West Derby, had been soaking up the atmosphere in the Crafty Baa in Windermere, enjoying the final evening of their holiday, when Stephen, a former singer, decided to join in on an open mic night. ‌ However, their enjoyment was cut short as a Manchester United supporter allegedly began loudly berating Stephen with derogatory comments about Scousers, interrupting his performance. ‌ Catherine managed to capture the unpleasant incident on her phone while recording Stephen's song. She told the Liverpool Echo: "I didn't even know he was getting up and all of a sudden he was singing and then I heard this man shouting. "I was videoing Stephen but then I heard [the man] say 'I hate Scousers.' "He talked about Scousers robbing purses - just the stereotypes of what gives us all a bad name." Catherine expressed her dismay, saying, "It was just not nice when you're enjoying yourself and you're having that in the background. "When I confronted him he said it's not about Liverpool, it's about football - so he changed it from us being robbers to it was about the football." Despite attempting to perform another song after the confrontation, Stephen was too disheartened by the heckling and stopped midway through. ‌ The incident put a damper on the couple's holiday, and they revealed it "took the shine off" their final night in the lakes, leaving soon after. It comes after another British holidaymaker has told how she became "sick to death of looking at rice" after the hotel she stayed at during her picturesque island getaway came with "no English food". Susan Edwards, from Westerhope, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has refused to book with TUI again after paying for an all-inclusive trip to Corfu where she wasn't offered English food. The mum, 69, had jetted off to the Greek island paradise with her two cousins, aged 77 and 78, 50-year-old second cousin and daughter, 30, on a TUI package holiday. But she said the vacation was "horrendous" from the minute they arrived, and that the Brits were left with "no food" they could eat. ‌ Speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle, Susan said the group discovered on the first morning of their stay at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel that there was "no English food" available. The mum, who suffers from ulcerative colitis, lamented the lack of bacon and sausage, saying she and the group were unhappy when they were presented with traditional Greek fare. She said: "On a morning you could have toast, a hard boiled egg, or something in sauce. "There was no bacon. For breakfast there was mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. There was no hot bacon or sausage. We got chips one day. One day out of the whole lot. "There was fish, sardines and rice - I was sick to death of looking at rice. There was pasta and salads, none of this was marked (labelled). One night there was a Greek night and they had kebabs, I couldn't eat that. It's the worst holiday I've ever been on."
