Juve manager Tudor pleased with Vlahovic's impact

TURIN : Juventus manager Igor Tudor applauded Dusan Vlahovic for his commitment after the forward came off the bench to score their second goal in a nervy 2-0 win over Udinese yesterday which could prove crucial in the race for a Champions League spot.
Nico Gonzalez put the hosts ahead just after the hour-mark but the game was still in the balance when Vlahovic was introduced in the 73rd minute.
The 25-year-old, who is coming into the final year of his contract and has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, lifted Juve immediately and made the game safe with their second goal two minutes from time.
Juventus are fourth in Serie A on 67 points, one point ahead of Roma and two ahead of Lazio, with one game remaining in the season.
'Vlahovic had a great impact, played with heart, and proved his value,' said Croatian Tudor, whose contract runs until the end of the season.
'He sacrificed for the team and played a good game.'
Tudor, who took over from Thiago Motta in March and has lost just one of his eight games in charge, said his side had delivered a team performance against strong opposition.
'It was not about motivation but about the playing style, set pieces, preventive markings, and trying to release the pressure that the team felt,' he told reporters.
'It was a serious performance, there wasn't a player I didn't like. It was truly a great game. Udinese are a serious and well-trained team.'
Juve visit relegation battlers Venezia on Sunday, while Roma travel to face mid-table Torino.

Southampton were bottom of the standings at the time and Juric was unable to spark a turnaround, winning two of his 16 games in charge in all competitions, and left in April when the club's relegation was confirmed with seven matches to spare. Juric will aim to restore his reputation after a turbulent season, but faces a tough challenge to replicate Gasperini's achievements, who took Atalanta from relegation battlers to regular European football, winning the Europa League in 2024. Atalanta finished third in Serie A last season, which will give Juric his first taste of Champions League football as a manager, and in the league he will come up against Gasperini who became manager of AS Roma on Friday. Gasperini left Atalanta on Saturday after nine years in charge, and will replace the retired Claudio Ranieri at Roma who finished fifth in the standings last season to qualify for the Europa League, a trophy Gasperini won with his previous club. Ranieri became Roma's third managerial appointment last season when the 73-year-old came out of retirement to return for his third spell in charge at the club where he began his playing career and now has an advisory role. Gasperini announced in February that he would not be signing a new deal at Atalanta, with his contract ending in June and while there was an option to extend it by a year, he decided the time was right to move on. "Gasperini's career is defined by its creative tactics, dedication to hard work, and exceptional player development," a Roma club statement said. "Both ownership and Claudio Ranieri believe Gasperini is the right man for the mission." He helped take Atalanta from Serie A strugglers to regular European football, winning the Europa League in 2024, which was not only the club's maiden European triumph, but Gasperini's first trophy in a long managerial career which began in 2003. Gasperini began his coaching career at Crotone and has also managed Genoa, Inter Milan and Palermo, but made a name for himself at Atalanta, achieving European qualification in his first season after an absence of 26 years for the club. Atalanta led the Serie A standings last season in December and were involved in the title race for a long period before finishing third for the fourth time under Gasperini. Roma won the Conference League in 2022 and were losing finalists in the Europa League the following year and will look to Gasperini to take them back to Champions League football for the first time since 2019.
