Netflix thriller reveals major TV return for 'underrated' Hollywood legend

Metro7 hours ago

Eric Bana has returned to our TV screens after a six-year absence, and he's officially a silver fox.
The 56-year-old Time Traveler's Wife star hasn't starred in a series since 2019's true crime anthology series Dirty John, in which he played titular sociopath John Meehan alongside Connie Britton.
Now, he's reappearing in Netflix's new limited series Untamed, in which he portrays Kyle Turner – a National Parks Service agent who investigates a brutal death in the Yosemite National Park wilderness.
By the same creators as The Revenant, the character-driven six-episode mystery is also co-produced by Eric, who stars alongside Jurassic Park's Sam Neill, La La Land's Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago, and Wilson Bethel.
While Eric hasn't starred in any TV shows for a minute, he's still been busy appearing in various films, including A Sacrifice, Blueback in 2022, and 2020's award-winning adaptation of Jan Harper's book The Dry as well as the follow-up.

He's also voiced a number of animations including Memoir of a Snail alongside Succession's Sarah Snook in 2024, and he appeared as Adam Durwood in podcast series The Orchard.
While Eric's most notable roles since he appeared on the acting scene in the 00s include playing Hoot in Black Hawk Down, Hector in Troy, and as Bruce Banner in Hulk, he started off life in the spotlight as a stand-up and sketch comedian.
The Troy star has previously talked about how he's approached his career in a balanced way since his breakout performance in 2000's Chopper.
In 2005, he was one of a small group of actors alongside his Munich co-star Daniel Craig to be approached to play James Bond, but he never wanted the role.
'I wouldn't have wanted to be James Bond,' he told The Independent in 2022, adding: 'It would have been too much fame for my head.'
Unlike Craig – who played 007 from 2006 to 2021 – Eric said a lack of such huge fame means he's 'largely able to do whatever the hell I want, whenever I want,' he said, adding that not having the freedom to do so 'would have been a great loss'.
When asked by TNT Magazine in 2014 whether he thinks it had harmed his career not moving to Los Angeles- as many Australian actors do – he replied: 'No. And even if it has, it wouldn't make any difference to me.
'I love my life with my wife and kids in Melbourne and that's my home. I don't mind flying to Los Angeles for a few days or weeks at a time to talk to people in Hollywood when I need to.
'I still have to travel to the US or other countries when I'm shooting movies, so it doesn't make any difference anyway. These days you can just go online and have meetings using your computer.'
Eric married publicist Rebecca Gleeson in 1997 two years after they are thought to have first crossed paths and they are still together almost 30 years on.
They share two children – Klaus, 25, and Sophia, 23.
Untamed lands on Netflix on July 17.

EastEnders horror as children are served alcohol - and it will cost legends

A number of EastEnders children are hospitalised after drinking alcohol next week – and one local is to blame. It all kicks off when Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) asks if she can hold a party for partner Patrick's (Rudolph Walker) 85th birthday at The Vic. Things have been slowly spiralling in the wake of landlady Elaine Knight's (Harriet Thorpe) separation from husband George (Colin Salmon), and although it's clear that the event would be too much to manage, she agrees. Her daughter and co-licensee Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) is overwhelmed by the suggestion, and more so when she's left alone to manage proceedings herself. Elaine is enraged to see George step in to help, and lashes out at him, destroying any chance of them reconciling. Across The Square, Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega) has agreed to babysit the younger kids while the adults enjoy the party, and gets permission from Yolande to invite some of his mates over too. She's more than happy for him to have his own gathering – on the condition that there's no trouble. Troubled newbie Joel Marshall (Max Murray) angles for an invite so that he can get closer to Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd), but Denzel asserts that he isn't welcome. Later, Joel's attempts at chatting up his neighbour are brushed to one side and he makes it his mission to get into the Fox-Trueman household. With the bash in full swing, Denzel invites his friends in and sends Raymond, Bert and Ernie upstairs with a movie. Joel arrives armed with some booze and tries to bribe his way in. The lads then stroll across the road to the pub, and with her head in the clouds, Elaine hands both Joel and Denzel to drink a glass of punch each. Unbeknownst to her, they're not satisfied with just one drink, and take jugs of the alcohol from the table and dart home. More Trending Denzel's gathering quickly becomes more lairy, and the teens fail to see Raymond and the twins helping themselves to the punch. After being rushed to the hospital to ensure they're okay, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) chat about how irresponsible Elaine was to allow the two to have a drink. Robert set to become John's next victim in Emmerdale drugging nightmare

From side-stepping the Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) drama to fending off his husband's ex, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is jumping from one fire to another in Emmerdale, and he's only just holding it together. Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) unexpectedly and unceremoniously gate-crashed John and Aaron Dingle's (Danny Miller) wedding, disrupting their vows and giving Aaron pause for thought as to whether to go ahead. Luckily for John, he did, and even more luck came his way when Robert was sent back to prison for breaking his bail conditions. But John's peace was once again disrupted when a letter arrived from the prison containing a visitation request for Aaron. Initially thinking the visit would tempt Aaron away from his new marriage, John hid the letter, but Aaron proved his loyalty once he found it and threw it in the bin. John was daft to think it might end there, as though Aaron chose not to visit his ex, Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) did, and found her brother in such a state it left Aaron feeling awful at refusing to show his face. There's another negative surprise in store for John when not long after, Robert shows up back in the village to make his life a living hell once more. Robert's time back in the village becomes as eventful as the wedding day when he accidentally gives Vic a black eye. Having only just come home, he decides he must move out. He gets himself a trial at the depot but John puts pressure on Caleb (William Ash) to end it, leaving Robert gutted when he finds himself being let go. But a bumbling Jai (Chris Bisson) lets slip that it was John's doing. Robert confronts him, but it only spurs John on further to get this man out of his life. He tries to convince Vic to go to the police and report him for assault, which Robert overhears. He tries to get Aaron onside, but Aaron rejects him. In response to all this negativity, Robert starts drinking and sleeping around but it doesn't have the desired effect on Aaron, who couldn't care less. Robert continues his hookup rampage, finds himself in a vulnerable position when one drugs him. More Trending The danger is worse for Robert than he can imagine, as John sees that he's been drugged and spies the perfect opportunity. He bundles Robert into his van and drives off while making a plan of how to dispose of his unwanted brother. John is seen with a syringe in hand. Is Robert going to die in the murder van? Lena Dunham admits she broke down in tears over performance from 'disrespected' star

EXCLUSIVE Lena Dunham admits she broke down in tears over performance from 'disrespected' star Lena, 39, heaped praise on the star's acting in her upcoming Netflix show She applauded the performance during an appearance at Tribeca Film Festival READ MORE: Lena Dunham admits to 'wrecking herself on male attention' Lena Dunham has publicly lauded Rita Ora's performance in her upcoming Netflix series Too Much – and has called for the singer and actress to get 'more respect' for her on-screen talent. The 39-year-old Girls creator was in conversation with Michelle Buteau at Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday night in New York City where she discussed her triumphant return to television and her sensational cast members. During the intimate talk, Lena gushed over 34-year-old Rita's guest appearance in the new 10-part romantic comedy and described her acting as so 'affecting' that there were 'moments where I teared up.' 'Rita Ora is a really good actor, and I want her to get more respect on her acting name,' Lena declared when asked by Michelle, 47, if she could reveal a spoiler for ahead of the show's release. 'I want Rita Ora to get her flowers.' She continued: 'I mean, we know she's beautiful, but she came in and played this sort of like pseudo version of Rita Ora. There were some moments where I teared up. 'It was extremely affecting. So, we get a little Rita Ora in the season finale and boy does she deliver.' While Rita is arguably better known for her music career, she does have a number of acting roles under her belt. Lena Dunham gushed over Rita Ora's performance in her upcoming Netflix show Too Much Singer and actress Rita guest stars in the 10-part romantic comedy, due for release July 10 In 2015, 2017, and 2018 she appeared in the Fifty Shades films as Mia Grey, the adopted sister of Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey. Rita has also starred in the teen musical fantasy films Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024) and the action thriller Tin Solider, alongside Scott Eastwood, Jamie Foxx, and Robert DeNiro (2025). Over on TV, she has served as a judge on The Voice UK, The X Factor, and The Masked Singer. Helmed by Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe, Too Much follows New Yorker Jessica (Stalter) as she starts a new life in London after a disastrous breakup. There, she finds an impossible-to-ignore connection with Felix (Sharpe). Both in their 30s, the pair grapple with how to form a relationship with the baggage that both bring from their lives and previous romances. Lena co-created Too Much with her husband Luis Felber, whom she wed in September 2021 months after she was set up with him on a blind date. Besides Rita, Megan and Will, the cast also boasts of huge names including Emily Ratajkowski, Richard E. Grant, Adwoa Aboah, Rita Wilson, Stephen Fry, Andrew Scott, Andrew Rannells, and Reha Perlman. And even Lena was blown away by the star power that she managed to gather for the project. 'Rita played this sort of like pseudo version of Rita Ora,' Lena revealed about the singer's guest appearance in the series Lena spoke to Michelle Buteau at Tribeca Festival at Spring Studios on June 14 'I'm still shocked that all these schedules worked, and all these people came together because everyone was in this show was who I wrote the role for and so I'm just pinching myself,' she said. 'That's a rare experience.' Lena explained how she wrote Too Much with all of the cast in mind. 'My goal is always write them a different kind of part than you've seen them do before, or write them something that's so in their wheelhouse that is just going to be so fun to come in and crush it, but no in-between,' she said. 'I'd rather go bold and send them something where they're like "why the f*ck did they send me that?" Then make them feel like they're getting handed the same part that they get to do every time… 'So, with every part I'm thinking, how can I draw something out and make it interesting for you to show up for those days?' 'Rita Ora is a really good actor, and I want her to get more respect on her acting name,' Lena told audiences Earlier this month, Andrew Rannells spilled details of his Too Much role, revealing that he plays Lena's on-screen husband and Megan's boss. Fans will remember how Andrew previously played Elijah Krantz in Lena's acclaimed HBO show Girls, Hannah Horvath's (Dunham) gay ex-boyfriend. Speaking exclusively to on the red carpet at the premiere for I Don't Understand You in New York City, he recalled reuniting with Lena. 'It was very fun to get to make with her,' he gushed. 'We're sort of the grownups now.' 'I play Lena's husband, who is also Meg Stalter's boss,' he continued. 'So, I have like a fun dual role that I get to play. So, Elijah and Hannah have grown up and are now married!' Too Much is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 10.
