Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed issues new law starting January 2026

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued legislation establishing a framework for settling disputes arising from citizen housing building contracts in Dubai.
The law, which takes effect on January 1, 2026, creates an alternative dispute resolution system designed to resolve construction-related conflicts before they reach litigation.

Under the new legislation, Dubai Courts' Centre for Amicable Settlement of Disputes will establish a branch dedicated to handling disputes from citizen home building contract execution, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement.

The resolution process begins with mediation, which must be completed within 20 days.
This period can be extended for another 20 days if both parties consent. Mediators with construction expertise will manage these sessions.
When mediation proves unsuccessful, a committee comprising one judge and two construction specialists will make binding decisions within 30 days. The committee head can extend this period for an additional 30 days if circumstances require.
Parties retain the right to appeal committee decisions to the Court of First Instance, with appeals must be filed within 30 days of the committee's ruling.
The law targets the development of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms while protecting the interests of all contracting parties. The legislation provides dispute resolution pathways that avoid traditional litigation delays.
The framework also promotes continuity in contractual relationships through negotiated settlements. Construction projects can proceed without interruption while disputes undergo resolution, ensuring homes reach completion and delivery according to schedule.
The measure forms part of broader efforts to enhance citizen well-being and maintain social stability through efficient dispute resolution mechanisms that support housing development projects.
The law becomes effective on January 1, 2026.

However, when analysed over their full lifetime and with cleaner grids in place, EVs are without doubt far cleaner than petrol and diesel vehicles. Relying solely on fast public chargers changes the economics. Battery performance: Most brands offer eight-year battery warranties, but performance still depends on climate, driving patterns, and charging habits. After-sales ecosystem: Choosing an EV isn't just about the car. It's about the brand's ability to support you with service, spare parts, and software over the long run. Resale trajectory: Traditional cars have a predictable depreciation path. The EV resale market is still maturing, but momentum is building. Especially for models with strong brand backing and software stability. EVs front-load more of the cost. Combustion vehicles often incur more over time. The difference lies in how you plan to use your car and how long you intend to own it. The switch to EVs also marks a shift in expectations. Drivers are beginning to think in longer cycles. Ownership is less about short-term trade-ins and more about consistent performance, lower operating costs, and technology that evolves with use. That doesn't make EVs the right choice for everyone, but it does explain why more people are moving in that direction, and why the ownership model itself is being redefined. From a customer perspective, we're seeing more first-time EV owners making the switch. Not because of trends, but because they've taken the time to re-evaluate what ownership really means. The economics, the long-term value and the shift in cost dynamics are becoming clearer. When drivers look beyond the sticker price and start factoring in charging, maintenance and long-term efficiency, not to mention doing their bit for the environment, the equation changes. What once felt like a leap now feels like a logical step.

Aljazeera Arabic's Gaza correspondent Anas al-Sharif revealed on Thursday that another journalist has been killed in an Israeli air strike on his family's tent in Gaza City. Adam Abu Harbeid was a cameraman for the broadcaster al-Quds al-Youm. Several members of Abu Harbeid's family were critically injured, Sharif said. "He accompanied me on much news coverage and was an example of politeness, humility, and respect," Sharif wrote on X, sharing a photograph of the two of them at work. "May God have mercy on you, our beloved Adam, and grant you Paradise," he added. A photograph shared by Aljazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif on X shows him at work alongside al-Quds al-Youm cameraman Adam Abu Harbeid, who was killed in an Israeli strike on 24 July 2025.

Gaza's government media office said in the early hours of Friday morning, local time, that the number of journalists killed by Israel in the enclave since 7 October 2023 has risen to 232. The latest casualty is al-Quds al-Youm cameraman Adam Abu Harbeid, who was killed in an Israeli air strike on his family's tent in Gaza City on Thursday. "We call for the condemnation of these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media professionals in the Gaza Strip," the media office said in a statement. "We call on the international community and international organizations in all countries of the world to condemn the enemy's crimes and prosecute it in international courts."
