Pak rowing team bags 10 gold in Asian event

In an absolutely amazing performance that marks a new era for rowing in Pakistan, the national indoor rowing team secured a remarkable 14 medals including 10 gold at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship held in Pattaya, Thailand.
Competing against 25 countries, the underdog Pakistani squad stunned traditional powerhouses such as India, Iran, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan, proudly raising the national flag and making the national anthem echo across the international arena. Despite being a small contingent, the Pakistani rowers delivered an outstanding performance that defied expectations.
The Pakistan Rowing Federation, along with other sports stakeholders, gave the athletes a grand welcome upon their return. They also appealed to the federal government, the Pakistan Sports Board, and the Punjab Sports Board to organize a ceremony in the team's honor and reward the athletes with cash prizes as a gesture of appreciation.
President of the Pakistan Rowing Federation, Hamdan Nazir, and Chairman Rizwan-ul-Haq praised the players' exceptional performance, stating that Pakistan's rowing athletes are now ready to compete - and succeed - at the global level. They urged both the federal and Punjab governments to extend full support and patronage to the sport of rowing.

The friendly cricket match between the Consul General and the students ended with the Green Team successfully achieving a target of 5 wickets.

PHOTO: PPI In a unique celebration of Pakistan's Independence Day and Maarka-e-Haq, the Sindh Government's Sports Department organised a donkey cart race from Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Clifton to Frere Hall. The event drew enthusiastic participation, with over 50 donkey carts competing in the spirited race. Nadeem clinched first place, followed by Rizwan in second and Khalid Ismail in third. The winners received cash prizes of Rs75,000, Rs50,000, and Rs25,000 respectively, along with trophies to honour their achievement. Besides the top three, everyone was a winner. All participants were also awarded cash prizes and commemorative trophies, adding to the festive atmosphere. The closing ceremony was held at Frere Hall, where Parliamentary Secretary Saima Agha served as the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Additional Secretary for Sports, Asad Ishaq, along with other officials, also attended the event. The donkey cart race, blending tradition with celebration, attracted attention from locals and passersby, turning the streets into a lively track of cheers and excitement.
