SUNNING yourself on a beautiful beach doesn't always have to involve long-haul flights and weeks away from home.
In fact, there are some beautiful beach towns, some only two hours from the UK, that have golden sand, clear blue water and affordable accommodation, with some deals less than £450 for a family of four, for a week.
For as little as £39 a night, these lush locations across Spain, Portugal and France offer a fuss-free family trip, going from school to the seaside in less than three hours.
Armaçao da Pera, Algarve, Portugal
7
A lesser-known spot on Portugal's Algarve coast, former fishing village Armaçao da Peras is a treasure trove of golden beaches and crystal clear water, dotted with secret coves.
This up-and-coming holiday resort is surrounded by cobbled streets and historical landmarks.
A wander through the old market, stacked with hand-weaved baskets and local crafts, and you'll feel like you've discovered a completely new place.
But, in reality it is only 20 minutes to the water parks, theme parks and wild nightlife of Albufeira - so it's ideal for families.
Book a four-star, seven-night stay with loveholidays from £269pp, which is only £39-per-day.

This Balearic bolthole is on Majorca's sun-soaked southern coast and is perfect for those who want an active break.
Sitting on six kilometres of soft sandy beach and with water sports such as windsurfing and water-skiing on offer, El Arenal rivals neighbouring lively resort Magaluf - and, dare we say it, is even a bit nicer.
Boasting authentic Spanish restaurants and bars, as well as a brilliant beach, this top stop is only a 2 hour 25 minute flight and there are some brilliant bargains to be had.
A beer at Scottish-owned bar, Bogarts, is only £2 - so that's a great place to start.

There's no shortage of charming coastal towns but Porto-Vecchio also boasts white sandy beaches, in particular Plage de Palombaggia & Plage de Saleccia, which are perfect swimming spots.
If you don't want to feast on bargain bottles of wine and scoff giant gelato cones for £2 in the citadel, you can hop on a boat to the Lavezzi islands or hike in the shade through the Ospedale forest.
Book with loveholidays for flights plus a range of self-catering options from £50 a night.
Salou, Spain
7
An easy 2hr 20 minute flight will take you into Barcelona Reus airport, but instead of heading to the stylish, Spanish city, go south to Salou.
This sweet spot has all the Catalan charm of Barcelona, but with a stunning beach and promenade that has beach cafes serving £2 Cava and fresh tapas starting from £3 a plate.
Book with holiday hypermarket for a Tui package including a hotel right on the beach, breakfast, and flights with all baggage and transfers for only £507pp for seven days.
Menorca, Spain
7
Just 2 hours and 25 minutes from the UK, you'll be spoilt for choice on the Balearic island of Menorca, with beautiful villages, coves, hidden beaches and fantastic food.
Nightlife here is island-style, with little beach huts nestled into the cliffs and open-air restaurants serving freshly caught seafood for a fraction of the price you'd get in London, or even Spain's bigger beach destinations.
Book an apartment with holidayhypermarket for £471 per person for seven nights and have the option to make your own picnic to take to the beach.

If you prefer to be on dry land, the medieval town is beautiful, with lots of Spanish history and shady, cobbled streets. There are more than enough tapas counters, restaurants and bars to keep the party going until the early hours.
Flying to Palma, you can be there in two hours, 30 minutes, and you are ideally located if you want to explore further afield too.
Book seven nights, four-star self-catering with travelsupermarket for £316 per person.

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright given warning from celebrity pal Olly Murs after they welcomed daughter Palma as he shares parenting advice

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright were given warning from their celebrity pal Olly Murs after they welcomed daughter Palma. TV personality Mark and his wife, welcomed their baby daughter Palma, five months ago, while Olly and his wife Amelia share 16-month-old Madison. Sharing some parenting advice in a new interview on Saturday, the singer, 41, revealed what he told Mark after he became a parent. Speaking to The Mirror, Olly said: 'I've been saying, 'Enjoy your trip to Majorca, because, trust me, when Palma is crawling or walking in a few months, that's a whole other level.' 'I also warned him about the weaning stage. You think they're choking and your wife's like, 'It's fine – she's just got to learn how to use her mouth.' What's it called? The gag reflex. I'm like, 'Babe, I can't. I'm off to sit in the other room.'' Olly also shared his hopes that their children will grow up as friends and added: 'Wrighty and I have already spoken about going on holiday and just being together, which will be fun. We've got such a good friendship, and I really want Michelle and Amelia to meet properly. I'm sure they'll have loads in common.' Mark recently gave a rare insight into family life as he discussed his recent holiday to Palma, Majorca with his daughter. As he hosted Heart Saturday Breakfast alongside Olly last weekend, the duo caught up. When Olly asked Mark how his holiday to Palma was, he admitted: Something disappointed me when we first got there, though. 'Well, obviously Palma is spelled like Palma. Like Palma, the place in Majorca, the city where you land. 'And I was always like, whenever you land in another country and you go through passport control, they're never happy. 'They never look at them smiley, it's just 'gracias", and just walk off. And I was like, surely they're going to read Palma's passport and be like, a little smile or something. 'Michelle's like, well, make sure you give that, like, her Palma's passport first and like, hold it in front of them. I do, I gave it. He just looked down at his stamps and went on, "you go." Mark continued: 'Palma went to Palma for the first ever time we did a picture in front of the Palma signs. So it was, it was a beautiful week. I ate and drank a little bit too. 'You know, I also realised as well. When I used to go on holiday on my dad and he used to have a beer at like, 12 o'clock in the afternoon, I used to think, how could you want that? Like, maybe at nighttime when you go to the bar. What was I doing… 'Everyday midday beer. I was like, I'm literally turning into my dad.' Speaking about Palma, he revealed: 'She's like her mum. She sleeps a lot! So we get away with, you know, tantrums on the plane, because we just give her a nap time, then she sleeps the whole flight.'

Terrifying moment FIRENANDO is whipped up in deadly Portugal fires as mayor killed in inferno

THIS is the horrifying moment a fire tornado violently erupts in Portugal killing a mayor in its blaze. It comes as hundreds of dangerous and deadly wildfires have plagued Europe in recent weeks with dozens of holiday hotspots left ravaged. 9 9 Portugal's northern region of Aguiar de Beira was left singed on Friday as a fire tornado cascaded through the area. This rare phenomenon is formed in intense heat when the air surrounding a fire begins to rotate into a vortex. Terrifying footage shows the blaze powerfully spinning, sending bursts of fire flying. Black smoke is seen filling the air as the sky shines a fluorescent orange from the gargantuan flames. The video also captures stretches of land singed by the fire as locals run frantically to take cover. Almost 4,000 firefighters have been deployed across different areas in the country with the government extending its high risk alert until Sunday. Meanwhile, Carlos Dâmaso, a former mayor of the town of Vila Franca do Deão, tragically died while helping to fight a blaze. His body was recovered on Friday. Brits have been put on high alert over wildfires tearing through the popular holiday island of Tenerife in Spain. Just a couple weeks ago, a fire sparked in the north and continued to spread towards busy resorts in Santiago del Teide. Huge wildfires spread across Brit tourist hotspots with hotels evacuated 'by the minute' as holidaymakers flee resorts Locals were ordered to evacuate the area and the island was put on red alert for the high risk of forest fires. Initial reports indicated that the fire was located in the area known as Partidos de Franquis - a rural site near San José de Los Llanos in El Tanque. A major operation was launched to control the fire, both by land and air, with police, firefighters, island government teams, the Civil Guard, helicopters and water-spraying planes all involved. 9 9 9 Four Spanish planes joined more than 250 Portuguese firefighters battling a mountain blaze in Viana do Castelo district on the Portuguese-Spanish border. DEADLY FIRES The most deadly of the European fires have come from Turkey. At least 17 people have been killed in the apocalyptic wildfires as record-breaking 50C heat and howling winds fuel devastation across the eastern Mediterranean. The infernos have forced more than 3,500 residents to flee their homes, with vast swathes of forest reduced to ash. Ten rescue volunteers and forestry workers lost their lives in a blaze in Eskisehir last week, while four more died outside Bursa over the weekend. Two volunteer firefighters succumbed to injuries after being pulled from an overturned water tanker. Another worker died at the scene and a firefighter suffered a fatal heart attack on Sunday. Turkey's forestry minister Ibrahim Yumakli confirmed that crews battled at least 44 separate fires on Sunday alone, declaring the western provinces of Izmir and Bilecik disaster areas. Firefighters have battled more than 600 blazes in the past week, with over 1,900 emergency responders drafted in to help save trapped residents. According to forecasts, the temperatures will remain fiery this week with 45C to 50C heat expected in southeast Turkey. 9 9 9

‘The stone is like a sign pointing the way for pilgrims': Adelino Marques's best phone picture

Adelino Marques was taking a morning walk on the coast near his holiday home in Moledo, north-west Portugal, when he took this image. 'It's the northernmost beach in Portugal and is considered one of the most beautiful in the country,' Marques says. 'It also has two unique features: a fort in the middle of the sea, which served as a defence against various attacks over the centuries and is now a national monument, and the hill you can see in the background of this image, Monte de Santa Tecla. It's in the neighbouring country of Spain, but is nevertheless an icon of this beach.' In the foreground of the image is a rock that echoes the shape of the hill, with a stone 'placed atop in a way that would seem impossible. Pilgrims pass through this area every day to walk to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, a pilgrimage that covers around 500 miles [805km] and takes about a month to complete. The stone is like a sign, like a small mound pointing as if to say 'That way'.' Marques says that, since the 1970s, he has developed his own film negatives in a darkroom at his home in Gondomar, just outside central Porto. He thinks this has given him a preference for black-and-white images, no matter how they're created. In this instance, he used the Hipstamatic app on his iPhone to apply a monochrome filter. 'It allows me to better contrast the light and shapes,' Marques says. 'Colour can be distracting. This filter helped to convey the serenity and resilience of the pilgrims who pass this way.'
