‘That's Actually an Upgrade From Factory:' Toyota Tech Works on RAV4. Then He Tries Twisting the Sway Bar Links
Creator and automotive repair technician Zoe Zpectrum (@zoezpectrum) takes us underneath the RAV4 to share his disbelief at the massive suspension upgrade in a clip that's been viewed more than 486,000 times.
'I can't even twist them. … They like military grade,' he says.
Sway bar links, also known as end links or stabilizer bar links, attach the sway bar—or anti-roll bar—to a vehicle's suspension components. The
sway bar itself
is a torsion spring stretching across your car's underside, connecting opposite wheels to
counter body roll
during turns. When a vehicle corners, the sway bar twists, redistributing force from one side to the other and helping to keep the cabin level and controlled. The links transmit that twisting force by bridging the gap between the bar and control arms or struts.
Now, enter the aftermarket world. These
beefed-up versions
boast stronger shafts, tougher bushings, and corrosion-resistant coatings. These are key upgrades for vehicles tackling rough terrain, lifted setups, or high-performance handling conditions. Where factory links are designed for standard daily drives, these are built for abuse.
The Fun of 'Overkill' Mods
There's good reason to question just how much sway bar beef a RAV4 really needs. Most of these SUVs aren't seeing rock crawls or Baja rallies. But the spectacle lies in that absurd contrast—suburban sleigh meets tactical tank parts. And on social platforms like TikTok, nothing ignites engagement faster than that 'wait, what?' moment when a routine oil change turns into a jaw-dropping underbody inspection.
The sway bar links seen in the video are likely aftermarket heavy-duty units designed for lifted or off-road-ready vehicles. A set of performance or adjustable sway bar links
typically costs
anywhere from:
$100–$300 for a quality set of links (e.g., from brands like Whiteline, Moog HD, SuperPro, or JBA Offroad).
$50–$200+ for professional installation, depending on labor rates and local shop pricing.
If the owner upgraded the sway bars
and
the links (common in performance setups), the full sway bar system upgrade could
push costs
to $500–$1,000+, depending on the brand, vehicle fitment, and whether front and rear bars are replaced.
And if the RAV4 is lifted, which would explain the need for longer, beefier links, it's possible we're looking at a more involved
suspension mod
that includes:
Lift kit: $1,000–$2,500.
Alignment and recalibration: $150–$300.
So, while the links themselves aren't a bank-breaker, they're often just one part of a larger build.
Could These Mods Backfire?
For the gearheads who want more than flash, a serious question looms: Can overbuilt sway bar links actually
hurt handling
?
The short answer is yes. Swapping in stiffer or longer links without adjusting the rest of the suspension can
throw off
the car's balance. Improperly sized aftermarket sway bars and linkages can induce extreme oversteer or understeer and degrade the car's handling. Over-stiff sway bars may compromise independent wheel movement, roughening ride quality on uneven roads and reducing grip.

New Infiniti Q50 To Get Nissan Z's 400-Hp Engine, 6-Speed Stick Shift
If you thought the Infiniti Q50 was axed, think again. After discontinuing sales of the Q50 sedan last year, Infiniti is making a quicker comeback to the US sedan market than expected. At Nissan's national dealer gathering in Las Vegas on August 20, the brand gave media a sneak peek at a car dubbed the Q50S. Originally, Nissan's luxury brand planned to replace the Q50 with an electric sedan by the end of the decade. But that strategy has been shelved due to waning EV demand and a reduction in government assistance for EVs. In the second half of 2027, we will now see Infiniti unexpectedly introduce a second-generation gasoline-powered Q50. And it will employ the cream from Nissan's parts bin. 'Unexpected' is a poignant way to describe news of the EV-out, ICE-in strategy. Photos shown to dealers behind closed doors revealed the new so-called Q50S that will land in showrooms in a revised 'low-slung, swoop profile with slender headlights and Skyline-like circular tail lights. The new Q50S will get a Z-based 450-hp engine and 6-speed manual Two Nissan legends serve as inspiration for the resurrected Q50—it's built on the same platform as the Skyline sedan sold in Japan and powered by a returned version of the Z sports car's highly rated 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. But according to Automotive News, Infiniti wants to up the ante and boost power from the current 400-hp to 450-hp. And when you marry that with the option of a 6-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive, then you have something quite special, rivaling sports sedans out of Europe and for a lot less money. Infiniti urgently needs new models after it lost half of its U.S. range by dropping two compact crossovers built in Mexico in reaction to import duties imposed by President Trump. Next year, the carmaker will launch the QX65, a two-row coupe-like vehicle, along with performance and off-road versions of the QX80 SUV. Vinay Shahani, the head of sales and marketing for Nissan in the United States, stated, 'We simply haven't had the product. And now we're bringing the product to the table.' In a video, Infiniti teased the low-slung vehicle, revealing a swoopy profile, slim headlights, and circular taillights reminiscent of the Skyline. Infiniti's car is "extremely important, especially for bringing younger buyers back to the brand," Shahani underlined. He emphasized how well-liked entry-level sedans like the Mercedes C-Class, Lexus IS 500 F Sport, and BMW 3 Series are among luxury-minded aficionados.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee Returns as a 37 MPG Hybrid starting at $37,000
The latest car news, reviews, and features. The Jeep Cherokee has led a long, meandering, and (more than once) interrupted life. From enthusiast darling to on-again/off-again volume crossover, its life has also been complicated. After a few years in 'off-again' mode, the Cherokee is returning for 2026, where it will slot into a growing Jeep lineup that just recently added the battery-electric Wagoneer S and will soon gain the off-roady Recon, along with returning and new Hemi-powered variants of some existing models. After years of price creep and increasing exclusivity, Jeep is doing its best to pivot back to the people. And what do people want right now? Put simply, hybrids. In case you hadn't noticed, rugged midsize SUVs are kind of hot right now. Don't believe me? Check your favorite manufacturer. If it hasn't already added one to the lineup, chances are it will be along shortly. Nope, nothing's sacred anymore. But Cherokee? The Cherokee helped create this space. And what's the saying? 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder,' right? You'd be forgiven for finding the last-gen Cherokee somewhat uninspiring. It lacked previous incarnations' squared-off shoulders and rough-around-the-edges finish. Both were still present when Jeep renamed it the Liberty, but in exchange, you got a chassis cast from powdered rust and half-hearted prayers. At launch, the Cherokee will ship in just one configuration: an all-wheel-drive hybrid. The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine is paired with an electric motor and a 1.08-kWh NCM-Graphite battery. Nope, no plug. Total power output is rated at 210 horses and 230 lb-ft of torque. Power gets to all four wheels via a CVT and Jeep's 'Active Drive I' 4×4 system, which includes a simple single-speed transfer case and automatic torque apportionment. We're told it'll return a very un-Jeep-like 37 mpg combined. The 2026 Cherokee will start at $36,995 (including a $1,995 destination charge)—or at least it will eventually . Jeep is launching with the Limited and Overland ($42,495 and $45,995, respectively) this fall, and will introduce the base and Laredo ($39,995) models in early 2026. As for the fun stuff? Stay tuned. There's a Trailhawk coming. Got a tip? Let us know at tip@
