Iraq to use artificial intelligence to develop energy infrastructure
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq continues to boost its energy infrastructure through deals with multinational corporations as part of the government's efforts to develop the energy sector's capabilities, which will later provide significant returns supporting the country's economy.
Baghdad inked a deal on Wednesday with the top Emirati investment organization, Ziad Khalaf Holding Group, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Iraq intends to strengthen and grow its energy industry through the deal inked between the holding group and Esyasoft, a subsidiary of the International Holding Company (IHC) that specializes in smart technologies and energy driven by artificial intelligence.
The agreement aims to enhance the energy sector's infrastructure by exploring partnership opportunities in innovative and sustainable projects.
The group's chairman, Ziad Khalaf, described the new agreement as an essential strategic move toward developing the energy industry, notably in Baghdad, through the group's sister firms.
Khalaf reaffirmed his company's commitment to helping Iraq achieve its goal of becoming a more sustainable and innovative economy.
Khalaf noted that Baghdad is steadily progressing toward comprehensive economic growth and increasing its capacities to the point where it can attract more foreign investment and contribute to a brighter future.
The new partnership aims to combine the group's expertise with Esyasoft's advanced technology to improve Iraq's energy infrastructure.
The agreement also intends to improve technical capabilities and promote long-term economic growth by attracting investment and creating new employment opportunities. It will also create the groundwork for transforming the country's energy infrastructure through new solar energy solutions.
The deal also involves the development of smart grid and energy storage solutions based on artificial intelligence and innovative technologies to accelerate the country's sustainable energy transformation, accelerating economic development and transforming Baghdad into a major sustainable energy hub.

Last month, Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals Khalid Battal Al-Najm laid the foundation stone for new integrated phosphate fertilizer facilities in the western Iraqi province of Anbar. The move signals the rebirth of Iraq's most significant industrial institutions after years of stagnation and destruction caused by terrorism.

Iraq declares self-sufficiency in wheat
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Minister of Trade, Atheer Al-Ghurairy, revealed on Saturday that Iraq achieved self-sufficiency in wheat crops. Al-Ghurairy's remarks took place during his field visit to the western Iraqi province of Anbar to check the purchase procedure from farmers, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). A report by Reuters issued in October indicated that the Iraqi government is losing about $500 million as a result of a bountiful wheat crop and a massive grain surplus in the country, which is one of the major wheat importers in the Middle East. The surplus in Iraq's wheat crop, which reached 1.5 million tons, is a result of better rainfall than anticipated and, more importantly, government funding, according to the report. To stimulate the production of the essential grain amid often dry circumstances, the government gives farmers more than double the price on the global market. The director of Iraq's General Company for Grain Trade, Haider Nouri, revealed earlier that Iraq's strategic reserves of wheat surpassed 5.5 million tons. Nouri explained that this large stock of wheat is sufficient for one year to meet local demand, underscoring that flour prices will not rise with any global crisis. Iraq was self-sufficient in wheat for three years before the conflict in Ukraine, producing 4.7 million tons in 2019, 6.2 million tons in 2020, and around 4.2 million tons in 2021. However, water shortages and desertification reduced local wheat output, requiring the Iraqi government to import wheat to offset the gap.

Iraq to launch new strategy to eliminate poverty
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Ministry of Planning revealed on Wednesday that it is working on a strategy to reduce poverty in the country. The spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, told Shafaq News that a five-year plan is being prepared to help the people in need and most vulnerable members of society through different approaches, including health, education, housing, services, income, and food security. The government's approach also involves mitigating the effects of climate change, including drought, desertification, and the waves of migration that accompany these phenomena, according to Al-Hindawi. The Iraqi official added that the government's new approach will involve the ministries of health, education, higher education, labor and social affairs, construction and housing, local governments, and the private sector. The Planning Ministry has finalized the final draft of the strategy, and a public statement will be made after the necessary administrative procedures are completed, according to Al-Hindawi. In February, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning revealed the results of a socioeconomic study of families in the country, performed in collaboration with the Kurdistan region of Iraq, which found that the poverty rate had dropped to 17.5 percent compared to 20.05 percent in 2018.
