Punjab CM urges youths to serve, respect, and obey their parents
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has paid glowing tribute to the unconditional love, sacrifices, and unwavering support of parents, calling them 'a cool shade in the harsh sunlight of life.'
In her message on Global Day for Parents, the CM described parental love as the most valuable asset in her life, saying, 'The selfless love of parents is a blessing that shapes our character and supports us through every phase of life. Their obedience is not just a moral obligation but a command from Allah Almighty, a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and a cornerstone of our Eastern cultural values.'
Highlighting the irreplaceable role of parents in a child's life, the CM said that a home without parents is just a structure of bricks, but their presence transforms even the simplest space into a paradise. Parents are the foundation of every success in their children's lives.
Reflecting on her own journey, she added, 'Whatever I have achieved today is the result of the prayers, guidance, and upbringing of my loving parents. I consider it an honour to serve and obey them.'
CM Maryam Nawaz urged the public to uphold the values of respect, care, and obedience toward parents, and to treat their service as a sacred responsibility. She stressed that nurturing strong family bonds is essential for a compassionate and balanced society. 'May Allah Almighty keep the shadow of parents intact over all children' she prayed.
The CM honoured the children who lost their parents in service to the nation. 'Let us also remember those whose parents sacrificed their lives for the security and sovereignty of Pakistan. I pay tribute to the brave parents whose children embraced martyrdom while defending our beloved homeland.' She encouraged people to cherish and care for their parents not only on this special day but every day, recognizing them as an unmatched blessing and a guiding force in life.

CM urges public support for plastic-free Punjab
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has appealed to the citizens to extend their complete cooperation in launching the Plastic and Pollution-Free Punjab campaign on the World Environment Day. The aim of the campaign is to inform and impart awareness to the general public regarding the use of life-threatening plastic. Students will be encouraged to use cloth bags and paper products as alternatives to plastic. Tree plantation activities were also organised to celebrate the World Environment Day. In a message, the chief minister urged the youth to become an environment-friendly force. "The Zero Plastic Campaign is not just a one-day event, but we need to make it a part of our daily routine," she added. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that Punjab's first climate policy, vision and action plan had been implemented. An environmental endowment fund worth Rs15 billion has been established for start-ups and businesses. The province has also launched Pakistan's first Environmental Protection Force. Mentioning the steps taken for environmental improvement in the past year, she said a plastic management cell had been established, which was ensuring a ban on single-use plastic. Online registration of plastic manufacturers and sellers has been started. Millions of vehicles have been registered through emission testing certification. The CM said 50 air quality monitoring stations have been installed across the province and thousands of youth are actively working in cities and villages under the Climate Leadership and Development Internship Programme to create awareness about pollution. A GIS squad has been established to ensure environmental protection with the help of artificial intelligence. She said four fuel testing labs have been established to check the quality of petrol to prevent smog. Sprinkler systems are being installed at under-construction buildings to prevent dust. In addition, 15 water quality monitoring stations are being established to monitor rivers and rainwater drains. Environmental benefits are also being achieved through recycling and e-bikes.

‘Pakistan renews its focus on Kashmir issue'
ISLAMABAD: Amid rising tensions with India, Pakistan has renewed its focus on the Kashmir issue, combining diplomatic efforts with a strong defence posture. Chairman of the Kashmir Committee, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, said recent developments are crucial for Pakistan in both protecting its borders and highlighting the Kashmir dispute on the international stage. Speaking at a press conference, Noon praised the swift and professional response of Pakistan's armed forces to Indian aggression on May 10, calling it a 'rebirth for Pakistan' that signals the beginning of a new, more assertive era. He hailed the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Air Chief Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, and Naval Chief Naveed Ashraf, noting that Pakistan's military actions garnered international recognition and surprised many who underestimated Eastern military capabilities. Noon stressed that Pakistan's position is not merely reactionary but principled, rooted in its commitment to global peace and in line with international law. He reiterated that the Kashmir conflict is not a bilateral issue between Pakistan and India but a global concern, echoing United Nations Security Council resolutions that affirm Kashmiris' right to self-determination. The Kashmir Committee has recently intensified its international outreach. A delegation visited the United Kingdom to engage with British lawmakers, members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora, and even Congressional representatives, drawing attention to Indian state-sponsored terrorism and human rights violations in the region. The timing of the visit, Noon said, was crucial in countering India's propaganda and highlighting the plight of Kashmiris to the world. He also pointed to growing morale among overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris, as well as rising international respect for Pakistani diplomatic efforts, even symbolized by improved treatment of Pakistani passport holders at global airports. Noon criticized India's ongoing demographic changes in Jammu and Kashmir, terming them a direct violation of international norms. He drew a sharp parallel between Indian atrocities in Kashmir and Israel's actions in Gaza, calling both examples of systemic oppression and occupation. Referring to India's attempt to unilaterally alter the Indus Waters Treaty, Noon reminded the world that this treaty is a globally recognized agreement backed by the World Bank and cannot be revoked unilaterally. He also highlighted the underreported tragedy of the Jafer Express bombing—arguably more severe than the Pulwama incident—lamenting that Pakistan's sacrifices in the war against terrorism have not been adequately conveyed internationally. He also welcomed former US President Donald Trump's past offer for mediation, reiterating that Pakistan remains open to dialogue—but not at the cost of compromising its sovereignty or the rights of the Kashmiri people. Noon concluded by asserting that while governments may change, Pakistan's commitment to the Kashmir cause remains unwavering. 'This is not a matter of politics,' he said.
