Harry Potter stars now - from exciting baby news to sad addiction struggles
As Harry Potter fans delight over Rupert Grint's surprise baby news, the Mirror takes a closer look at what members of the original cast have been up since leaving Hogwarts
For a generation of children, the Harry Potter series introduced them to a world of magic unlike anything seen before. And for those who populated the enchanted world that captured the imaginations of so many, their lives were never the same again.
It's been 24 years since the first instalment, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, brought JK Rowling's wildly popular book series to life, with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson perfectly cast as the heroic trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Seven subsequent films followed, growing darker in tone as the characters matured and faced increasingly malevolent threats. Each return to Hogwarts brought plenty of adventures, unexpected twists and, naturally, cauldrons full of magic.
When the final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, aired in 2011, emotions ran high as the central characters waved off their own children at Platform 9 3/4s. All these years on, and with a new TV adaptation on the way, there is still so much affection for the original stars, and it was therefore unsurprising that Rupert's recent baby news was met with such genuine joy and excitement.
Here, the Mirror takes a look at what the cast got up to next after defeating Lord Voldemort.
Daniel Radcliffe
Since Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has gone on to play some major roles. From The Woman in Black (2012) and Imperium (2016), to The Lost City (2022), the actor has continued to enjoy great success following the wizarding world.
Although he's branched out into some diverse projects, the London-born actor will perhaps always be best known for the series that made him a household name - and being so instantly recognisable hasn't always been easy.
During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022, Daniel, who has now made a life for himself in New York, joked: "They've just opened a massive Harry Potter store in New York, and I'll walk past there and suddenly get there like, 'Oh no, I'm here, I have to not be here very quickly, I have to run before somebody sees me!'"
According to IMDB, Daniel is next set to star in Now You See Me 3, which will air in November of this year. But his most important role is that of dad. In April 2023, he became a father for the first time with partner Erin Darke.
Opening up to E! News in June 2024, Daniel, now 35, described becoming a dad as "the best". He shared: "I cry a lot more, in like a nice way. And yeah, it's just the best thing that ever has happened to me."
Rupert Grint
Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint is now known largely for his accomplished TV roles. Of particular note is his portrayal of Julian Pearce in the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ psychological horror series Servant, which ran from 2019 to 2023
You can also find Rupert on the TV series Snatch and Sick Note on Netflix, Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders on Amazon Prime Video, and spooky Netflix anthology series Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities.
In 2023, he returned to film after an eight-year absence in M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin. Rupert is also a dad-of-two, welcoming a baby girl a couple of years ago with partner Georgia Groome, who is famous for her role in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
Rupert, now 36, recently surprised fans by announcing the birth of his and Georgia's second daughter, a little girl named Goldie. Sharing a sweet picture of the newborn on Instagram, Rupert praised childbirth expert Dr. Alex Digesu, who appears to be responsible for the baby's safe delivery.
The proud dad wrote: "'Secret Child Slightly Revealed'. Introducing Goldie G. Grint. A 10/10 baby (so far). Shout out to @alex.digesu for always delivering."
Emma Watson
Emma Watson, who famously played Hermione Granger, continued to make waves in Hollywood once Harry Potter came to an end. She starred in Perks of Being a Wallflower, the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and featured in the 2019 adaption of Little Women.
On top of her acting accolades, Emma graduated from Brown University with a bachelor's degree in English literature. She is also an advocate for gender equality as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.
Much like her most famous character, hardworking Emma, now 35, has a passion for learning. In 2023, she enrolled on a master's course in creative writing at Oxford University, and is now said to be working towards a DPhil - Oxford's version of a PhD.
It's understood Emma has taken to life among the famous spires. Back in February, a source from the prestigious university told the Mail Online: "She mingles among other students, and blends into the background. But she does attend social events and is often spotted with her books and her boyfriend at local coffee shops.
"She started last year – she loves Oxford and has made a happy life for herself there."
Alfred Enoch
In the Harry Potter films, Alfred Enoch played Dean Thomas, a Hogwarts student and a member of the Gryffindor House. He has gone on to have a very successful career.
In 2014, Alfred starred in the hit TV series How to Get Away With Murder. He played one of the main characters alongside Viola Davis and starred in 50 episodes. More recently, the 36-year-old played the male protagonist in the adaptation of The Couple Next Door.
Aside from films, Alfred is also an accomplished Shakespearean actor. Last year, in his RSC debut, the thespian played the lead in Pericles at The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, which ran up until October.
He's also previously starred as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, in a 2021 production at Shakespeare's Globe, and as Orlando in As You Like It.
Tom Felton
Tom Felton played Harry's nemesis Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, and starred in all eight films. Since then, he has taken on roles in several indie films, including The Forgotten Battle, Braking for Whales and Save the Cinema.
According to IMDB, Tom is also set to feature in Gandhi, Altered, and Canyon Del Muerto, which are all said to be in production.
In May 2022, Tom, now 37, made his West End theatre debut in the hit play 2:22 A Ghost Story. That same year, he published a memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, which offered an insight into life growing up in one of the most famous franchises in cinematic history.
In his memoir, Tom opened up about his difficulties with addiction and rehab, crediting one of his former co-stars for helping him come forward with such honesty. He wrote: "I was encouraged by a few people, Emma Watson specifically, to tell the whole story and not just sort of cherry-pick the fluffy bits."
Dame Maggie Smith
British icon Dame Maggie Smith starred as Professor McGonagall in the hit franchise. But she was already incredibly famous before joining the cast. From 2010, Oscar winner Maggie played the iconic Dowager Countess Violet Grantham in Downton Abbey, in what would be one of the most memorable roles of her distinguished career.
The series ran for six years, with Violet making her last poignant appearance in the 2019 sequel film, A New Era. On top of that, the beloved actress also starred in The Lady in the Van, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and A Boy Called Christmas.
Sadly, Dame Maggie passed away in September 2024 at the age of 89. In a statement issued via their publicist, her family said: "It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September.
"An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days."
Harry Melling
Harry Melling is famous for playing Dudley Dursley, Harry Potter's particularly unpleasant cousin. And after leaving the magical world behind, he, has continued to work on screen.
The now 36-year-old, who studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, has appeared in several Netflix series, including The Old Guard, The Devil All the Time, The Pale Blue Eye, and most notably The Queen's Gambit.
Fiona Shaw
Fiona Shaw played Dudley's very bitter mother, Petunia, who was also the sister of Lily Potter and Harry's aunt.
Fiona's acting career has been vast and successful. In recent years, she played a therapist in BBC's hit show Fleabag and also starred in Killing Eve, as MI6 boss Carolyn Martens.
Last year, Fiona slipped into another villainous role in the second season of Bad Sisters, which saw her play the wickedly manipulative Angelica Collins.
The now 66-year-old has also got several up-and-coming shows, according to IMDB, including an adaptation of Hot Milk, which will air this summer, Anansi Boys, and Echo Valley.

The Hollywood child star still living off legendary film 50 years later

More info Jeffrey Voorhees, who starred in the iconic film Jaws 50 years ago, reveals he's still profiting from his on-screen death half a century later. At just 12 years old, Jeffrey was cast as Alex Kintner, a young lad torn apart by the infamous shark while floating on his raft. Fast forward five decades, and Jeffrey is jetted off to Jaws conventions worldwide, leads guided tours of the island where the film was shot, and creates personalised videos for die-hard fans. Fans also visit his website to purchase autographed photos of his gruesome death scene, as well as t-shirts, mugs, and limited edition signed replica rafts for £107 each. Now 62, Jeffrey says: "It pays to die. I was a 12 year-old kid who was in the movie for like a minute, but there are some real Jaws fanatics out there.", reports the Mirror. "One bloke in England just bought 125 photos. I do signings. They fly me all over the world and pay me in cash at those things - around £10,000 a time. "There are Jaws tours and people pay double if I'm on them and next month I'm appearing at three Meet, Greet and Mingle Parties. "I still get paid every time the film appears on TV. My brother lives in Portugal and I'll get texts from him going: 'good news, you just died on TV over here. You'll get another cheque.'". Until recently, Jeffrey was running a restaurant where he sold Alex Kintner burgers and fans would pay him to record personal Cameo videos. He shares: "I did one yesterday from the beach where I died and said: 'Hey! From your dear wife and the dead Alex Kintner – happy birthday!''People seem to enjoy it, although I had a peculiar request last year. A family contacted me and said: 'our father was a big Jaws fan and he passed away on the couch watching the film, can you send your condolences.'"I thought: 'what on earth is this? ' But I decided I'd do it and went down to the beach to record it. ""I said: 'hey, your father and I had a little something in common. He passed away watching me die. This is the deceased Alex Kintner, Jeff Voorhees, here on Martha's Vineyard – Amity Island. Just want to say – have a Jawesome funeral. '""I thought they'd be upset, but they gave me a five star review. '""At first, I used to shy away from the fact that I'd been in Jaws and then finally I realised I could earn some decent money and make people happy. "Released in June 1975 and based on the Peter Benchley novel, Jaws was an immediate blockbuster. The story of a terrifying man-eating great white shark, it caused a significant decrease in beach attendances rapidly became the highest-grossing film ever. Almost a third of America's population rushed to the cinema to see it - more than 67 million people - and an audience of 23m tuned in when it was shown for the first time on UK television in 1981. Jeffrey reminisced on his iconic role as the shark's second and youngest victim in the blockbuster hit Jaws, where the sound of his character being dragged underwater left audiences horrified as the torn remains of a yellow inflatable washed up on sheer chance, he stumbled upon the role after just signing up to be an extra, but soon found himself acting alongside titans of the silver screen like Steven Spielberg, who was directing one of his early major films, and stars Richard Dreyfuss (marine biologist Matt Hooper) and Robert Shaw (shark hunter Quint).Yet, Jeffrey recollects that the notorious drinker Robert Shaw was far from pleased to be performing with children." Spielberg felt bad for all the kids because we were freezing cold and he set up some cook-outs and baseball games, so we'd be out there playing baseball with Richard Dreyfuss. ""Robert Shaw would be sitting over by the fire, far away from everyone. We were just little kids and we went: 'oh, let's go say hello to him. '""We all ran up and he sounded just like he did in the movie. We could smell booze and he went: 'get away from me you little s***s! ' He wanted nothing to do with us! "The iconic film, set in the made-up Amity Island beach resort, saw its production on Martha's Vineyard, which is still home to Jeffrey, and he mentions the buzz around town at the time." We heard rumours that they were making a movie and were paying $40 a day to be an extra," Jeffrey recalls." We all signed up and then a few days later I was called in by Steven Spielberg, who asked me to read a few lines and then made me sign a ton of papers. ""He said I was joining the Screen Actors Guild because I'd got a speaking part and was going to be paid $140 a day. That's pretty good when you're 12 years old. "Initially, Alex's death scene involved a dummy filled with fake blood and organs which the shark tore Jaws team even added screams and the sound of bones crushing to make it as horrifying as possible, but when the scene was shown at a test screening in 1975, filmgoers fainted and threw says: "It was too hardcore. So, they changed it and asked me to swim out to a barrel filled with blood. ""They said: 'lie on top of it and when it explodes in the air go under the water and stay under for as long as you can. '""Spielberg was only 27 and he wanted everything perfect, so he went: 'your arm came out of the water, we've got to do it again. '""We had to wait seven hours for the blood to clear out of the water before we could try again. We did it again and this time my leg came out of the water. ""Five days later he said: 'right ok, this is getting too long. We've got two guys in wetsuits and this time when it explodes, they'll each grab a leg and lift you in and out of the water a few times. They're then going to pull you under and give you air. '"One guy in England just bought 125 photos. I do signings. They fly me all over the world and pay me in cash at those things - around £10,000 a time." People always say: 'were you afraid of the shark? I'm like: 'no, I was afraid of freezing my 12 year-old ass off! '"After starring in 'Jaws', Jeffrey turned to the world of TV with a role in the hit American series 'Santa Barbara' and the movie 'One More Shot', before taking a different path as a seafood restaurant hung up his managerial apron last year, yet his 'Jaws' legacy endures, keeping him in the spotlight. Recalling a fan encounter, Jeffrey says: "I went to a fan convention in Manchester a few years ago. There was a man who'd been waiting there since 2am and had Jaws tattoos all over him. He said he had one spot left and asked me to sign inside the shark's mouth. He then went off to get my autograph tattooed there permanently. "Even as the film celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, the chilling impact of 'Jaws' lives on. Describing family reactions, Jeffrey remarks: "My nephew watched Jaws when he was ten. We went to the water a couple of weeks later and he said: 'I'm not going in there; I don't want to be eaten by a shark. ' He wouldn't go in the sea for a whole summer!"

Michelle Collins has opened up about her upcoming break from playing Cindy Beale on EastEnders and even admitted that playing the character was 'exhausting' Michelle Collins has revealed that playing infamous Cindy Beale is "exhausting". The actress left EastEnders fans gobsmacked when she returned from the dead in 2023, and since heading back to Walford, she's left no stone unturned in her plan of destruction. Since returning, Cindy has certainly made her mark – reuniting with her former husband, George Knight, and their children, Anna and Gina, after completely vanishing from their bar in Marbella, and even leaving her mother-in-law, Kathy Beale, speechless when she first appeared in her kitchen. Cindy also found herself having an affair with George's son, Junior, leaving the Knights' and Beales' in a state of disbelief when the bombshell was announced. Over Christmas, she was almost killed when Kathy hit her around the head with a shovel, leaving her for dead in the middle of the square. Now, she's opened up about playing the controversial character and admits she finds Cindy "exhausting." Speaking to Ed Balls and Kate Garraway on Good Morning Britain, Michelle said: "I am loving it, Cindy has taken over The Prince Albert which is really fantastic, so we're kind of seeing another side to Cindy, a lighter side – which I think, Cindy can be exhausting for people to watch and exhausting for me to play. "Which is why it's nice to go off and do something nice. Years ago, they didn't let people go off and do many things – maybe the odd panto or something but we have a very new lovely producer and I was very quiet." Speaking about taking a break to pursue another project, Michelle said: "When I broached the idea, he said 'Maybe we can make it work' and he has made it work, which is really exciting. "You go off and I am going back, you go back and feel re-engergised, you bring something else to the table." Michelle added: "You're doing a continuing drama, continuing throughout the year, it's good for the soul. It's good to go and do something else." But now, the actress, 63, is heading towards taking a break from the BBC One soap opera and will be turning her hand to a live stage production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Michelle will be taking part in a one-woman show, which she says is "exciting." Michelle will be performing in Motorhome Marilyn, a dark comedy following Denise, an aspiring actress, who had an obsessive relationship with the late Hollywood pin-up. The show has been inspired by Michelle's real-life encounter with a woman known in Hollywood as Motorhome Marilyn, who is often spotted on Hollywood Boulevard cosplaying as the movie icon. But Michelle admits she "wasn't obsessed" with Marilyn. Speaking about her break, Michelle told the Mirror at the British Soap Awards: "Well I'm going off in the summer. I'm doing my one woman show at the Edinburgh festival, called Motorhome Marilyn. "I don't think she's anything like Cindy. It's a play about a woman impersonator lookalike who lives in a trailer and dresses as Marilyn Monroe. But she's 60, it's kind of strange. It's about failure, lost dreams, and feeling like life has passed you by. She's an interesting character. I'm really excited to play it. EastEnders have let me have a month off so I'm very excited."
