Felda manager charged with eight counts of using forged documents
IPOH: A Felda manager was charged in the Sessions Court here today with eight counts of using forged documents related to contract labour and machinery payments six years ago. Hendra Mohamad Nazeri, 45, who was the Felda manager at Gunung Besout 4 in Sungkai, pleaded not guilty to all charges when they were read before Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad. For the first and second charges, Hendra is alleged to have dishonestly used six delivery order receipts from Minitech Bidor Quarry Sdn Bhd as genuine documents. These documents were used as supporting evidence for a supply project involving labour, machinery, and equipment to deliver 100 tonnes of crusher run stones to Felda Gunung Besout 4, specifically at Lots Block 01, 03, and 05, each valued at RM5,000. The offences were allegedly committed at a Maybank branch in Jalan Ahmad Boestamam, Slim River, on Dec 23, 2019. Hendra also faces six additional charges for instructing a 37-year-old Felda Gunung Besout 4 Land Scheme Supervisor to prepare false documents, namely Contract Work Payment Certificates. These documents were purportedly for supplying labour, vehicles, and machinery to conduct pest control for leaf-eating caterpillars over 12.04 hectares, and to repair roads over a stretch of 1,000 metres in Felda Gunung Besout, valued at RM1,149.12 and RM2,200, respectively. Additional claims included house and office repair works, drainage and pipeline repairs spanning 500 metres, and supplying signage for staff housing areas, involving a total value of RM12,668. All six offences were allegedly committed at the Felda Gunung Besout 4 office between July 2020 and March 2021. The charges fall under Section 471 of the Penal Code and are punishable under Section 465 of the same Act, which carries a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer Mohd Afiq Mohd Adnan prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. During mitigation, Hendra appealed for a reduced bail amount of RM500, stating that he is the sole breadwinner and suffers from a heart condition. "I rely on Felda payments and have numerous financial obligations and debts. I have fully cooperated with the MACC and followed all procedures," he said. However, the prosecution requested that bail be set at RM5,000 per charge. The court later set total bail at RM6,000 with one surety, and fixed Sept 11 for mention and appointment of legal counsel.

BALIK PULAU: A former factory store worker was charged at the magistrate's court here today with the theft of computer chips worth RM1.157 million about four months ago. Ruhaizzat Rusol, 33, claimed trial to the charge, which was read to him before magistrate Chia Huey Ting. He is alleged to have stolen five boxes of Xilinx Virtex UltraScale chips containing 180 units valued at RM1.157 million from a locked and fenced storage area at the Jabil Plant 2 building in Bayan Lepas, around 3.30pm on April 26. The charge was framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine upon conviction. National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Edmund Anthony Hermon, who represented Ruhaizzat, told the court that his client was now working as an e-hailing driver. "My client's income is irregular and he is responsible for caring for his mother. "As such, we request the court to grant minimal bail," he said, adding that Ruhaizzat was unmarried. Chia then set bail at RM7,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 25 for document submission and appointment of counsel.

RM3.6m lost in Umrah fraud cases since 2024
KUALA LUMPUR: Since 2024 until May this year, 204 complaints related to Umrah fraud, with losses totaling RM3.6 million, have been reported, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan. He said the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) also recorded 58 complaints about Haj package fraud, amounting to over RM600,000 in losses. 'According to the Foreign Ministry, the Malaysian consulate general in Jeddah reported that at least 97 Malaysians were detained and deported by Saudi authorities during this year's Haj season. 'Another 34 individuals were fined for trying to perform Haj without valid visas,' he said during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. Zulkifli shared these figures in response to a question from Zahari Kechik (PN-Jeli) about the financial losses faced by Haj and Umrah pilgrims in 2024 and 2025, and what the government is doing to stop such scams. Regarding the recent case of 47 Malaysians scammed by a Haj fraud syndicate, Zulkifli said 25 police reports were made on June 23. Investigations revealed violations of of Section 21 A, C, and D of the Haj Fund Act 1995 by those organising the trips, despite not being licenced Haj travel agents (PJH) for the 2025 season. Two individuals were charged in court on July 29 and could face penalties under the Haj Fund Act. MOTAC has also been informed of these violations and may suspend or revoke the company's licence for putting the public at risk. Zulkifli added that the individuals caught trying to perform Haj with tourist visas dealt with non-licenced agents. 'TH (Pilgrims Fund Board) can only take action against licenced agents, including canceling their licence, blacklisting them, or imposing fines,' he said. - Bernama
