Who is Remy Cointreau's new CEO, Franck Marilly?
May 28 (Reuters) - French wines and spirits company Remy Cointreau (RCOP.PA), opens new tab announced on Wednesday that Franck Marilly will replace CEO Eric Vallat who resigned earlier this year.
Marilly will take up his new role on June 25, after a transition period working with Vallat.
Marilly, 59, is from France and has more than 30 years of experience working in luxury and cosmetics groups. He is a graduate of the EDC Paris Business School.
Having lived and worked internationally, he said in a press release he has a deep attachment to the land in south-west France, where he is from and where the Cognac region is located.
Marilly started his career in the luxury industry as a general manager for a division of the fragrance group Chanel in 1991.
He worked for consumer goods giant Unilever between 1994 and 2001, first as managing director of the cosmetics export division then managing cosmetics for Spain and Portugal followed by France and Belgium.
Marilly came back to Chanel to be managing director of the Italian and then French market before being promoted to senior vice president of U.S. fashion. In 2010, he returned to Europe to become the continent's managing director for Chanel's fragrance and beauty until 2017.
Before joining Remy Cointreau, he was working for Japan's Shiseido as President and CEO and Chairman of the EMEA and global fragrance division.
In February, he was also appointed as Foreign Trade Adviser of France.
Marilly will have to lead the French cognac maker through a period of sales decline and tariff threats in its key U.S. and Chinese markets.
"We are convinced that he will bring a new dynamic and will be able to confidently address the new challenges of the Group's growth in a complex macroeconomic and geopolitical context," Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Marie-Amélie de Leusse said in a press release.
Remy makes some 70% of its sales from cognac, mostly in the U.S. and China, but right now, drinkers in those nations are not buying the brandy and sales have fallen.

BREAKING NEWS Car ploughs into pedestrians in French city of Grenoble leaving four members of the same family injured as young woman fights for life
Four members of the same family were horrifically injured after a car ran them over in Grenoble, France on Saturday night. Horrific video footage from the eastern city, just an hour away from Lyon, showed the aftermath of the accident. A young woman was said to be the worst injured and 'fighting for her life' after being hit first. Two others were also in intensive care, while a fourth was 'extremely badly injured,' a spokesman for local emergency services said. The car was said to have hit 'four members of the same family' just before midnight, the emergency services spokesman confirmed. 'The driver jumped out of the car, and originally tried to run away, before handing himself over to police.' All members of the family were treated and taken to Grenoble Alpes University Hospital and 27 police officers and 40 firefighters rushed to the scene. According to local media a police prefecture stated 'a vehicle apparently lost control' before adding that the driver had surrendered to the police and is now in custody. A source told Ouest France the driver was driving at high speed on Cours Jean-Jaurès, one of Grenoble's main arteries, when he attempted a controlled skid. Videos on social media showed emergency services rushing to the scene as they cordoned off the road while crowds gathered on pavements. The incident comes as at least 131 people were arrested for football-related violence and looting in the French capital on the same night as 'barbarians took to the streets' following Paris St Germain being crowned European Champions. Alleged 'savagery' broke out across the city before, during and after PSG beat Inter Milan in the Champions League Final in Munich, Germany. Major roads close to Parc des Princes, the PSG home ground were invaded by fans, bringing traffic to a halt. This led to riot police trying to restore order using tear gas and baton charges. Cars were set on fire around the Porte de Saint-Cloud – a major traffic intersection, where rocket fireworks were fired at police. Huge crowds gathered in all the city's major squares, including République, Bastille, and Nation, where videos posted on X showed some of the worst violence. — Wolf 🐺 (@PsyGuy007) May 31, 2025 At Bastille, a 23-year-old woman was seriously injured after falling onto barriers from the famous column commemorating the Storming of the Bastille in 1789. A ring of steel had been created around the Champs-Élysées, with major department stores and banks using steel shutters to try and keep looters away. PSG's official club shops on the Champs, and at their ground, were also barricaded over the weekend. Despite this, a Foot Locker sports store on Champs-Élysées was broken into, and goods including multiple trainers stolen. A Maisons du Monde furniture store on the nearby Avenue Wagram was also looted, said a police spokesman. 'The crowds are going wild,' said an eye-witness, who asked to be referred to as Jacques, 18. 'Many people are just enjoying the win, on a historic night for PSG, while others just want to be violent, and to vandalise or steal stuff – it is shameful.' Youths wearing masks and hoodies were meanwhile seen roaming around the city looking for trouble. Motorbikes and discared mattresses were set alight, sending thick black smoke billowing through the night sky. There was even fighting reported around the Eiffel Tower, which was lit up in PSG's red, white and blue following their 5-0 win. Around 5,400 police officers were on duty across the Paris, as trouble was always expected, whatever the result.

Alpine's New A390 Is a Performance EV Crossover With French Flair
Alpine aims to take on the big names In recent years, legendary French performance and sports car brand Alpine has been reimagining itself as a performance-oriented electric car brand. Last year, the Renault-owned marque launched its first electric car, the A290, a compact hatchback designed to be a faster and more agile version of one of its parent company's smallest offerings. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Tesla sales in Europe drop yet again Watch More But if sales figures are any indication, many electric vehicle customers are opting for the kind of space and usability found in crossovers like Tesla's Model Y and BYD's Seal U. However, Alpine's lineup of electric vehicles is expanding, and its latest offering is its take on other cars from the popular segment. Alpine A390 GTS — Source: Alpine Meet the A390, the electric 'sport fastback' Alpine has recently unveiled the A390, a five-door electric crossover that it insists you call a 'sport fastback.' Based almost entirely on the A390_β (beta) concept, the new Alpine takes some crucial styling cues from its A110 sports car and remixes them into a package that looks a little more futuristically aggressive and edgy than most crossovers on the road. From the outside, the A390 slightly resembles the A110, as subtle and sporty features like hidden and flush door handles and a sloped roof give the top half of the crossover the same distinct shape. At the same time, Alpine has also given the A390 some aggressive looks to separate itself from its 'egg-shaped' competition, including triangular-shaped LED cutouts, pencil-thin headlights, and oversized air intakes on the front bumper. You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. The A390 may blend modern and futuristic styling, but it is Alpine's biggest car ever. Its raw numbers show that it has a 106.6-inch wheelbase and measures 181.7 inches in length, 74.2 inches in width, and 60.3 inches in height. Underneath the stylish skin, Alpine proves that it means business with its performance. The new A390 rides on Renault's AmpR Medium platform, which is also used in the Renault Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, and the Nissan Ariya. However, it features some tweaks for a better driving experience, including an all-wheel drive system with an Active Torque Vectoring system to enhance its handling in the corners. Alpine A390 GTS — Source: Alpine Its power matches its looks The A390 comes in two different trims: the GT and GTS. Both feature a tri-motor setup with one motor in the front and two in the back. The base GT model delivers 396 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, capable of 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph. Conversely, the GTS makes 463 hp and a massive 596 lb-ft of torque, cutting the 0-60 time to just 3.9 seconds and bumping the top speed to 137 mph. Both versions use an 89 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides 323 to 345 miles of WLTP range and can be charged at charging stations offering up to 190 kW DC fast charging. The A390 also features a steering wheel-mounted 'overtake' function that provides a boost of power for approximately 10 seconds, although it takes 30 seconds to cool down before it can be used again. In addition, Alpine's two distinct 'Drive Sound' profiles, called 'Daily' and 'Sport,' feature different synthetic engine sounds that can be adjusted according to your mood or throttle position. Alpine A390 GTS — Source: Alpine The Alpine A390 shares much of its interior with other Alpine and Renault models, including familiar bits like the steering wheel, drive selector, and dashboard electronics. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12-inch 'portrait mode' infotainment screen with some physical switches are pointed toward the driver. However, some Alpine-specific features suggest this is a more premium offering than other models. Top-of-the-line A390 GTSs get Nappa leather Sabelt bucket seats with massage functionality and a 13-speaker, 850-watt Devialet audio system. Pricing has not been announced yet, but it's pegged to be competitive against electric rivals like the $75,300 Porsche Macan Electric and the $109,000 Maserati Grecale Folgore. Alpine A390 GTS — Source: Alpine Final thoughts Alpine is currently offering the A390 solely in Europe, as it is putting its plans to expand to the U.S. on hold due to the tariff situation. Initially, the brand was due to launch in the States during the 2027 model year. Politics aside, French cars are an anomaly in the United States. Though established car enthusiasts may stray away, I can picture a new generation of well-to-do people searching for the avant-garde, adopting the Alpine as their vehicle of choice.

Emma Watson's dad warns parents of new Harry, Ron and Hermione of 'impact of fame on children' as HBO TV series begins filming
Emma Watson 's dad has warned the parents of the new Harry, Ron and Hermione of the 'impact of fame on children' as filming for the HBO TV series begins. The latest leading trio were finally announced this week after months of speculation - with Dominic McLaughlin landing the title role, while Arabella Stanton is set to play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will portray Ron Weasley. Emma, 35, played Hermione for ten years in the Harry Potter film series, and now her dad Chris has told of how he worked hard to keep her 'grounded.' He told Times Radio: 'As a parent, you have to be scared ... This can be a very difficult thing for a parent and child to handle, or not. 'It certainly helped that I don't actually watch movies, it's not a big thing in the house, and so it was easier for us to keep her feet on the ground.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. He added: 'Normal life continued as far as possible: her homework would go back to school on motorbikes, admittedly, but she had to do her homework and check in.' Filming for the new HBO series started this week in France with cast and crew setting up on the Île de Sein off the coast of Brittany where they are thought to be re-creating the famous moment that Hagrid says, 'You're a wizard Harry!' JK Rowling gave her approval to the trio cast as the new child stars of the multi-million-pound TV adaptation - after previously giving short shrift to racists complaining about producers' picks. There has been some online backlash against what has been branded ' woke ' reinterpreting of the wizarding franchise based on the seven bestselling books by Rowling, 59, which prompted eight movie versions. But the multi-millionaire author yesterday gave her first public response to the new Harry Potter television casting announcement, with showbusiness insiders suggesting she would have a key role in the new productions. One fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, asking the bestselling author to inform the new recruits the wizarding franchise's creator felt about their casting. And now Rowling has responded by declaring: 'All three are wonderful. I couldn't be happier.' The writer was replying to a tweet which said: '@jk_rowling @streamonmax @harrypotter Please tell Dominic, Arabella and Alistair that they are already loved by the fandom and we can't wait to see the show! We wish them all the best and that they have a magic time.' The new adaptation will be spread across seven seasons, equal to the number of books - although there were eight films with the final Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows split into two parts. The HBO TV show is said to be costing £75million per episode - and the three child actors taking the lead roles have been tipped to land themselves even bigger fortunes than the original stars. Producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod praised the 'wonderful' talent of the three newcomers, when making Tuesday's casting announcement. They said: 'After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. 'The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. 'We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.' Rowling released the first Harry Potter novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets the following year. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released in 1999, followed by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2000. Three years later Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix was published and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2005. The final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released in 2007. The first movie was released in 2001 and the final one came out in 2011. They played their roles for a decade.
