BREAKING NEWS Car ploughs into pedestrians in French city of Grenoble leaving four members of the same family injured as young woman fights for life

Daily Mail3 days ago

Four members of the same family were horrifically injured after a car ran them over in Grenoble, France on Saturday night.
Horrific video footage from the eastern city, just an hour away from Lyon, showed the aftermath of the accident.
A young woman was said to be the worst injured and 'fighting for her life' after being hit first.
Two others were also in intensive care, while a fourth was 'extremely badly injured,' a spokesman for local emergency services said.
The car was said to have hit 'four members of the same family' just before midnight, the emergency services spokesman confirmed.
'The driver jumped out of the car, and originally tried to run away, before handing himself over to police.'
All members of the family were treated and taken to Grenoble Alpes University Hospital and 27 police officers and 40 firefighters rushed to the scene.
According to local media a police prefecture stated 'a vehicle apparently lost control' before adding that the driver had surrendered to the police and is now in custody.
A source told Ouest France the driver was driving at high speed on Cours Jean-Jaurès, one of Grenoble's main arteries, when he attempted a controlled skid.
Videos on social media showed emergency services rushing to the scene as they cordoned off the road while crowds gathered on pavements.
The incident comes as at least 131 people were arrested for football-related violence and looting in the French capital on the same night as 'barbarians took to the streets' following Paris St Germain being crowned European Champions.
Alleged 'savagery' broke out across the city before, during and after PSG beat Inter Milan in the Champions League Final in Munich, Germany.
Major roads close to Parc des Princes, the PSG home ground were invaded by fans, bringing traffic to a halt.
This led to riot police trying to restore order using tear gas and baton charges.
Cars were set on fire around the Porte de Saint-Cloud – a major traffic intersection, where rocket fireworks were fired at police.
Huge crowds gathered in all the city's major squares, including République, Bastille, and Nation, where videos posted on X showed some of the worst violence.

At Bastille, a 23-year-old woman was seriously injured after falling onto barriers from the famous column commemorating the Storming of the Bastille in 1789.
A ring of steel had been created around the Champs-Élysées, with major department stores and banks using steel shutters to try and keep looters away.
PSG's official club shops on the Champs, and at their ground, were also barricaded over the weekend.
Despite this, a Foot Locker sports store on Champs-Élysées was broken into, and goods including multiple trainers stolen.
A Maisons du Monde furniture store on the nearby Avenue Wagram was also looted, said a police spokesman.
'The crowds are going wild,' said an eye-witness, who asked to be referred to as Jacques, 18.
'Many people are just enjoying the win, on a historic night for PSG, while others just want to be violent, and to vandalise or steal stuff – it is shameful.'
Youths wearing masks and hoodies were meanwhile seen roaming around the city looking for trouble.
Motorbikes and discared mattresses were set alight, sending thick black smoke billowing through the night sky.
There was even fighting reported around the Eiffel Tower, which was lit up in PSG's red, white and blue following their 5-0 win.
Around 5,400 police officers were on duty across the Paris, as trouble was always expected, whatever the result.

Aussie Olympic gold medallist Torah Bright reveals her son's stunning sixth-sense premonition about her new pregnancy

Australian Olympic gold medallist Torah Bright has bizarrely revealed her son Flow 'knew she was pregnant before she did' as she announced she is expecting her third child. Bright, 38, is best known for snaring gold in the women's halfpipe snowboarding at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Now a mother of two boys, the decorated snowboarder is busily preparing for baby number three. 'The boys are already so in love,' she posted via Instagram on Wednesday. 'We are keeping the gender a surprise until birth, but I'm feeling a third boy.' Next was Flow Bright's left-field premonition. Bright snared gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver when competing in the women's halfpipe competition (pictured, in action) 'Fun fact: Flow (eldest son) knew I was pregnant before I actually was,' the post continued. 'A whole month before I conceived, he was telling people I had a baby in my belly. 'Maybe he already knows who this little soul is. 'Every night, Halo (second child) falls asleep holding my belly - and every morning, he wakes up and kisses it. 'Our hearts are expanding, and so is our family. 'So grateful for this growing love.' In 2021, Bright turned heads after sharing a photo showing her breastfeeding her 10-month-old son while performing a headstand. The photo, posted to Facebook, sparked a fierce online debate - and the Olympic champion later expressed her regret at the polarising image. At the time, the breastfeeding photo attracted thousands of comments, including one that read 'now that's a balanced meal'. Another said: 'Breastfeed anywhere, anytime', while a third commentator wrote 'What an awesome mama bear. Love her.' But Bright was also criticised, with one commenting: 'I'm not saying it's not beautiful. 'Breastfeeding is between a mum and a child. This is way too much. It's not about handstands and seeing how that child could actually latch on for likes.' 'Reading some of the comments make me sad,' Bright later wrote in an Instagram story. 'In my world, mother's should be each other's cheerleaders (it is hard enough). 'Embrace our quirkiness and finding the joy in every sh***y thing that is motherhood. 'We all do it differently, it is not wrong or right. Motherhood is pure. 'I only now consider myself a wonder woman because I have joined the sacred club with you. Nothing but respect to all mothers.'

Manchester: Thirty police officers sent to deal with bar brawl

Every police officer in a city centre unit was despatched to deal with a fight at a bar, licensing chiefs have been told. The brawl broke out at Eagle, on Deansgate, Manchester, on 4 May, and saw 200 people spill out onto the police had been called the week before, when a neighbour thought they had heard a security guard shout 'gun' during another altercation. On Monday, Manchester City Council's licensing committee lifted the suspension of the bar's licence and imposed conditions. The bar's licensee, Ugochukwu Inyama, apologised for the he said he had felt "ganged up on" because of how many complaints had been made - many of which had not been upheld. The committee heard from neighbours that there was a "wider trend" of antisocial behaviour at the premises, including people urinating in the street and playing loud music from cars parked outside. PC Stuart Hammersley said Greater Manchester Police had sent all of its night-time economy team of 30 officers to the 4 May incident. "For all 30 [police officers] to attend is unusual. It's not a weekly occurrence," he added."All those officers not engaged means they are not across the city centre and other busy areas."Mr Inyama, a 25-year veteran of Manchester's hospitality scene, said the fights were "very regrettable"."GMP have looked at the whole thing and they have made recommendations which we fully agree with," he told the committee."Those two nights we slipped up and we are sorry about it." 'Bottle shows' Deansgate ward councillor Anthony McCaul said he believed Eagle had ignored a condition that said it should promote responsible drinking. He showed pictures taken from the bar's social media accounts showing alcohol being poured from bottles into women's mouths. Licensee Mr Inyama said the images taken showed "bottle shows", and no alcohol was poured into customers' mouths by staff. Mr Inyama admitted he "could see" the image promoted irresponsible behaviour. The committee heard there had been 40 complaints in about 18 months, and officers said they had found no evidence of noise problems. Mr Inyama added: "On May 26, 2025, we were closed and a resident reported an incident that we had music playing and cars parked all over the place. "We had the licensing team visit and look at CCTV and they could see we were closed." Four crimes were recorded at Eagle in the previous 12 months - two phone thefts and two assaults -which PC Hammersley said was "below average" for a town bar. The committee imposed a condition that no bottles could be served, other than wine with meals, and ordered the bar to close earlier at weekends. It must now close at 02:00 GMT on Fridays and Saturdays, and 01:00 on Sundays. Listen to the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
