Work on first phase of jungle safari in the Aravalis to begin soon: Haryana Minister

Haryana Forest and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Friday said work on the first phase of the 10,000-acre jungle safari in the Aravalis would begin soon, adding that the project would be equipped with world-class facilities. Mr. Rao made the remark after meeting Union Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi to discuss the project. The project would give a new identity to the National Capital Region in the direction of a green and sustainable environment, said the Minister, adding that it would be developed in four phases. 'Green tourism' 'Of the total project area, 2,500 acres will be developed in the first phase. The project will play an important role in promoting green tourism as well as conservation of wildlife,' said Mr. Rao. With the aim of equipping the project with world-class facilities and adopting the best model in its construction, the Minister said that he, along with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Mr. Lal, had recently visited the 'Vantara' Jungle Safari in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This visit provided important support in understanding the technical, structural, and conservation-based aspects of the project, he said. BJP's poll promise The project, which is spread across Gurugram and Nuh districts of the State, was one of the poll promises made by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in its manifesto last year. However, it has faced stiff opposition ever since it was first mooted. A group of 37 retired Indian Forest Service officers had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year demanding that the project be scrapped. They argued that the project's aim was to simply increase tourist footfall and not conserve the mountain range.

There should be no double standards: India on EU sanctions

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) India does not subscribe to any unilateral sanction measures, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in response to the European Union announcing fresh punitive measures on Russia, especially on its energy trade. The European Union (EU) has announced a new package of sanctions aimed at Russia over its war against Ukraine. It also named India's Vadinar Refinery in which Russian energy firm Rosneft has a major stake. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India does not subscribe to any unilateral sanction measures. The 18th package of sanctions included measures largely aimed at curbing the revenues of Russia's oil and energy sector such as an import ban on refined petroleum products made from Russian crude oil. The EU's foreign and security policy chief Kaja Kallas said on social media that the 27-member bloc had approved 'one of its strongest sanctions packages against Russia to date". The new sanctions include a lower oil price cap, the designation of the 'biggest Rosneft refinery in India", and measures aimed at 105 more shadow fleet ships. 'We have noted the latest sanctions announced by the European Union," Jaiswal said. He said India is a 'responsible" actor and remain fully committed to its legal obligations. 'The government of India considers the provision of energy security a responsibility of paramount importance to meet the basic needs of its citizens," he said. 'We would stress that there should be no double standards, especially when it comes to energy trade," he added. Secure funds for Andhras development projects, says CM Naidu to TDP MPs

Amaravati, Jul 18 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday asked TDP MPs to intensify their efforts to secure the necessary funds and advance key development projects of the state in the Parliament. Chairing a Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party meeting at his camp office, the CM emphasised the importance of utilising the Parliament sessions effectively. 'Intensify efforts to secure the necessary funds and advance key development projects for the state," said Naidu in a release. He urged the MPs to raise crucial issues such as the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers, river water disputes, and industrial development. Naidu emphasised the need to present the state government's initiatives on these matters to the Centre's attention through the Parliament. 'MPs have been assigned responsibilities according to specific departments. You must maintain consistent dialogue with the union ministers regarding issues and pending matters while ensuring coordination with the state administration," he said. He also directed the members to focus on contemporary initiatives such as Quantum Valley, Green Hydrogen Valley, population management and others, among other guidelines.
