Türkiye detains 56 active-duty soldiers over links to failed coup
Istanbul, May 23 (UNI) Turkish police detained 56 active-duty soldiers on Friday over their alleged links to a failed coup in an operation spanning 36 provinces, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced.
In a statement, the office said arrest warrants had been issued for 63 soldiers over links to the network known as the Gulen movement, which the Turkish government holds responsible for the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
Simultaneous operations began at 6 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) to apprehend the suspects, and so far, 56 active-duty soldiers from various branches, including the Air Force, Gendarmerie, Land Forces, and Navy, have been apprehended. The operations are still ongoing to apprehend the remaining individuals.
The Gulen movement, led by Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen, who passed away in 2024 in the United States, has been accused by the Turkish government of masterminding the coup attempt, which resulted in the deaths of over 250 people.

Rajasthan: Woman admitted in ICU of Alwar hospital raped by nursing staff
Alwar, June 6 (UNI) A 32-year-old woman, who was admitted in the ICU following a surgery in a hospital in Alwar, has alleged she was raped by a nursing staff member on the night of June 4, police said on Friday. The woman was admitted to Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College in Alwar's industrial area. Police sources said the accused administered an injection to sedate the woman and then committed the crime. The woman regained consciousness in the morning and informed her family members about the incident. The woman's husband alleged that the hospital administration is trying to cover up the case. However, when the victim informed the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) City about the incident, the ADM directed the police to take immediate action. The police have registered a case and taken the victim's statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The victim's medical examination has also been conducted. The Dean of the Medical College, Dr Asim Das, stated that an investigation team has been formed to look into the incident and will submit its report by Saturday. He assured that strict action will be taken against the accused if found guilty. The hospital administration has also instructed to preserve all CCTV footage and will cooperate with the investigating agency. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of patients in hospitals. The police are investigating the matter and trying to identify the accused. UNI XC AKT RN

Katra (J&K) June 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday hailed the rail-link of Kashmir with the rest of the country as a 'historic accomplishment,' stating that the development will boost tourism, trade, and bring comfort in the daily lives of people of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a large gathering at Katra during the inauguration of the Chenab and Anji Bridges and at the flagging off ceremony of the Vande Bharat Train to Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah highlighted the difficulties faced by people during inclement weather when highway closures lead to exorbitant airfares. This marks Kashmir's first all-weather railway connectivity with the rest of India. Also present on the occasion were Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union MoS PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, and other dignitaries. 'The benefits to Jammu and Kashmir will be substantial. Tourism will receive a major boost, and the daily lives of our residents will improve,' the Chief Minister said. 'With this railway line operational, that hardship will be alleviated to a great extent, offering affordable and reliable transportation,' he noted. 'Even during British rule, plans were envisioned — such as the proposed Uri and Jhelum railway lines — but they remained unfulfilled. What the British could not achieve, you have made a reality. You have connected Kashmir with the rest of India and, through it, to the wider world. This is a historic accomplishment,' he said. Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he credited him for being the first to recognize the rail network to Kashmir as a project of national importance.
