From England tour to controversy
Akash Deep played three Tests in the India-England series, taking 13 wickets. His standout performance came in the second Test at Edgbaston, where he took 10 wickets and scored a half-century. He dedicated the match haul to his elder sister, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
'My message was not just for my sister; it was for the entire country and the world, emphasizing the importance of standing by loved ones during difficult times,' he said.
On-field exchanges with Ben Duckett
The pacer also spoke about his on-field conversation with England opener Ben Duckett during the Oval Test. "I told Duckett, 'You won't be the only one hitting; I'll hit too. Sometimes you miss, and I hit'," Akash Deep said. He added that Duckett had told him he would not be dismissed, and his reply was in response.
Final day at the Oval Recalling the series finale, Akash Deep said, "I woke up early due to excitement, knowing we needed four wickets, and England wanted just 35 runs, and that only we three pacers had to do it. But we believed in ourselves, and the England batters apparently panicked. We didn't know the ball would start swinging in the morning, but once it did, we realized the wickets would fall quickly, and that's what happened."
Praise for Siraj
On bowling partner Mohammed Siraj, he said, "As a fast bowler, he is fit, and the way he puts in effort behind the ball sets him apart. Playing five consecutive matches is commendable. From this, one learns that being mentally fit is more important than being physically fit."

Maharashtra Govt grants final extension for HSRP installation till Nov 30

The Maharashtra Transport Department has granted a final extension for the installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. The earlier deadline, which was first set for March 31, 2025, and later extended to August 15, 2025, has now been pushed to November 30, 2025. Transport commissioner has instructed all regional and deputy regional transport officers to conduct extensive awareness drives within their jurisdictions. (REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO) This decision comes after the department considered multiple factors, including pending installations, delays in appointment availability, late opening of rural fitment centres, closure of some centres, and strong demands from the public and elected representatives. The order issued on Thursday by state transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar states: 'From December 1, 2025, strict legal action will be taken by special enforcement squads (Vayuveg Pathak) against vehicles that are still without HSRP. However, vehicle owners who have confirmed appointments scheduled before November 30, 2025, will be exempt from action until their fitment date.' The directive also reinforces existing restrictions for non-HSRP vehicles. Owners without HSRP are already barred from services such as ownership transfer and hypothecation changes. Starting December, additional services like re-registration, vehicle modification approvals, and permit renewals (except fitness certificate renewals) will be halted until HSRP is installed. Vehicles detained during inspections will not be released unless they have HSRP plates. Transport commissioner has instructed all regional and deputy regional transport officers to conduct extensive awareness drives within their jurisdictions. 'Local vehicle dealers, auto-rickshaw, taxi, and bus associations must be informed through meetings, ensuring no vehicle owner is unaware of the final deadline. Citizens have been urged to complete the HSRP installation process before the deadline to avoid penalties and service restrictions,' said Bhimanwar. Complaints related to HSRP can be sent to the department's official email at he added.

HSRP deadline extended to November 30, but with riders

Nagpur: The transport commissioner's office has extended the deadline for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on all vehicles until November 30. The transport office has warned that this is the final deadline, and action will be taken from December 1. Despite repeated deadline extensions by the state transport department, a large number of vehicles have not even registered yet. Out of 22,34,921 vehicles in Nagpur district, 16,70,437 vehicles have not yet registered for HSRP installation. However, transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanvar issued an order on August 14 warning that if registration for HSRP is not done, transport department services will be stopped. So, services like vehicle transfer, removal of mortgage note, re-registration, vehicle modifications, and other services will not be available for vehicle owners without installing HSRP. The deadline for installing HSRP in Maharashtra was earlier March 31, 2025, which was then extended to June 30. Subsequently, orders were issued to change number plates by August 15. However, as there was poor response despite the deadline extension and technical difficulties from the administration's side, a new extension has been granted. Vehicles purchased before April 1, 2019, do not have these number plates. Therefore, they will have to complete this process within the given deadline, otherwise a fine of Rs1,000 will be imposed, the transport department has warned. In the district, 5,64,484 vehicles have registered for HSRP installation so far, while 16,70,437 vehicles remain. Of these, 3,74,679 vehicles have been fitted with number plates. Number plates have not been installed on 18,60,242 vehicles yet, so vehicle owners should register immediately and protect themselves from further action, appealed regional transport officer (Nagpur rural) Vijay Chavan. Annual FASTag pass of Rs 3,000 for private vehicles goes live from Friday

Synopsis A new annual highway toll pass is launching soon. It costs Rs 3,000 for private cars, jeeps, and vans. Users can pre-book FASTag-based passes. This allows 200 highway toll crossings per year. The Rajmarg Yatra app and NHAI website have activation links. Existing FASTag users do not need a new tag. The annual highway toll pass of Rs 3,000 for private cars, jeeps, and vans will be rolled out from Friday. Ahead of the roll out, the government has opened the pre-booking window for FASTag-based annual passes that allow users to cross up to 200 highway toll booths on a single recharge of Rs 3,000 within a year. A dedicated link for activation of the annual pass is available on the Rajmarg Yatra app. The link would also be available on the official websites of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The annual pass will be applicable only for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. It will allow seamless travel across National Highways without the need for repeated recharging of FASTag cards for toll payments. In closed tolling highways such as Delhi-Mumbai Expressway - where toll collection occurs exclusively at exit points - a single trip includes both entry and exit points. On the other hand, on open tolling routes like Delhi-Chandigarh, each toll plaza crossing would constitute a separate trip. The pass can be recharged again once the 200-trip limit in a year is reached. According to the MoRTH, those who already have a FASTag on their vehicles will not need to purchase a new FASTag. The annual pass will be valid only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) fee plazas. At fee plazas on Expressways, State Highways (SH) managed by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag will operate as a regular one, and applicable user fee charges may apply. FASTag - the electronic toll collection system - uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to automatically deduct toll charges from a prepaid account linked to the vehicle. Over 10.1 crore FASTags were issued till December 1, 2024, according to the road transport ministry's 2024 year-end review.
