High Angle Battery in Portland to host torchlit photo exhibition

BBC News5 hours ago

A torchlit photography exhibition exploring themes of otherness, the marginal and the overlooked is set to open at a historic military site.Portland's High Angle Battery is the setting for the exhibition, which has been co-curated by b-side, a Dorset-based arts organisation. An LGBT+ side group b-side helped set up and British-Israeli artist Gil Mualem-Doron have also helped to coordinate it and they appealed for submissions from around the world. The exhibition, which showcases work from 21 international artists, opens on Thursday and runs until Sunday.
"If you can't see people's lives you'll never know they existed but you'll also never recognise the positive contribution that difference makes to our lives," Rocca Holly-Nambi, from b-side, said. "Being seen is to know you're alive. To see yourself in artworks – and they might not be your art – reflected back at you makes you know that you matter and that you exist."The exhibits are contained within the battery's tunnels. The site was built in the 1890s to help defend Portland Harbour against invasion. It was built so shells could be fired onto attacking ships below it, but advancements in ship speed meant it was obsolete after a decade. The art exhibition is the latest in a series of events held at the battery, with an opera event set to be held there next month.

Princess Andre, 17, looks the spitting image of her mother Katie Price, 47, at the same age as she sports a curly-haired look for Dua Lipa concert

Princess Andre looked the spitting image of her mother Katie Price as she posed for a selfie on Wednesday. The daughter of Peter Andre, 17, sported a curly-haired looked similar to her mother in her heyday for the snap after getting ready for a Dua Lipa show. Fully glammed up with a full face of W7 Cosmetics makeup, Princess cracked a smile for the camera as the sun beamed down on her. 'What a beauty...' read the caption penned by Princess's beautician. The curly-haired look brought back memories of Katie, now 47, who donned a similar haircut when she shot to fame back in the 1990s. Pictures of the former glamour model taken during her modelling days in 1995 show her sporting frizzy light-brown locks while clad in a white two-piece skirt and top. Katie has indeed sported a number of different hairstyles over the years. After rising to stardom with her natural curly hair, during her Jordan days Katie would regularly straighten her brown locks. She later dyed her hair blonde, actually sporting a braided look during her time on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004 - when she met Princess's father Peter Andre, 52. The nepo baby this week opened up about her private life in a rare interview, revealing that she's 'not a big drinker'. Princess, who turns 18 this weekend, told Ok! Magazine that she isn't a huge fan of drinking because she'd 'never want to embarrass herself'. 'I'm not really a big drinker or party-goer,' the 17-year-old revealed. 'I'll never put myself in a position that would make me look bad.' Princess also opened up about her split from her boyfriend of two years last month. 'I'm feeling good. I've always kept my personal life personal so I don't talk too much about it but now is the time to focus on me.' It was reported in May that she had split from her partner after her busy career left 'no place for a man'. While her former flame remains unnamed, Princess declared last year that she was 'in love'. According to The Sun Princess, who kept much of her relationship out of the public eye, will be doing the same with the 'tough' break up. A source told the publication: 'They just grew apart, they were each other's first love so it has been tough but there are no hard feelings.' 'He's still on good terms with both Katie and Peter, Princess is really concentrating on her career right now and there's no place for a man'. Princess' reps declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline. The teen first went public with their romance when she invited him along to her mother Katie's 45th birthday celebrations in Brighton in May 2023. Katie then appeared on Jamie Laing's Private Parts podcast, where she opened up on her thoughts about the romance. Discussing her Christmas plans at the time, she revealed: 'Princess and her boyfriend are coming up with me for the weekend.' Jamie excitedly interrupted: 'Princess has a boyfriend!' causing Katie to reply: 'I know, Ed. He's alright actually.' Describing their relationship, she continued: 'I watch them, and they argue, then they laugh. They argue like proper little teenagers. 'They're both like jealous of each other and it's like, 'Oh shut up you two!' They are funny together, they're like a little married couple.' Katie then spoke about her parenting rules for the couple, saying she was 'easygoing' because she remembers how she was at their age. However, Princess' dad Peter Andre has admitted he was 'struggling' with the news that his daughter was dating and told Woman magazine: 'I'm not happy about this at all. I'm struggling beyond belief, but that's life. We've had many chats. I have very strict rules in my house.' He admitted: 'I had this rule that would never have a boyfriend until she was 38, and now she's 16 and she's talking about boys!'. Princess has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame in recent years and this month proudly revealed she's bought her first car with her own money. She's amassed more than 743,000 followers on her Instagram and has vowed to become a 'millionaire by the age of 20'. Princess has already signed big money deals with clothing and beauty brands including being an ambassador for high street chain Superdrug, Studio London, Morphe and Revolution. She made her modelling debut last year and is preparing to star in her own TV show for the first time. In 2024, Princess made her modelling debut with PrettyLittleThing after signing a four-figure deal with the brand. Her mother Katie started modelling at the age of 17 as a fresh-faced natural beauty. Since her first brand deal, Princess has gone on to attend events work work with other fashion and beauty brands including White Fox and Boots.

EXCLUSIVE Couple FLEE swingers retreat after group romps end in disaster - with woman sobbing 'I really can't do this' in show first

A couple on Friday's episode of Open House: The Great Sex Experiment FLEE the swingers retreat after a potential romp ends in disaster. Tomorrow's instalment (June 27 2025) of the Channel 4 show sees Sharmayne, 26, and Jamie, 29, continue to explore opening up their relationship - however it all proves to be too much for the stay-at-home mum. The pair end up going for another date with Jen and Mark to see if they can take things any further... But it appears that Sharmayne still can't take it to the next level with them. In a first look, obtained by MailOnline, Sharmayne and Jamie can be seen walking back to their room at the retreat. Sharmayne looks glamorous in a black cut out dress, while Jamie rocked a black and white short-sleeved shirt, black t-shirt and matching jeans. As they caught up in the bedroom, an emotional Sharmayne says: 'I really can't do this.' Then the couple can be seen packing all the belongings up. Talking to the camera, Sharmayne says: 'I think this whole experience has been an emotional roller coaster. 'However I am glad that we've done it. We've got a lot to take away from the retreat.' And in a show first, Sharmayne and Jamie can then be seen getting into a black car which drives off into the night. It comes after Sharmayne broke down in tears after begging her boyfriend for an open relationship - and it seriously backfired at sex-filled party. After chatting to some of the residents as a couple, they separate and go off to chat to others as individuals. However Sharmayne wasn't very comfortable doing so. Sharmayne says: 'I think this whole experience has been an emotional roller coaster. 'However I am glad that we've done it' While Jamie talks to another couple, Sharmayne grabs him and tells him: 'I want to step out.' She adds: 'I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.' He asks: 'Do you want to take a little break?' Sharmayne adds: '... of the situation, yeah.' The couple head outside and Sharmayne starts crying and she told her husband: 'I just feel overwhelmed. 'It's just a bit much for me, the whole situation.' He told her: 'We're not obligated to do anything. This is our journey.' Jamie asked her: 'Where do we go from here?' to which Sharmayne tells him: 'I don't know.' He tells her that the decision is in her hands. But Sharmayne confesses: 'I don't know if I'm going to be able to hold myself together now. 'I really don't want to do it. 'I just want to go home.' This isn't the first time that stars of the show have found it hard to navigate their relationship while on the retreat. A man vomited after being told he has to let partner sleep with another man. Couple Tom and Lauren were keen to spice things up a bit in the bedroom and expert Effy Blue told them that they had to experience opening up without each other. It all proved too much for Tom, who rushed to the toilet to be sick after being told what they had to do. After the episode aired, the pair issued a defiant statement as the shocking footage aired on Open House: The Great Sex Experiment. They took to Instagram to open up about their experience on the show with a video of them dancing along to Stormzy's tune Own It. Tom and Lauren captioned the post: 'Thank you everyone for all your support so far, our next episode is out next Friday 10pm, remember please be kind, we went on there to be open & honest and are both very happy together, remember they cut so much out for the drama xxx #openhouse #couple #reel #love #happy #realitytv.'
