Arabella Sunta crowned Kumang Raban Pengelandik Jari
BINTULU (May 6): Arabella Sunta Lankan was crowned as 'Kumang' after besting eight other contestants at the Raban Pengelandik Jari (RPJ) 9th Gawai gathering held here on Saturday.
She also won the 'Best Catwalk' and 'Best Costume' titles, bringing home a cash prize of RM1,500, a crown, a sash, and a trophy.
The title of 'Lulong' (first runner-up) was won by Maskino Mas Mapan, who received RM1,400, a crown, a sash, and a trophy.
Meanwhile, the title of 'Selinggar Matahari' (second runner-up) went to Fravelien Radi, who received RM1,000, a crown, a sash, and a trophy.
The other titles of 'Kumang Photogenic', 'Kumang Multimedia', and 'Pengelandik Jari Pemadu Manah' were won by Magdelena Meili, Beatrizia Nana Zidi, and Venessa Raymond, respectively.
To acknowledge the contribution of handicraft artist, Julius Paul Joseph Lajo received the 'Tokoh RPJ 2025' award.
There was also a prize presentation for the winners of the 'Baju Kuas Iban' making competition, where the first place was won by Devyclay Pius who received RM600 and a trophy; the second place by Victoria Jimmy who received RM500 and a trophy; and the third place by Julia James who won RM400 and a trophy.

'Cooking has always been a passion, and this competition gave me a chance to share my love for Sabahan food,' he said at the prize presentation ceremony at ITCC Mall in Penampang on Sunday. The first runner-up received branded cooking appliances worth RM3,000, while the other five finalists each took home RM1,500 worth of appliances. With the theme 'Honouring the Cooks Behind the Festivities', the event was a vibrant celebration of Sabahan cuisine, featuring local ingredients, passionate home cooks and charitable contributions to uplift communities. Seven finalists, selected after a two-month search across the state, competed under the tagline 'Warisan Citarasa Sabah'. In the first round, they were tasked with creating dishes using a mystery box of local produce, including Jeruk Bambangan — a nod to Sabah's rich culinary heritage. The top three moved on to a taste test challenge, identifying five mystery ingredients. Awang Hisham answered all the five ingredients correctly. MAGGI also marked the occasion with a charitable gesture, donating RM0.10 for every MAGGI product purchased between May 1 and June 30, raising RM15,000 for PACOS Trust Sabah, an NGO empowering women and indigenous communities across the state. Sabah Rural Development Corporation (KPD) chairman Datuk Jannie Lasimbang lauded the company's commitment, saying: 'For over two decades, MAGGI has stood alongside us during Kaamatan. Beyond embracing our culture and heritage, their efforts to uplift local communities are commendable, and I look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership.' MAGGI Malaysia and Singapore Business Executive Officer Ivy Tan Link Cheh said the campaign was about more than food. 'We are honoured to be part of Sabahans' lives and celebrations each year. Through meaningful partnerships, we can help underserved communities move forward while honouring local traditions and cuisine.' This year's celebrations also featured the first-ever East Malaysian stop of the nationwide MAGGI Kari-Lah Roadshow. Visitors experienced five interactive zones inspired by taste, aroma, texture, sound and sight, alongside cooking showcases of Kerabu MAGGI Latok and MAGGI Kari Jeruk Bambangan by MAGGI chefs Sharifah Hamidah Syed Mohsin and Muhammad Hakimi Badrul Hisham. #SHOWBIZ: Jet Li faces criticism for 'stingy' wedding gift to daughter
SINGAPORE: Martial arts legend Jet Li has sparked an online debate after gifting his eldest daughter, Li Si, a 300,000 yuan (RM178,000) car as a wedding dowry. Li announced on Weibo that his 37-year-old daughter, whom he shares with his ex-wife Huang Qiuyan, is getting married. According to a report by Sinchew, the actor made a light-hearted comment about the gift, joking that he hoped she would collect the car soon so she could drive him around whenever he wished. While many fans offered their congratulations, others criticised Li for being "stingy." They pointed out that the dowry seemed modest given his wealth, which is estimated to be in the multibillion-yuan range. However, some defended the star, arguing that personal family matters should not be judged based on financial value. Li married Huang, a former Chinese actress, in 1987, and they had two daughters, Si and Li Taimi. The couple divorced in 1991 after years of living separately. While Huang moved to the US, Li stayed in Asia to focus on his acting career. Following their separation, the children initially lived with their mother but later moved back to Beijing, China, to be cared for by Li's mother, as per an agreement between the ex-couple. In other news, the Beijing-born actor, who became a Singaporean citizen in 2009, expressed his frustration at being occasionally mocked by fellow Singaporeans for his choice of citizenship, as reported by 8Days. "Some people will mock you no matter what you do—'Oh, the Singapore actor is back'," Li said, referring to comments left on his social media. "It's very normal. They just enjoy doing it." The actor stated he was unfazed by these remarks and did not expect everyone to be his fan. He then joked: "There are three people at home who aren't my fans—including my two younger daughters. They hear me talk nonsense at home all the time. There's no way they would want to follow me on social media too. Totally normal." His younger daughters are Jane, 25, and Jada, 22, from his current marriage.
