Social media shapes voter views, says ex-New Sabah Times editor

He noted that beyond traditional campaigning, parties now use social media to connect with voters more directly and effectively.
Advertisement While traditional media still plays a role, Ch'ng said its slower dissemination makes it less impactful compared to the immediacy of social platforms. 'People rely heavily on social media for information today, but they must be cautious about spreading unverified content. Fake and misleading information is a real concern,' he warned. Submit financials first, Prime Minister tells police co-op on aid for debts

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has asked the police cooperative to submit a detailed report on its financial performance before the government considers ways to help it reduce the debts of its subsidiary, Unikop College. Speaking at Koperasi PDRM Bhd's 90th annual general delegates meeting here, Anwar said the government would monitor the cooperative's performance. Advertisement 'I will approve two or three projects for the cooperative. But I want to see a report from the cooperative and the home ministry first. 'We will look at how they can work with the finance ministry to find alternatives and ensure that the cooperative can generate profits,' he added. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said if the cooperative performed with the new projects, the government would consider allowing it to take on more next year. 'But it must prove its efficiency.' He said the government preferred to provide cost-effective projects instead of handing out financial grants. He added that the government could not write off all of Unikop College's debts, but would assess its performance over the next few years. Bukit Aman management department director Azmi Abu Kassim said that Unikop College's debts dated back to 2018, stemming from poor decisions that led to losses and leakage. Rafizi sticks to his guns on Cabinet resignation

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli appears set to follow through with his decision to resign as economy minister, despite Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressing hope that he and another minister who recently quit the Cabinet would reconsider their decisions. In a post on X today, Rafizi reflected on his last day at the ministry, thanking his team of policy officers for their efforts in implementing economic initiatives. Advertisement 'I went into the office for the last time yesterday and today (Friday) to settle final matters, including clearing out my office,' he said. He also said there were some on his team whom he had persuaded to leave their previous careers in order to serve in his office. 'They have been critical in translating my ideas into executable plans. Now, they will return to their respective fields,' he said. Rafizi and natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad submitted their resignation letters on May 28. However, Anwar said yesterday that while he had received the leave applications and resignation letters from the duo, he had only approved their applications to go on leave. Rafizi is on leave until June 16 while Nik Nazmi's leave ends on July 3. Malaysia condemns Israeli strikes on Iran, urges global pressure to halt aggression

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia has called on Israel's partners, especially those with influence and leverage, to apply maximum pressure to halt further aggression in the wake of Israeli military strikes on Iran. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a Facebook post today, strongly condemned the attack, including targeted strikes that have killed senior Iranian leaders, describing it as a grave and reckless act that risks further destabilising the fragile region. Advertisement 'Its clear aim is to sabotage the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran. It also comes amid renewed scrutiny of Israel's conduct in Gaza and mounting political pressure on (Israeli Prime Minister) Benjamin Netanyahu.
