'Tears of joy': Taylor Swift finally gains control of her entire music catalogue

Khaleej Times31-05-2025
Pop superstar Taylor Swift said on Friday she had purchased the master recordings of her first six albums, giving her control of all of her music after a dispute with her former record label.
Swift's masters had been sold in 2019 and the singer said she was not given the opportunity to buy them at the time. She re-recorded four of the albums with the subtitle "Taylor's Version."
Swift purchased the original recordings from current owner Shamrock Capital in what she called her "greatest dream come true." No financial terms were disclosed.
"I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out this is really happening," she said in a statement on her website. "I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made ... now belongs ... to me."
The 'Fortnight' singer also said she had re-recorded her 2006 self-titled debut album and parts of 2017 release 'Reputation'. She said she would release them "when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about."
Swift has won 14 Grammys, including an unprecedented four trophies for album of the year, and recently completed the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.
The 35-year-old singer recorded her first six albums, which included hits such as 'Shake It Off' and 'You Belong With Me', with Big Machine Label Group before leaving in 2018 for Universal Music Group UMG.AS.
Music executive Scooter Braun bought Big Machine in 2019 and Swift publicly accused him of bullying her and refusing to give her a chance to purchase her original recordings. Swift said in 2020 that BMG had sold her music to Shamrock. Media reports at the time said the deal was worth more than $300 million.
Representatives for Braun did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Swift praised executives at Shamrock, founded by Walt Disney's nephew Roy E. Disney, as being "honest, fair and respectful."
"My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead," she joked.

Tenable secures Enterprise AI with its Exposure Management Platform

Tenable®, the exposure management company, recently announced a significant expansion of its market-leading Tenable One platform with the launch of Tenable AI Exposure, a comprehensive solution to see, manage and control the risks introduced by generative AI. Unveiled at Black Hat USA 2025, these new capabilities provide an end-to-end approach that moves beyond discovery to include risk management and policy enforcement for enterprise AI platforms like ChatGPT Enterprise and Microsoft Copilot. As businesses race to adopt generative AI to boost productivity, they are inadvertently creating a new, complex, and often invisible frontier of exposure. Security teams lack visibility into how employees use these powerful tools, which sensitive data might be exposed, and how they could be manipulated by attackers. Tenable now offers a single, unified solution that addresses the entire lifecycle of AI security challenges. 'Simply discovering shadow AI isn't enough. A true exposure management strategy requires an end-to-end solution that lets organisations discover their entire AI footprint, manage the associated risks, and govern its use according to their policies. That's exactly what we are delivering today', said Steve Vintz, Co-CEO and CFO, Tenable. 'With Tenable AI Exposure, we're giving organisations the visibility and control they need to safely embrace the promise of generative AI without introducing unacceptable risk. This is a critical step in the evolution of exposure management'. With an agentless deployment that provides coverage in minutes, Tenable's unified AI Exposure capabilities deliver: Comprehensive AI Discovery: Unifies insights from Tenable AI Aware, scanning from AI Security Posture Management (AI-SPM) and continuous monitoring to discover and identify all sanctioned and unsanctioned AI usage across the enterprise environment. This provides a deep understanding of user interactions, data flows and activities that might introduce risk. Governance and Control of AI Usage: Enforces security guardrails and organisational policies to control how AI is used, preventing risky user behaviours and mitigating novel threats such as prompt injections, jailbreaks, and malicious output manipulation. Tenable AI Exposure integrates into the Tenable One platform, providing a unified view of risk across the entire attack surface. With the combination of Tenable AI Aware, AI-SPM and the new governance features, customers will gain comprehensive capabilities to discover, manage and secure enterprise AI usage. Tenable AI Exposure is now available through a private customer preview program. General availability is expected by the end of 2025. Read more in today's blog post here. ‘Mysterious institution' buys almost $1B worth of Ether in week

An unidentified entity has been accumulating Ether aggressively over the past week, buying 221,166 ETH as the asset rallied by 21%. In the past 24 hours alone, the 'mysterious institution' bought $212 million of Ether, according to data analytics platform Lookonchain. The whale tracker said the entity is using six different wallets to store its Ether, which it acquired from Galaxy Digital, FalconX and BitGo. The wallet with the most Ether has $181 million worth, while the wallet with the least Ether has $128 million worth. The buying comes as Ether addresses with over 10,000 ETH in holdings reached 868,886 on Saturday, the highest it's been in a year, according to Glassnode. Ethereum market cap overtakes Mastercard It came as Ethereum's market capitalization soared to $523 billion on Monday, boosted by a 21% rally in Ether over the past seven days to cross the $4,000 milestone. It was trading at $4,332 at publication. Ether's market cap overtook payments giant Mastercard, which currently has a market capitalization of $519 billion, according to CompaniesMarketCap. More than 304,000 ETH, worth over $1.3 billion, was added by publicly traded companies that have Ether treasuries in the past week, CoinGecko reported on Saturday. BitMine Immersion Technologies bought the lion's share of ETH, as the company bought more than 208,000 ETH, worth more than $900 million, in the past week, which was followed by SharpLink Gaming buying $303 million worth of Ether. Analysts bullish on ETH's price action Technical analysts have also turned bullish on Ether, with some predicting that the asset might reach as high as the $20,000 mark for the first time in the coming months. Analyst Nilesh Verma said that ETH can hit the $20,000 milestone in the next six to eight months based on historical price fractals. Meanwhile, Merlijn The Trader, a technical analyst, predicted that the asset might surpass $20,000 and may even go beyond that mark. On the flip side, some industry experts are cautioning investors. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin supported companies that are buying Ether to hold in their respective treasuries; however, he cautioned that it should not turn into an 'overleveraged game,' which could lead to the downfall of the asset.
