Magneto's Daughter has been Cast in Avengers: Doomsday

Geek Feed19-05-2025

Anyone who is updated in their Marvel comic lore knows that Magneto had children, and while Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have been in the spotlight since Age of Ultron , there is one other offspring of Erik Magnus that may actually appear in Avengers: Doomsday .
According to @AlexFromCC (via @cosmic_marvel) Polaris is going to be appearing Doomsday , and she's going to be played by Neve Campbell ( Scream franchise). No details have been revealed about the size of her role, but it's possible that she could be the daughter of Ian McKellen's Magneto—who has been confirmed for the movie already.
In the comics, Polaris is the only child of Magneto to actually have his magnetic powers. She has been a member of the X-Men and X-Factor, and she has a kind of on-and-off relationship with Alex Summers a.k.a. Havok.
Polaris has had appearances in animated X-Men media, but she had a live-action appearance in The Gifted where she was played by Emma Dumont. We don't know how Polaris will be tackled in Doomsday , but it's possible that she could be one of the more seasoned X-Men, counting Campbell's age and relationship with an existing character.
Though there are a lot of legacy characters in Doomsday like Nightcrawler and Mystique, I am hopeful that we could see some other characters be able to shine. I have always been against the nostalgia-baiting angle that Marvel has been going through recently, but if they're going all-in with these Avengers movies, they may as well go crazy.
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.

The Last Jedi Director's Rian Johnson had Advice for Natasha Lyonne

Natasha Lyonne as a public figure is generally well-liked, but she did get backlash when it was reported that she was going to use AI to direct her first film. Seeing that AI has become such a touchy topic online, Lyonne was met with a lot of backlash, to which she had some advice from Poker Face director Rian Johnson, who faced the wrath of the Star Wars fandom back in 2017 when The Last Jedi came out. Talking to Variety, Johnson says that his advice to Lyonne was simple: 'shut off the noise and just make things.' Johnson says: '… Any great art, during the process of making it, is going to seem like a terrible idea that will never work… Anything great is created in a bubble. If it weren't, it would never make it past the gestation period.' As for Lyonne's project, she wants to clarify that it's not a 'generative AI movie' and that AI will be used like a 'tool' for things like set extensions. There is also an emphasis that the material used for the AI will be copyright-cleared and 'ethical'. When it comes to backlash, it does feel like Lyonne is trying to take it easy. She says about being in the backlash hole , 'I've never been inside of one of those before… It's scary in there, if anyone's wondering. It's not fun when people say not nice things to you. It grows you up a bit.' We don't know when Lyonne's movie is coming out, but you can catch her in Poker Face Season 2 now streaming on Peacock.

Natasha Lyonne: How Poker Face Scared Execs and Championed Feminism

Besides the third Knives Out movie, Rian Johnson is currently in the middle of the second season of Poker Face which stars Natasha Lyonne was a non-detective who can tell whenever someone is lying. The show has managed to attract a number of stars and is getting rave reviews, and Lyonne says that the series originally scared several execs with the concept. Talking to Variety, she explains: 'I was doing backflips when I read it… I expected all the networks to feel the same, but a lot of people were scared by the idea that it wouldn't be a completely serialized storyline. You know, Charlie Cale goes back into her childhood and tries to find a husband while she's solving cases.' If anything, the fact that Charlie is a woman on the run who isn't tied down by a husband or boyfriend is what Lyonne considers a feminist theme for the series. 'For a female character to be led by a philosophical concept, or an ethical soul journey, is a really bold act by one of our greatest living auteurs (i.e., show creator Rian Johnson), who happens to be a guy,' says Lyonne. Admittedly, Poker Face does fall into this weird new web that Johnson has with the 'whodunnit' genre that also includes the Knives Out films; though Poker Face does have a different format in that the murders are revealed, but the real excitement is watching Charlie figure out how to catch the real perpetrators. The second season is still ongoing, and after that, audiences will be primed for Johnson's project with Netflix, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. For now, you can watch out for the second season of Poker Face now streaming on Peacock.

Winds of Winter: Fans are Worried about George R.R. Martin After Recent Blog Rant

It's no mystery that author George R.R. Martin hasn't delivered Winds of Winter or Dream of Spring in time, and for now it feels like the general consensus is to just stop bothering Martin and leave him alone to his own devices until he finishes whatever he's working on. The thing is, Martin does like to update on his blog about other projects that he has going on the side, and whenever he does this, he's usually met with people who are constantly badgering him about A Song of Ice and Fire . Now thanks to a recent blog post, Martin goes on kind of a rant talking about how he won't be able to finish the books. He writes: 'I know, I know. Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or THE WINDS OF WINTER . You have given up on me, or on the book. I will never finish WINDS, If I do, I will never finish A DREAM OF SPRING. If I do, it won't be any good. I ought to get some other writer to pinch hit for me… I am going to die soon anyway, because I am so old. I lost all interest in A Song of Ice and Fire decades ago. I don't give a shit about writing any longer, I just sit around and spend my money.' Martin then goes on to talk about his other projects like Wild Cards and his other projects and how fans don't like them and only care about Winds of Winter. He then caps it off with: ' Thing is, I do care about them. And I care about Westeros and WINDS as well. The Starks and Lannisters and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and the direwolves, I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine.' While it can be chalked to Martin just making a sarcastic rant about the status of Winds and how everyone has been treating him, some are actually worried that Martin may be in a bad place right now when it comes to writing. @devanthedoppler replied, 'Jesis, sounds like he's really not in a good headspace right now.' This is pretty dark. I hope George is doing ok. We love you!!!! @GRRMspeaking — GameofThrones Quotes (@ASOIAFQuotesGOT) May 28, 2025 While there are some that are sympathetic to Martin, there are of course the people that Martin has been writing about who are saying that he has no right to complain since he's taking this much time. For now, we'll just have to wait and see what happens. If anything, a lot are convinced that the ending of Game of Thrones was Martin's intended ending; the problem is just that he doesn't know how to get there organically. I'm still rooting for Martin to finish the books, but at this point, maybe he should just get someone to help him write. Whatever gets it out of the way, you know?
