The weekend begins on a sunny note with a second straight day of little or no cloud coverage.
And while we're headed for a period of much warmer weather overall, another lake-enhanced cold front will briefly interrupt the warmth Saturday afternoon.
Highs are likely to reach the 70s for many locations, even the low 80s far south/southwest suburbs, but the winds will shift to the northeast and strengthen during the afternoon, gusting to near 30 mph at times, sending the mercury plummeting again.
Saturday will be a good day to leave the boat docked at the harbor. As the lake-enhanced cold front slides down the length of Lake Michigan, winds will increase from the north 15-30 mph, gusting even higher at times.
As a result, waves will increase to 6+ feet during the afternoon prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Small Craft Advisory.

Summer heat builds: 90s possible across Colorado next weekend

A cool front swept across the Colorado plains early Sunday, ushering in slightly cooler temperatures for the second half of the weekend. Sunday afternoon thunderstorms could pop up primarily along the foothills, I-25 corridor, and Palmer Divide, with isolated severe storms possible—featuring gusty winds and hail up to the size of golf balls. CBS Sunday highs will top out in the low to mid-70s across the plains and mountain valleys, with conditions drying out by late evening. CBS The start of the workweek remains unsettled with a small chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially along and south of I-70. While severe weather isn't expected, some storms could still produce lightning, gusty winds up to 40 mph, and small hail. CBS By Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure begins to build, gradually drying out the atmosphere and lifting temperatures. Temperatures soar into the mid-80s by midweek across the plains, with 70s in the mountains. All eyes are on next weekend, when Colorado may experience its first widespread push into the 90s.

Storm Center AM Update: Mainly Quiet into Monday; Warmth to Return

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — While most of the day is shaping up to be mainly quiet (Beyond one exception that we'll get to in a moment), we'll also have to contend with smoky skies once again. Smoke from Canadian wildfires will travel along the jet stream and move into the Northern Plains. Those of you with respiratory problems will need to keep this in mind, as air quality concerns will be in place. Visibility may be less than ideal at times as well. Like I mentioned earlier, much of the day is mainly quiet…but the exception is to the northeast. Some scattered showers and maybe an isolated rumble of thunder or two will be possible as a little impulse of energy sweeps in from north to south. While coverage is sparse, it'll be something to consider if you have outdoor plans. A few of these sprinkles may try to head into southeastern KELOLAND, but that will be the exception to the rule. Monday and Tuesday are shaping up to be mainly quiet days beyond a few isolated showers here and there across portions of the region. Better chances for rain arrive as we head into the second half of the week. With heat building, we'll have a little more fuel to work with for pop-up showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday through Friday. While the overall severe threat is pretty low here, it'll still be something to consider if you have outdoor plans in the second half of the week. We'll dry to dry out as we head into the weekend. All the while, that heat that I mentioned sticks around. Widespread 80s with a few 90s are possible from Tuesday through the end of the week, so plan accordingly.
