James Gunn Says There Is ‘Zero Truth' to Warner Bros. Making Him Shorten ‘Superman' Runtime: ‘They Couldn't Even if That's Something That They Wanted'

James Gunn is setting the record straight on the 'Superman' runtime.
On Instagram Threads, a user reached out to the DC Studios head to ask if the run time of two hours and nine minutes was accurate. Gunn responded, stating that the rumored time was dead on.

'Inclusive of credits/post credits the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes,' Gunn replied.
Gunn was then asked about another rumored topic: Whether or not Warner Bros. had asked him to shorten the film. Gunn once again weighed in.
'Zero truth to that,' he wrote. 'And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to [do]. It's a DC Studios film.'
Previously titled 'Superman: Legacy,' 'Superman' is written and directed by Gunn. David Corenswet stars as the titular Man of Steel opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult plays the film's villain, the megalomaniac super-genius Lex Luthor. Other members of the cast include Skyler Gisondo as journalist Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as the Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Gunn's directorial debut as head of DC Studios is the first solo Superman film in over a decade. The last movie centering around the Son of Krypton was Zack Snyder's 2013 'Man of Steel,' which went on to gross $670 million at the worldwide box office. That film kicked off a DC-connected universe, which included films like 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' 'Wonder Woman,' 'Suicide Squad' and 'The Flash.' The timeline ended with 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' in December 2023.
'Superman' hits theaters July 11.

Is CGI-Heavy Big Bang Theory Spinoff Poised to Be a Superhero Satire?

The latest Big Bang Theory universe expansion has the potential to look and feel unlike any offshoot that came before it — and based on several clues, I'm beginning to think it will. Whereas Young Sheldon served as a prequel chronicling Sheldon Cooper's childhood, and sequel-to-the-prequel Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has continued that story but shifted focus to Sheldon's older brother and sister-in-law, HBO Max's Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will serve as a direct continuation, and pick up after the events of Big Bang's 2019 series finale. More from TVLine Mayim Bialik Talks Reuniting With Melissa Rauch on Night Court and the Possibility of Reprising Amy on New Big Bang Theory Spinoff Big Bang Theory Spinoff Cast Unites for First Table Read in New Photos — Here's Everything We Know So Far And Just Like That EP Talks Working With Season 3's Top Scene Stealer: Carrie's Cat As previously reported, Kevin Sussman (aka Stuart) will be joined on the show by fellow franchise vets Lauren Lapkus (Denise), Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler) and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) — a quartet that, with the exception of Sussman and Lapkus, rarely (if ever) interacted. And while plot details remain under wraps, we do know that Season 1 has already been written ahead of an official series order, and screenwriter Zak Penn — whose myriad credits include The Avengers, Ready Player One and Free Guy — wrote all 10 episodes with original series co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. Earlier this week, Lorre let slip that Stuart Fails… will feature 'a lot of CGI' — and that piece of intel, combined with the prospective series' title, leads me to believe that this new show won't be rooted in reality, per se. Instead, it will see the perpetually down-on-his-luck comic book store owner conceive of his own graphic novel centered on a B-team Justice League — a motley crew of underestimated superheroes who look a lot like Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke, and who all have started to believe what everyone else thinks of them: that they're incapable of greatness. But all that will change once the future of humanity is called into question by an otherworldly threat, and the actual Justice League is preoccupied/unable to save the day. And perhaps Stuart will narrate, borrowing a narrative device from Young Sheldon (whose series finale revealed that Dr. Cooper was recounting his East Texas upbringing as part of his memoir). So, that's my working (Big Bang) theory! TVLine will keep you posted as we learn more about Stuart Fails to Save the Universe — and whether my prediction is right. IRONHEART Actress Dominique Thorne Says in Light of Robert Downey Jr.'s Approval of Her Character, Fans Should "Get on the Bandwagon" — GeekTyrant

Ironheart actress Dominique Thorne made her Marvel debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and the character filled a bit of a void left by Tony Stark when he was ultimately sacrificed in Avengers: Endgame (2019). The parallels are obvious, with the pair each being tech geniuses who have the capability to create highly advanced robotics to help serve the good guys in the fight against evil. While Thorne's return to the MCU has been drawn out, we will see her return to play the lead in the Ironheart series, out later this month, and she teased a possible appearance in the upcoming Avengers films. In a recent interview with The Direct, Thorne was asked if we could expect to see her in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars . She responded, coyly, "Oh, you know, what can I say? The odds might be in our favor. Who knows? We'll see. We'll see." For fans who have not yet embraced her character, Thorne threw around the fact that Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. himself has endorsed her, saying: "I would say get on the bandwagon. It's here. We're here... I mean, Tony's on the bandwagon, so you know, what's the problem? RDJ is here. It's nice here. It's cute here. It's comfy here. It smells good here." She also teased Riri's abilities in the upcoming series, stating, "I think we've got little tastes and teases of that previously. Throughout, you know, the phases that have led us here. But this, absolutely, to me, feels like new territory in terms of how tech and magic can merge, how they can work together, how they might clash. 'It's fun, it's exciting, it's dangerous, it's risky. It's all the things that you might expect. So, yeah, just another reason to lean in and see where this takes us in the broader context of the MCU." Ironheart will kick off with its first three episodes streaming on Disney+ on June 24, 2025, with three more episodes dropping weekly.
