James Gunn Says There Is ‘Zero Truth' to Warner Bros. Making Him Shorten ‘Superman' Runtime: ‘They Couldn't Even if That's Something That They Wanted'
James Gunn is setting the record straight on the 'Superman' runtime.
On Instagram Threads, a user reached out to the DC Studios head to ask if the run time of two hours and nine minutes was accurate. Gunn responded, stating that the rumored time was dead on.

'Inclusive of credits/post credits the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes,' Gunn replied.
Gunn was then asked about another rumored topic: Whether or not Warner Bros. had asked him to shorten the film. Gunn once again weighed in.
'Zero truth to that,' he wrote. 'And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to [do]. It's a DC Studios film.'
Previously titled 'Superman: Legacy,' 'Superman' is written and directed by Gunn. David Corenswet stars as the titular Man of Steel opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult plays the film's villain, the megalomaniac super-genius Lex Luthor. Other members of the cast include Skyler Gisondo as journalist Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as the Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Gunn's directorial debut as head of DC Studios is the first solo Superman film in over a decade. The last movie centering around the Son of Krypton was Zack Snyder's 2013 'Man of Steel,' which went on to gross $670 million at the worldwide box office. That film kicked off a DC-connected universe, which included films like 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' 'Wonder Woman,' 'Suicide Squad' and 'The Flash.' The timeline ended with 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' in December 2023.
'Superman' hits theaters July 11.

The latest Big Bang Theory universe expansion has the potential to look and feel unlike any offshoot that came before it — and based on several clues, I'm beginning to think it will. Whereas Young Sheldon served as a prequel chronicling Sheldon Cooper's childhood, and sequel-to-the-prequel Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has continued that story but shifted focus to Sheldon's older brother and sister-in-law, HBO Max's Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will serve as a direct continuation, and pick up after the events of Big Bang's 2019 series finale. Ironheart actress Dominique Thorne made her Marvel debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and the character filled a bit of a void left by Tony Stark when he was ultimately sacrificed in Avengers: Endgame (2019). The parallels are obvious, with the pair each being tech geniuses who have the capability to create highly advanced robotics to help serve the good guys in the fight against evil. While Thorne's return to the MCU has been drawn out, we will see her return to play the lead in the Ironheart series, out later this month, and she teased a possible appearance in the upcoming Avengers films. In a recent interview with The Direct, Thorne was asked if we could expect to see her in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars . She responded, coyly, "Oh, you know, what can I say? The odds might be in our favor. Who knows? We'll see. We'll see." For fans who have not yet embraced her character, Thorne threw around the fact that Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. himself has endorsed her, saying: "I would say get on the bandwagon. It's here.
