Cork's left-wing policy proving fruitful in three-in-a-row bid
Cork's left wing is the most feared in the country with both players set to play a huge role as their team bid for a first three-in-a-row since 1972.
Hayes at left half-back, and McCarthy, ahead of her at left half-forward, shared 62 involvements over the 60 minutes of Cork's 1-21 to 1-11 win over Waterford two weeks ago. They were involved in most of the good things their team did - scoring, creating, breaking lines, carrying hard into space, passing long and short, battling for possession and tackling back.
Inspiring all around them from the left flank, even as Cork struggled in the first half, they alone scored or assisted 0-07 of 0-09.
Over the entire contest, they accounted for 0-12 in scores and direct assists - scoring eight points between them and with four more assisted - as well as one of them having an involvement in a further four points. In total, the left-wing duo were involved in 24 scoring chances as their team reached a fifth consecutive All-Ireland final.

Galway's Ailish O'Reilly: All we heard all week was the three-in-a-row
Ailish O'Reilly said underdogs Galway were inspired to the All-Ireland senior camogie title by the hype surrounding Cork's three-in-a-row bid. The Rebels came in as hot favourites to land a first treble in 52 years but were pipped by a point at Croke Park, Carrie Dolan landing a decisive 63rd-minute free after an Orlaith Cahalane goal looked to have rescued a replay for the 14 women in red. "That is sweet," O'Reilly told The Sunday Game immediately afterwards. "When they got the goal, and to respond the way Carrie did, it shows a lot about this time after we were written off so much. "All we heard all week was 'the three-in-a-row, the three-in-a-row'. We were there to take it off them. And I think we proved a lot of people wrong. "It suited us down to the ground. All the talk was about Cork, it felt like we were just coming up to show up and they were just going to be handed the trophy "We kept it in ourselves the last week but we were so riled up to be honest." Galway full-forward Ailish O'Reilly speaks to Valerie as the Tribeswomen celebrate their All-Ireland triumph Watch on @rte2 and @rteplayer #SundayGame — The Sunday Game (@TheSundayGame) August 10, 2025 It's a fourth All-Ireland medal for the Oranmore/Maree club woman, following on from 2013, '19 and 2021. She has been present for 80% of Galway's senior camogie titles. "I'm so happy," she said. "My granny is at home watching, so this is for her. "Maybe I didn't have a great last year or two. So to do this and help the team… "It's a team victory. I could not be prouder of all the girls out there. To Cathal [Murray, manager], and all the management team, it's for them. "And it's to show any team that anything can happen in a final. "Block out all the noise and comments. Once you believe within your own group… and they instilled that belief in us." After lifting the O'Duffy Cup, captain and matchwinner Dolan added her praise for the team's coaches, calling them "the four wise men". "Ye challenged us to reach new levels and become a better team than we were 12 months ago. And for that, I can't thank you enough. "Cathal Murray, I want to thank you for your loyalty to this group but also to Galway camogie since you became manager in 2018. "When you were re-appointed this year, I read someone say 'Fat chance of the O'Duffy coming west with Murray in charge'. Well, not only have you delivered one All-Ireland cup for Galway camogie, you've delivered two (the senior title and the Under-23 title). "This group had lost three out of the last four finals between league and championship. But you [the supporters] have come up the road every day to support this group, and I can't wait to celebrate with you all tomorrow night. "To every young boy and girl out there with a hurl in their hands, go after your dream. Today, 39 girls had a dream of winning the All-Ireland. Today that dream came true."

Pakistan beat Ireland by eight wickets in last match of victorious T20 series
Muneeba Ali hit an unbeaten century to see her side to a consolation win with 14 balls to spare but the Girls in Green only have themselves to blame as they dropped the opener three times. Choosing to bat, Gaby Lewis got the Ireland innings off to a flyer with 36 from 22 balls before she was sawn off by a poor lbw decision and with Amy Hunter on her way to 29 the home side were well placed on 79-1 at the halfway stage. As is so often the case, the solid platform didn't lead to a score that put the game beyond the opposition — despite Prendergast batting through the last 10 overs — and a total of 155-4 was barely better than par. Take nothing away from Prendergast's 64 not out from 46 balls, with eight fours, but the devastating top gear and acceleration that she has to her game proved elusive for once.. The Pembroke all-rounder remained defiant, though, with a cheeky nod to the progress Ireland are making as she received her award. 'There is still a sense that we 'shock' these higher-ranked reams when we beat them and I'd like to know how many times we have to beat them before it isn't a shock any more,' she said. 'I think we've shown in this series how good a team we are and although we were off the mark today we need more and more games like this.' The 2-1 series win will put Ireland in good heart going into the European qualifiers for the T20 World Cup, which start in Rotterdam on August 21.
