MIAMI (Reuters) -Argentina and AS Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes has accepted an offer to join Boca Juniors next season, an official at the top-tier Argentine club told Reuters on Thursday.
The 30-year-old Paredes has a clause in his Roma contract that allows him to leave the Serie A club for $3.5 million.
"Now he must execute the clause," the Argentine club source told Reuters.
A World Cup winner with Argentina, Paredes began his career at Boca in 2010, before his first stint with Roma in 2014. He also played for Empoli, Zenit St Petersburg, Paris St Germain and Juventus.
Boca are planning a major overhaul following a disappointing season in which they crashed out in the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores and failed to make it out of the group stage at the Club World Cup.

Soccer-Euro 2025 a 'fresh start' for youthful England, says James

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Women's International Friendly - England Training - St. George's Park, Burton upon Trent, Britain - June 23, 2025 England's Lauren James during training Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Boyers/File Photo (Reuters) -The Women's Euro 2025 campaign will be more like a fresh start than a title defence for England with the team full of young players looking to prove themselves on the big sage, forward Lauren James said. James, who made her senior international debut just over a month after England won the European title in 2022, has recovered from the hamstring injury which sidelined her since April in time for next month's continental campaign. "A fresh start, a bit like a new era ... hungry girls wanting to do well," the 23-year-old told The Guardian. 'It's not really about defending a title because it's a completely different team. This team's got a lot of youth in it and this will be some people's first big tournament," added James, who has scored seven goals in 27 appearances for England. England begin their Group D campaign against France on July 5, followed by games against Netherlands and Wales. The tournament runs from July 2-27. Argentina midfielder Paredes set to join Boca Juniors from Roma

ARGENTINA and AS Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes has accepted an offer to join Boca Juniors next season, an official at the top-tier Argentine club told Reuters on Thursday. The 30-year-old Paredes has a clause in his Roma contract that allows him to leave the Serie A club for $3.5 million. 'Now he must execute the clause,' the Argentine club source told Reuters. ARGENTINA midfielder Leandro Paredes is set to return to Boca Juniors after accepting an offer from the Argentine club, a Boca official confirmed to Reuters on Thursday. The 30-year-old, currently with AS Roma, has a release clause of $3.5 million in his contract. 'Now he must execute the clause,' the Boca official said. Paredes, a key figure in Argentina's 2022 World Cup triumph, began his professional career at Boca in 2010 before moving to Roma in 2014. His career also includes spells at Empoli, Zenit St Petersburg, Paris St Germain, and Juventus. Boca Juniors are undergoing a squad revamp after a lackluster season, which saw them exit early in the Copa Libertadores and fail to progress past the group stage in the Club World Cup. Paredes' return is expected to bolster the team's midfield as they aim for a stronger campaign next season.

Soccer-Inzaghi proud as Al-Hilal join 'the best' in Club World Cup knockout stage

FILE PHOTO: Jun 22, 2025; Washington, District of Columbia, USA; Al Hilal FC head coach Simone Inzaghi watches play against FC Salzburg in the first half during a group stage match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup at Audi Field. Mandatory Credit: Amber Searls-Imagn Images/File Photo (Reuters) -Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal became the only Asian side to reach the Club World Cup's knockout stages with a 2-0 win over Pachuca on Thursday, finishing their Group H campaign unbeaten and setting up a round-of-16 meeting with Manchester City. Al-Hilal showed they could compete with the best teams in the world when they held Real Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg to draws in their first two games under new coach Simone Inzaghi. They have conceded just one goal in their three matches, sharing the best defensive record of the group stage with Paris St Germain and Monterrey. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Al-Hilal, majority owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, have signed a string of world-class players over the last two years including Neymar, Malcom, Ruben Neves, Marcos Leonardo and Aleksandar Mitrovic. Although Neymar has left the club and Mitrovic remains sidelined with a calf injury, the depth of the squad has allowed Al-Hilal to weather the pressure of the big stage. KEY QUOTES Al-Hilal coach Simone Inzaghi: "Our goal was to achieve (being in) the group of the best teams in the world. "It was not an easy task, but the team was well united. It fought during the three games for a great objective ... we were not coming here just to have fun, we were coming here to play a World Cup and we wanted to reach this stage. "Now we'll have to play against Manchester City ... it's one of the greatest teams in the world. These are the games where you can improve and you can mature as a team, so I'm very proud."
