Portable sauna units worth roughly $75K stolen from owner's lot in Winnipeg
The mobile saunas, made out of cedar and resembling the shape of a barrel, were picked by a black Dodge Ram, which then drove away from the lot on Archibald Street, Amir Hamed, owner of the Backyard Barrel business, told CBC News.
The theft lasted a number of hours with the first barrel seen towed on surveillance footage at around 11 p.m. Friday and the last just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, Hamed said.
"I honestly never thought they would get stolen, we even had the wheel locks on them … the back doors were locked," he said.
"It's really unfortunate, but we're trying to make the best of it," Hamed said. "They're each worth $25,000, so we have $75,000 roughly missing."
Winnipeg police said they received a report about the incident which will be referred to the property crimes unit for a follow-up investigation.
The Backyard Barrel business operates five mobile units and Hamed said the two that weren't stolen had been rented out.
Hamed had been trying to sell the business to spend more time with his family. He managed to secure a buyer but the deal fell through on Friday and hours later the three mobile units were stolen from his property.
While he doesn't think the sale is related to the theft, both happening on the same day is "a lot of stuff to deal with."
He is afraid the saunas will be torn apart and sold in pieces. But he remains hopeful the units can be recovered without major damages before September when the demand for mobile units starts to soar as temperature begins to drop.
"This is our livelihood and it's going to impact selling it drastically," Hamed said.
He is encouraging people to keep an eye for the units, in case they are listed for sale online. They are trademarked and have a tin roof, a wooden stove and a panoramic window.

DHL moves early to renew Cargojet contract until 2033
Canadian airline Cargojet has extended its long-term transport agreement with integrated carrier DHL Express until March 31, 2033, and reduced DHL's potential ownership stake in the company from 9.5% to 6.6% in exchange for renewing the deal two years before it expired, the companies announced Wednesday. The revised freight services contract is projected to deliver $2.3 billion in revenue for Cargojet. DHL has the right to extend the agreement two times for two-year terms, potentially stretching the deal until March 2037. Cargojet was scheduled to release second-quarter results Wednesday after the stock market closed, but had not done so as of 7 p.m. ET. In early July, Cargojet extended its contract with Amazon for four years. The contract now runs until March 31, 2029. Cargojet began flying in DHL's express package network in 2005. It now provides bundled lease packages that include aircraft, crews and mechanics to fly freight; crew and maintenance in cases where DHL provides its own freighter aircraft; and charter service for short-term capacity needs. Cargojet has a fleet of more than 40 Boeing 767 and 757 freighters. Some of DHL's volume moves in Cargojet's domestic Canadian overnight network in which capacity is shared by various customers. Cargojet's current contract with DHL was signed in March 2022 and was scheduled to run five years. The companies cemented their partnership with the issuance of warrants giving DHL 9.5% of Cargojet shares after a seven-year vesting period. Under the expanded partnership, DHL will continue to guarantee a minimum amount of paid flight hours per month and give Cargojet preference to fly additional routes as it adjusts its global network to meet shipping demand. Cargojet will also terminate the warrants to acquire more than 1.6 million voting shares and instead issue warrants giving DHL the right to acquire 1 million shares at a price of $67.90 per share over a period of eight years, with vesting tied to DHL delivering up to $3.2 billion in business volume during the period. Capex and Hedge Update Production in the second quarter was consistent with the first quarter and down from the same quarter last year primarily due to natural production declines and temporary shut-ins due to weak AECO gas prices in June 2025. Capital expenditures of $2.3 million in the second quarter were limited to facilities and maintenance spendings, bringing total capital expenditures to $3.6 million in the first half of 2025. The 2025 capital budget of $23.5 million is unchanged, which includes $12.5 million of development spending. Pine Cliff continues to use physical hedging as part of its ongoing marketing strategy to help protect cash flow, resulting in an average realized natural gas price of C$2.48/Mcf in the second quarter, representing a 48% premium to the AECO Daily 5A average price of C$1.68/Mcf. In recent months, Pine Cliff has increased its hedge position to approximately 54% of gross natural gas production6 at an average price of $2.82/Mcf through the second half of 2025. Approximately 43% of gross crude oil production7 has been hedged at US$64.15/Bbl for the same period. Natural gas liquids and oil volumes are recorded in barrels of oil ("Bbl") and are converted to a thousand cubic feet equivalent ("Mcfe") using a ratio of one (1) Bbl to six (6) thousand cubic feet. Natural gas volumes recorded in thousand cubic feet ("Mcf") are converted to barrels of oil equivalent ("Boe") using the ratio of six (6) thousand cubic feet to one (1) Bbl. This conversion ratio is based on energy equivalence primarily at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead. The terms Boe or Mcfe may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation. Given that the value ratio based on the current price of crude oil as compared to natural gas is significantly different from the energy equivalency of oil, utilizing a conversion on a 6:1 basis may be misleading as an indication of value. The forward-looking information contained in this news release is expressly qualified by this cautionary statement. NON-GAAP Measures This press release uses the terms "adjusted funds flow", "free funds flow", "operating netbacks", "corporate netbacks" and "positive net cash/net debt" which are not recognized under International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS") and may not be comparable to similar measures presented by other companies. These measures should not be considered as an alternative to, or more meaningful than, IFRS measures including net income (loss), cash provided by operating activities, or total liabilities. The Company uses these measures to evaluate its performance, leverage and liquidity. Adjusted funds flow is a non-Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("non-GAAP") measure that represents the total of funds provided by operating activities, before adjusting for changes in non-cash working capital, and decommissioning obligations settled. Positive net cash/net debt is a non-GAAP measure calculated as the sum of accounts receivables, cash, and prepaid expenses and deposits, less accounts payables and accrued liabilities, and debt. Operating netback is a non-GAAP measure calculated as the Company's total revenue, less royalties, net operating expenses and transportation expenses, divided by the Boe production of the Company. Corporate netback is a non-GAAP measure calculated as the Company's operating netback, less G&A and interest expense, divided by the Boe production of the Company. Please refer to the Annual Report for additional details regarding non-GAAP measures and their calculation. The TSX does not accept responsibility for the accuracy of this release.
