Jess Fox wins women's canoe final at World Cup event in France
Three-time Olympic champion Jess Fox has won gold at the latest leg of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup circuit in Pau, France.
Fox claimed victory in the women's canoe final, a week after topping the podium at the World Cup event in La Seu, Spain.
The Australian qualified fifth for the final in Pau, but dominated the medal round, despite attracting a time penalty.
Fox (107.62) was victorious ahead of Czech Gabriela Satková (110.89) and France's Angèle Hug (111.69).
"I didn't expect it would be that good because I had a penalty," Fox said.
"But it felt really powerful and I gave it everything.
"My arms are pounding right now, but really proud and so happy."
Fox, who turned 31 earlier in the week, did not qualify for the women's kayak final.
Her main focus this year is the World Championships, which will be held on her home course in Penrith in October.

The 47-year-old had previously coached AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Marseille, among others. As a player, Gattuso also won two league titles and two Champions League trophies with Milan, where he made 468 appearances and scored 11 goals. His only goal in 73 appearances for Italy was a fierce 25-metre strike against England in a 1-0 win in November 2000. But Gattuso's only trophy as a coach was the Italian Cup with Napoli in 2010. Italy are already nine points behind Norway in their World Cup qualifying group, albeit having played two matches fewer than the group leader. The Azzurri followed up that dismal opening loss with a 2-0 win over minnows Moldova last Monday in what was Spalletti's final match in charge. He had revealed that he was being fired the previous day. Gattuso's first match as Italy coach will be at home to Estonia on September 5. Israel are also in five-team group I. Italy host Norway in the final round on November 16. Only the group winners advance directly to the 2026 tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. In the closing seconds of the Warriors' 46-22 win a frustrated Smalley lost his head, charging out of the line and flooring the young fullback. But rugby league commentator Sam Hewat was disgusted by what he witnessed. 'Absolute dog shot here to the head of Taine Tuaupiki in NSW Cup. ZERO leeway for this in our game. 10 seconds to go in the match, down by 22 points, and you fly inside two of your own defenders to try and take a guy's head off,' he wrote on X. 'Justifiably sent off in the game but should get more.' And fans were equally outraged. 'That's beyond disgraceful. He should have the book thrown at him,' one fan wrote. 'That's a total disgrace,' another added. 'That's disgusting,' a third wrote. Fortunately, Tuaupiki recovered enough from the incident to be cleared to board the plane home to Auckland on Saturday night.
