Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on the Yunus government and said that those who 'habitually threaten' India on the 'chicken neck corridor', should note that Bangladesh has two such narrow strips of land which are 'far more vulnerable'.
Sarma in a post on X said, 'To those who habitually threaten India on the 'Chicken Neck Corridor', should note these facts as well: Bangladesh has two of its own 'chicken necks'. Both are far more vulnerable. First is the 80 km North Bangladesh Corridor- from Dakhin Dinajpur to South West Garo Hills. Any disruption here, can completely isolate the entire Rangpur division from rest of Bangladesh.'
'Second is the 28 km Chittagong Corridor, from South Tripura till the Bay of Bengal. This corridor, smaller than India's chicken neck, is the only link between Bangladesh's economic capital and political capital,' he also posted on X.
It is important to note that India's chicken's neck, known as the Siliguri corridor, is a narrow strip of land, measuring around 22 km-35 km in width, that connects the northeast region with the rest of India.
For the neighbouring country, disruption in one of these 'chicken necks' will cut off the link between its economic and political capitals, and disruption in the other will isolate the entire Rangpur division from the rest of the country, Sarma claimed.
हमें याद रखना चाहिए कि बांग्लादेश का भी अपना Chicken Neck है: मेघालय से चिट्टागोंग तक।
No country should be under the impression that it can take over the Chicken's Neck. The World has seen India's military prowess during #OperationSindooor.#PressConferenceHighlights pic.twitter.com/eqP3iJlA8m

'I am only presenting geographical facts that some may tend to forget. Just like India's Siliguri Corridor, our neighbouring country is also embedded with two narrow corridors of theirs,' the chief minister added.

Turkey gets more punishment for supporting Pakistan as India cancels major deal with..., Modi govt teaching Erdogan lesson by...

(File) India Turkey relations: In another major move to punish Turkey for supporting Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan conflict, Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cancelled a major deal to to procure robotic lifebuoys from a Turkish robotics firm. Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani Monday said the Mumbai civic body has scrapped its plan to procure robotic lifebuoys manufactured in Turkey. The robotic lifebuoys, remotely-operated rescue machines designed to assist lifeguards in saving people from drowning, were to be deployed at the Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa and Gorai beaches in Mumbai, the BMC said, according to news agency PTI. Equipped with dual water jets powered by a 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery, each robotic lifebuoy unit had the load capacity of up to 200 kg, and could travel 800 metres into the sea at speeds up to 18 km/h and operate for about an hour, according to details. The BMC faced sharp criticism from politicians, including from the ruling BJP and its ally Shiv Sena, for its plan to buy these automated lifebuoys from Turkey in the wake of Ankara extended diplomatic and military support to Islamabad during last month's India-Pakistan military clash. Political leaders raised questions about why the civic body was procuring equipment from a foreign supplier instead of promoting indigenous alternatives. Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China, were the only country that openly supported Pakistan in its recent military confrontation with India which escalated after Indian armed forces conducted Operation Sindoor– a series of precision strikes on terrorist infrastructures inside Pakistan– to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Following Turkey's open support to Pakistan, India took a slew of measures to downgrade ties with Eurasian country, including cancelling major business deals with Turkish firms. 5 foreign ministers from central Asia to attend India-hosted conclave

Foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are attending the conclave to be held in Delhi. New Delhi is hosting the fourth edition of Central Asia Dialogue to forge closer, wider and stronger partnership with the region, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) India will host foreign ministers of five Central Asian countries at a conclave on Friday with a focus on jointly combating terrorism and boosting cooperation in areas of trade and technology. India has been looking at enhancing its cooperation with the Central Asian states of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the last few years amid China's persistent efforts to expand its influence in the region. The conclave is expected to be chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. 'India and Central Asia, in each other's 'Extended Neighbourhood', enjoy close and cordial contemporary diplomatic relations underpinned by millennia old cultural and people-to-people exchanges,' the MEA said in a statement. The first India-Central summit was held virtually in January 2022. The mechanism of India-Central Asia Dialogue, at the level of foreign ministers, have taken this relationship substantially forward, the MEA said. 'The ministers will discuss further strengthening of relations between India and Central Asian countries with particular focus on trade, connectivity, technology, and development cooperation,' it said. 'They will also share perspectives on challenges to regional security and other regional and global issues of mutual interest,' it added. Ways to deal with challenge of terrorism will also be discussed, people familiar with the matter said. 'The India-Central Asia Dialogue is a manifestation of mutual interest on the part of India and the Central Asian countries to forge even closer, wider and stronger partnership in a spirit of friendship, trust and mutual understanding,' the MEA said. The foreign ministers will also participate in the India-Central Asia Business Council that will be hosted by on Thursday by the MEA in collaboration with FICCI. The India-Central Asia Dialogue, launched in January 2019 in Samarkand, is a meeting of foreign ministers. It serves as a key platform for strengthening ties between India and Central Asia. The second meeting took place virtually in October 2020 and focussed on regional security, counter-terrorism, and infrastructure development. The third meeting was held in New Delhi in December 2021 and emphasised connectivity to further deepen the ties between India and Central Asia. India vehemently opposed ADB's loan Pakistan as it could be misused: Govt sources

Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday approved USD 800 million programme to strengthen fiscal sustainability and improve public financial management in Pakistan. 'India shared deep concerns regarding the potential misuse of ADB resources, particularly in light of Pakistan's increasing defence expenditure, its declining tax-to-GDP ratio, and the lack of demonstrable progress on key macroeconomic reforms,' they said. New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) India had vehemently opposed ADB's decision to grant USD 800 million loan to Pakistan saying the fund could be misused for increasing expenditure on its military, government sources said. Earlier in the day, the Congress in a post on X quipped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met ADB President Masato Kanda on June 1 and three days later ADB cleared the USD 800-million loan to Pakistan. Modi government's influence did not work on the IMF earlier and Pakistan got loan last month, the post said, adding that this happened even when the conflict between India and Pakistan was going on. Government sources said India expects the ADB management to adequately ring-fence the ADB financing, to prevent any such misuse. Pakistan's poor track record of implementation stems from the military's deeply entrenched interference in economic affairs, posing risks of policy slippages and reversal of reforms as has been witnessed in the past, they said. Even when a civilian government is in power, the army continues to play an outsized role in domestic politics and extends its tentacles deep into the economy, they added. Pakistan's policy of cross-border terrorism has led to a worsening of the security situation in the region and has significantly escalated macroeconomic risks for Pakistan, which also heightens the enterprise risks for the ADB, sources said. India also highlighted that the economic fragility of the borrowing country (Pakistan) poses credit risks to the ADB too, sources added.
