yielded to political pressure in announcing a
caste-based enumeration
alongside the upcoming national census.
BJP leader and deputy CM Samrat Choudhary criticised the Congress for attempting to take credit for the decision. "Congress, which now claims victory, had opposed the
caste census
and reservation from the Nehru era through to the Manmohan Singh govt. Congress remembered caste census only after being kicked out of power in 2014," he said.
JD(U) senior leader and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary responded to RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav's comment that the caste census is "just the beginning" and that "the picture is not complete yet (picture abhi baaki hai)."
"RJD and Congress are desperate to claim credit for the caste-based census decision," Choudhary said. "In 2019 and 2020, the Bihar assembly unanimously passed resolutions urging the Centre to conduct the 2021 census based on caste. At that time, it was the NDA govt in Bihar. It was also the NDA govt that led an all-party delegation to meet the PM. Again, it was under the NDA govt that the council of ministers decided in June 2022 to issue a notification for the caste survey. So how can the RJD and Congress now claim credit?"

He questioned why the UPA govt, in power from 2004 to 2014, failed to conduct a caste-based census in 2011. "Congress leader Rahul Gandhi does not understand that the Telangana method lacks the accuracy and authenticity of the caste survey conducted by the Nitish government in Bihar. The country is aware of this fact. RJD and Congress leaders should not be under any illusion," he added.
Deputy CM Choudhary said the RSS and Union home minister Amit Shah had made it clear multiple times in September 2024 that both the organisation and the government supported a caste census. "BJP never opposed the caste census," he added.
He pointed to the Congress's past stance, saying, "The real face of Congress was exposed when then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram opposed including caste in the 2011 census, suggesting that castes be counted separately."
Choudhary hailed the current decision as historic. "This is the first time since independence that a caste census will be conducted alongside the national census. I congratulate PM Modi for this landmark step," he said.

He said that the BJP has also always stood against Pakistan and acts of terror. 'The nation got hurt and scarred by multiple terror attacks during the UPA regimes, including the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, leaving more than 175 dead and then again the metropolitan city getting hit in 2011, leaving over 25 dead. It was because of the Congress government's timid response that Pakistan got emboldened and continued abetting terror on our soil,' the BJP MP stated. He said that Congress must see its own 'blemished' past rather than questioning the BJP's policy of nation first.

‘Harming Indians will invite punishment', HM Shah on Op Sindoor
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that through the anti-terror Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a strong message across the world that the bloodshed of Indians will invite punishment. Speaking after handing over appointment letters to 60,244 Uttar Pradesh Police constables, including 12,048 women, HM Shah said, 'I congratulate our armed forces for precision strikes that demolished the terror hubs.' He also compared PM Modi's strong response to terror strikes with the Congress era, which witnessed frequent attacks but no response. Hailing the current era of 'Sashakt Bharat', HM Shah highlighted the strides made by the nation in reducing poverty, space technology, education, aviation, opportunities for the youth, computer-based skilling and urban mobility through Metro networks. HM Shah said that under PM Modi, even internal security in the country has improved. 'Earlier, 11 districts were affected by Maoism, but today Left Wing Extremism is present only in three districts,' he said. 'Mark my words, Maoism will be eradicated from the country by March 21, 2026,' he said. Highlighting the economy's growth under PM Modi, HM Shah said, 'By 2027, the country will become the third largest economy. When PM Modi took charge, our economy was the 11 largest.' Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decisive response to terror, saying that Operation Sindoor has sent a clear message to Pakistan that India will not tolerate bloodshed and will punish those who dare to attack. Addressing a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, Shah criticised Congress for its inability to stop terrorist attacks across the country during its rule. "Terrorist attacks used to happen every day under Congress' rule, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Delhi, and don't even mention Kashmir. Pakistan tried to attack India thrice during PM Modi's rule. When they tried in Uri, they were met with a surgical strike. After Pulwama, they were met with an air strike, and after Pahalgam, the headquarters of terrorists were razed to the ground with Operation Sindoor. PM Modi sent a message to the whole country that India's blood is not meant to be shed, and whoever dares to do this will be punished," ANI quoted Shah as saying. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation for the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. As part of the operation Indian Armed Forces launched precise strikes at nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Shah also praised the Modi government's effort to eradicate Naxalism, saying that after Prime Minister Modi came to power Naxalism's spread has been reduced from over 11 states to just 3 districts. "In 11 years of PM Modi, the country has gotten safe. Naxalism was prevalent in 11 states of the country. After these last 11 years of PM Modi, naxalism is present in only three districts now. Don't forget my words: by May 31, 2026, this country will be free from Naxalism," ANI quoted Shah as saying. Security forces have been carrying out multiple operations in Chhattisgarh and border areas to eradicate Naxalism. The security forces have also achieved considerable success in their attempt to eradicate Naxalism with the elimination of various Naxal leaders killed in recent months. On May 21, security forces eliminated 27 Naxals in an encounter. Due to the concentrated efforts of the security forces, there has been a 53% drop in the incidents of Naxal violence over the last ten years, between 2014 and 2024, compared to the decade before, as per government data.
