iPhone 17 Pro now rumored to start at 256GB of storage

GSM Arena5 days ago
Last month, a rumor told us to expect a price hike across the board for the upcoming iPhone 17 family, except for the entry-level 'vanilla' iPhone 17.
Today, a leaker in China purports to bring a new piece of the puzzle. According to him, the iPhone 17 Pro's rumored $50 price hike will sting a little less, because Apple will apparently move to 256GB base storage.
To say that this has been a long time coming would be a massive understatement, but in 2025 Apple is finally moving away from 128GB base models in its Pro iPhones (we assume the Pro Max will get the same treatment).
Thus, the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro will be $50 more expensive than the 256GB iPhone 16 Pro. According to the latest rumor on the matter, Apple is going to unveil the iPhone 17 family at a special event taking place on September 9. It's then expected to release the new devices on September 19. Apple iPhone 16 Pro

Apple denies Elon Musk's claims of OpenAI favoritism

Elon Musk made headlines earlier this week as he blamed Apple for favoring OpenAI and pushing ChatGPT to the top of the App Store Charts. Musk claimed that xAI "will take immediate legal action" in what he described as an antitrust violation. Elon Musk's posts While there's no official confirmation if xAI and Musk will follow with their claims, Apple issued an official response via Bloomberg (paywall), which denied any favoritism for OpenAI or any other app. We feature thousands of apps through charts, algorithmic recommendations, and curated lists selected by experts using objective criteria. Our goal is to offer safe discovery for users and valuable opportunities for developers, collaborating with many to increase app visibility in rapidly evolving categories." – Apple official statement Apple and OpenAI announced their strategic partnership at WWDC 24, which integrated ChatGPT into the Apple ecosystem. While there's no monetary gain for either company outright, OpenAI did gain more exposure and ChatGPT is being promoted on the App Store. Apple has previously confirmed that it plans to integrate AI models from Google and Anthropic into Apple Intelligence. Musk's recent comments did not account for other AI apps like DeepSeek and Perplexity, which topped the App Store's #1 overall list earlier this year.

vivo Vision launch event confirmed

Michail, 13 August 2025 The first Mixed Reality (MX) headset from vivo is launching on August 21. The brand confirmed the details via Weibo and shared some additional teasers ahead of the event. The device will feature a similar design to Apple's Vision Pro with a metal construction and a visor housing the displays. We also get a glimpse at the digital crown element, which will be used for controlling the headset's opacity. We can also see the knit light seal and band around the back. Hong Yi, General Manager of vivo Smart Device Products, shared a few additional details about the device. It will be as immersive and precise as the Apple Vision Pro, featuring true three-dimensional controls – likely hand gestures just like on Apple's headset. Yi also shared that vivo's headset will feature an ultra-lightweight design. Sadly, the vivo Vision will not be a mass-market product right away. Instead, the headset will be available as an experience at vivo stores across China, allowing users to reserve and test the device and its spatial computing capabilities. Source (in Chinese)
