Dewan Rakyat to address Middle East geopolitics, maritime disputes and subsidy cuts
According to the Order Paper available on the Parliament's official website, Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) will bring the matter up to the Prime Minister during the Minister's Question Time.
Also, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) will ask the Prime Minister about how the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2002 regarding the sovereignty of Ligitan and Sipadan Islands may influence the determination of maritime boundaries between Malaysia and Indonesia in the Sulawesi Sea, including the sovereignty over blocks ND6 (Block Y) and ND7 (Block Z).
During the Question for Oral Answers session, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) will seek an explanation from Investment, Trade and Industry Minister regarding government measures in addressing the United States tariff issue with the involvement of state governments, while Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) will ask the Agriculture and Food Security Minister about the savings through the reduction in subsidy expenditure and the impact on the egg market.
Following the question answer session, the sitting will continue with the first reading of the Poisons (Amendment) Bill 2025, the second reading of the Street, Drainage and Building (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Whistleblower Protection (Amendment) 2025.
The Second Meeting Of The Fourth Session Of 15th Parliament is scheduled for 24 days with the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan on July 31. — Bernama

Speaking at a Bersatu Youth's dialogue session last night, the Selangor PN secretary said the coalition's pitch to voters was simple — clean leaders with integrity and moral standards. 'If you want the good guys, choose us. If you want the bad guys, choose them,' he told the audience, referring to the government coalition. Dr Afif was responding to a question from the audience on PN's strategy to win over Malaysians during the session. He also pointed to the 15th general election as proof that integrity had also swayed voters allegedly into voting PN. 'Barisan Nasional (BN) was the biggest loser in 2022. Their leader, [Datuk Seri Ahmad] Zahid Hamidi, was seen as corrupt. Malays, Chinese, Indians — all rejected him,' he said, referring to the BN chairman. According to him, non-Malays mostly backed Pakatan Harapan (PH) because it was perceived as clean, while most Malays selected PN for the same reason, citing Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's Covid-19 crisis management and reputation for fighting corruption. 'But if you ask me today, between PN and PH, who is seen as having integrity?' he asked, prompting the audience to respond with 'Perikatan.' The Taman Medan assemblyman, who was formerly in PKR, claimed Malaysian politics was still largely shaped along racial lines. 'Look at the demographics. Where there's a Malay majority, there's a Malay candidate. Chinese majority, a Chinese candidate. It's not just political parties, it's also the voters,' he said. He said most major parties still operate along racial lines, citing DAP as an example. 'As much as they want to portray themselves as multiracial, they are still a Chinese-based party. Until they have the confidence to appoint a Malay chief minister in Penang, they remain a race-based party,' he said.

Radzi: PAS Youth can have its pick, but Perikatan's Supreme Council will choose its PM candidate
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The decision on who will be Perikatan Nasional's (PN) prime minister candidate will remain with its Supreme Council, Datuk Radzi Jidin said today. The PN information chief and Putrajaya MP said any names floated before an official announcement are merely personal views, after PAS Youth chief named his pick which included four leaders from the Islamist party. 'As far as anyone who will be nominated as prime minister, that is a decision for the PN Supreme Council. 'So as long as the Supreme Council has not announced anything, there is nothing from PN,' he told reporters after attending a Bersatu Youth dialogue session. Radzi said any decision regarding the prime minister candidate must first be brought to and discussed by the Supreme Council. 'Until there is a decision from the Supreme Council, as I said earlier, those are personal opinions. Officially, it comes from the PN Supreme Council,' the Bersatu vice-president added. His remarks came after PAS Youth Chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden named five Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders yesterday as potential prime ministerial candidates for the 16th general election (GE16), while insisting that the Islamist party should lead the nation. He named four leaders from his party PAS: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Datuk Idris Ahmad as the candidates. He also named the current Opposition leader and Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin. Both PAS and Bersatu have continued to be at loggerheads on their pick for the pact's prime minister candidate for the 16th general election since the slim defeat when led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Federal government keeps Petronas, but states to see bigger share through new deals, says Azalina
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — The ownership of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) remains with the federal government, although steps were taken to enhance the participation of states through strategic collaboration platforms, joint project implementation, and involvement in the value chain, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. Azalina said the federal government's approach is aligned with an inclusive federal structure and ensures sustained benefits for all parties. The minister said that the federal government is currently the sole owner of Petronas, which is incorporated under the Companies Act 1965 as the national oil and gas company. 'The Petroleum Development Act 1974 (Act 144) entrusts Petronas with ownership of petroleum, along with the exclusive rights, powers, freedoms, and privileges to explore, manage, and develop the country's petroleum resources, whether onshore, offshore, or in Malaysian waters,' she said in a response posted on the Parliament's website today. Azalina was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (GRS-Keningau), who asked whether the government could consider distributing 50 per cent shares in Petronas to oil- and gas-producing territories and states, namely Sarawak, Sabah, Terengganu, and Kelantan. According to Jeffrey, the distribution is a fundamental step to strengthen the Malaysian Federation moving forward, while easing politicisation and dissatisfaction over oil and gas rights. Azalina said that although the ownership of Petronas is under the federal government, the current approach allows producing states to receive direct benefits from the petroleum industry through cash payments and various forms of commercial cooperation.
