Norfolk NATO flag raising ceremony kicks off the first night of the Virginia International Tattoo

Thursday is the first night of the Tattoo and NATO night. Before the show began, the Norfolk NATO flag-raising ceremony showed 32 member nations parading their flag at Scope Plaza.
'We're happy to have this in our city right here in Norfolk,' said Alli Pereira with the Virginia Arts Festival. 'And it really means a lot to us at the Virginia International Tattoo to have that celebration of friendship. That is really the Tattoo spirit. So we're happy to carry that through with with Norfolk Native Festival activities.'
This is the first of many NATO festival events that are happening this weekend.
The Tattoo runs from April 24-27.
'For us, you can expect a really detailed and impressive drill display with the band and the drill team and big formations and great Norwegian music,' said Mats Bakken, company commander of His Majesty the King Scott Band and Drill.
The NATO parade will happen Saturday morning in Norfolk.

Rapper Sean Kingston gets 3.5 year prison sentence for $1 million fraud scheme
Rapper Sean Kingston was sentenced on Friday to three and a half years in prison after being convicted of a $1 million fraud scheme in South Florida. Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Paul Anderson, and his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, were each convicted by a federal jury in March of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. U.S. Judge David Leibowitz sentenced Turner last month to five years in prison. The same judge sentenced Kingston, who was immediately taken into custody. Leibowitz also ordered that a restitution hearing should be held within 90 days. Kingston's sentence is to be followed by three years of supervised release. According to court records, Kingston used social media from April 2023 to March 2024 to arrange purchases of high-end merchandise. Turner was taken into custody during the raid, while Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California's Mojave Desert, where he was performing. According to court records, Kingston used social media from April 2023 to March 2024 to arrange purchases of high-end merchandise. After negotiating deals, Kingston would invite the sellers to one of his high-end Florida homes and promise to feature them and their products on social media. His other hits include 2007's 'Take You There' and 2009's 'Fire Burning.'
