ATTENTION: Newcastle SPCA issues urgent appeal to find owner of injured dog
A Memel veterinary team together with the Newcastle SPCA has issued an urgent appeal for assistance in locating the owner of an injured dog.
According to the SPCA, it is suspected that the dog may have fallen or jumped from a moving vehicle while passing through the Memel area.
'He is currently receiving medical treatment from the Memel vets. The incident may have involved travellers unfamiliar with the area, and the owner may not yet be aware of where or how the dog went missing,' they stated.
If you recognise the dog or know of someone who is searching for their pet in or around Memel, please contact the Newcastle SPCA on 072 337 0347 or the Memel Vets on 062 479 9011.
Proof of ownership will be required.

Springs workshop attack: Business owner shot dead, woman dies in hospital
A 35-year-old Ekurhuleni business owner and a 27-year-old woman were shot on Phoenix Road in Selcourt, Springs. Springs Advertiser reports that the shooting happened in the morning, last Friday. The business owner was declared dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to the hospital, where she later died. Two others were wounded. Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, spokesperson for Springs SAPS, says the business owner was in the workshop with the woman when the shooting occurred. Tshabalala says two armed men entered through the main workshop door, walked up to them, and opened fire. 'The owner was shot eight times and died at the scene. 'The two suspects fled in a maroon or brown Toyota Avanza or Suzuki SUV. Some employees ran after them and reported hearing them speak in Zulu,' he says. Well-connected? Thabo Bester claims to know these celebs
With his charm and gift of the gab, Thabo Bester has repeatedly deceived the public into believing he was a hotshot businessman. The convicted criminal is also thought to be well-connected to several celebrities and politicians who have directly or indirectly crossed paths with him. Thabo and his co-accused, former girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana and seven others, are facing a slew of charges, including aiding his 2022 prison escape, running fraudulent businesses, and violating multiple bodies. His trial is set to begin on 10 November at the Bloemfontein High Court. In 2023, Thabo Bester was first linked to celebrity aesthetics doctor Nandipha Magudumana. However, his 'contact list' reportedly contains many more prominent names… Through his own admission and via media reports, these celebrities' names have been linked to Thabo Bester… In 2012, a year after his sentencing for rape and murder, Pearl Thusi went public about coming came face to face with the man dubbed the 'Facebook Rapist' in a chilling encounter. In a police affidavit shown to Sunday World , the star revealed how she had survived an attack by the convict. The company held a grand launch party at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton, attended by celebs like Amanda du Pont, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and politician Mzwanele Manyi. Bester – using the alias Tom Motsepe – told his company employees and the public that he was based in New York. He also claimed that he was related to SA billionaire Patrice Motsepe. In a video clip that has since gone viral, Nomzamo Mbatha and Thabile Ngwato were captured singing Happy Birthday to 'Tom,' who was seen laughing via a video link. Following his rearrest in 2023 alongside Nandipha Magudumana, Thabo Bester's name was once again linked to several more high-profile people. On the X platform, actress Simz Ngema and businesswoman Shauwn 'MaMkhize' Mkhize were accused of visiting Bester in prison. Both women vehemently denied the allegations of knowing the criminal. But things took a turn for the worse when the women were alerted to the scam a month before the event. They have all denied being booked for the event. In 2023, investigative reporter Karen Maughan told Newzroom Afrika that a 'well-known celebrity' was linked to Thabo Bester. She alleged that a 'billionaire' businesswoman had visited Bester at the Mangaung Correctional Centre. 'We've been phoning a number of the people who've been visiting him, and a number of the people he listed as contacts – including a very well-known celebrity, who we know. We've seen her on TV', she said. Home Affairs scandal: Seven arrested amid backlog issues
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has landed in hot water following investigations. The Serious Corruption Investigation component of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation arrested two more suspects. Authorities arrested seven people during an ongoing operation in KwaZulu-Natal. The matter is regarding issuing fraudulent passports to undocumented foreign nationals. The DHA is allegedly involved in corruption, fraud, and contraventions of the Identification Act and Immigration Act. Police spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, said preliminary investigations found citizens offered the DHA employees between R300 to R1000 in exchange for the unlawful services. He said the unlawful activities happened when the offices were closed. The crimes were prevalent at Home Affairs offices in Isipingo, Durban Central and Eshowe. The Serious Corruption Investigation is probing the matter. Meanwhile, seven of the accused appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes court. Philani Mmeli Zaca, Fumani 'Guru' Hlayisi, Zime Anita Shange, Bongiwe Kubheka, Thandiwe Pretty Khwela, Lungisani Siyanda Mzobe, and Lindokuhle Bongumusa Mpanza made their appearance. The court postponed the case to Friday, 20 June, for legal aid and a formal bail application. The court also remanded the accused in custody. National Prosecuting Authority Regional Spokesperson for KZN Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says the accused face numerous charges. They face charges of fraud, Contraventions of the Identification Act, 68 of 1997, diverse Contraventions of the Immigration Act, 13 of 2002 (as amended), and Corruption (accepting gratification). The arrests follow allegations that at least a quarter of a million people are still waiting Home Affairs to process their late birth registration applications. The Children's Institute has filed a court application with the Western Cape High Court. This seeks to compel the DHA to act on the backlog. The institute says the Home Affairs Department has affected the fundamental rights of children and their parents, and caregivers.
