The landmark venue will feature the largest opera hall in Saudi Arabia and is a key component of Diriyah's transformation.
Diriyah Company has awarded a contract for the development of the Royal Diriyah Opera House, a major cultural initiative with an estimated investment of SAR 5.1 billion (approximately USD 1.36 billion). The project marks a milestone in the ongoing development of Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site being transformed into a global hub for heritage, culture, and the arts in alignment with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
Scheduled to become the largest opera venue in the Kingdom, the Royal Opera House will include a 2,000-seat main hall, a theatre, a studio, a rooftop amphitheatre, and a series of multipurpose cultural spaces. Once completed, the total seating capacity across the venue is expected to exceed 3,100. The project's design aims to reflect the architectural heritage of Diriyah while setting new standards for performing arts infrastructure in the region.
Three companies have been selected to deliver the project, which was announced at the start of the second quarter of 2025. The development aligns with Diriyah Company's broader strategy to enhance the historic site's global appeal while preserving its cultural and historical significance.
Once operational, the Royal Diriyah Opera House is anticipated to attract international performers, foster local talent, and offer a world-class platform for cultural exchange at the heart of Saudi Arabia's growing creative economy.

Saudi to Allocate 2.5 Million Airline Seats for Umrah by End of 2025

Routes from Europe, including Paris, Lyon and London, are part of a wider strategy to improve access to Madinah and Jeddah. Saudi Arabia has announced plans to allocate a total of 2.5 million airline seats for Umrah pilgrims by the end of 2025, with over 700,000 seats already utilised during the first quarter of the year. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance air connectivity to the Kingdom's key pilgrimage cities, including Madinah and Jeddah, and to streamline travel for visitors from across the globe. The expansion was unveiled during the Umrah and Ziyarah Forum, held in Madinah from April 14th to the 16th, which brought together 150 exhibitors representing over 100 countries. The event focused on infrastructure, travel technologies, and Madinah's historical significance. So far in 2025, 12 airlines have joined the Kingdom's air connectivity programme, introducing 20 new international routes and adding 1.5 million seats to the network. Participating carriers include ITA Airways, British Airways, Wizz Air, and Eurowings. Several of the new connections focus on Europe. Germany's Stuttgart has been added to the growing list of cities with direct flights to Jeddah, alongside Berlin and Cologne. Transavia, the France-based carrier, will soon operate flights from Paris and Lyon. In the United Kingdom, daily flights from London's Gatwick Airport to Madinah are scheduled to begin in August, contributing 180,000 seats to the Umrah travel system. The expansion reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to facilitate religious tourism and improve access to holy sites as part of Vision 2030, which seeks to increase the number of annual Umrah visitors to 30 million.

COT Report: Metals, energy demand offset by broad Ag selling

Ole Hansen, Head of Commodity Strategy, Saxo Bank In the latest reporting week to 3 June, the period saw the USD trade broadly weaker. Speculators nevertheless responded by reducing their overall short USD position versus the eight IMM FX futures contracts by 8%, to USD 12.2 billion. At the individual currency level, buying of EUR and MXN was more than offset by selling of JPY and CAD. Strong metals and energy demand offset by agriculture selling The reporting week to 3 June showed a major divergence in hedge funds' appetite for exposure—strong demand for energy and metals, both precious and industrial, was partly offset by broad net selling across the agriculture sector. Overall, the Bloomberg Commodity Index rose 0.4% during the week, with strong gains across both metals sectors being offset by a 3.4% loss in the agriculture sector, where all components except coffee suffered setbacks. At the individual commodity level, hedge funds concentrated their demand in WTI crude oil, gas oil, natural gas, gold, and silver. Meanwhile, the broad selling in agriculture was led by soybeans, corn, and sugar. Silver—which had yet to break the USD 35 resistance level as of last Tuesday—saw its net long rise by 36% to 45.4k contracts, just 4.3k contracts below the five-year high set in March. In contrast, fresh short selling reduced the platinum net long by 31% to 12.8k contracts, just before prices embarked on a fresh surge that resulted in a 12% rise since last Tuesday.
