Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire 2025-26 NBA season after suffering a torn right Achilles tendon in the NBA Finals, team president Kevin Pritchard said Monday.
Haliburton was playing with a right calf strain when he went down in the first quarter of Indiana's 103-91 loss to Oklahoma City in the title-deciding contest.

"I have no doubt that he will be back better than ever," Pritchard said. "He will not play next year though. We would not jeopardize that now. Don't get any hopes up that he will play."
Haliburton sparked the Pacers to their first NBA Finals since 2000, averaging 18.6 points, 9.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game.
"He plays best when he is really hungry and I'm guessing next year, he's going to be champing at the bit to prove to everybody that he's back," Pritchard said.
"We're just going to have to take it slow and make sure he's back to 100 per cent. I expect great things and him being an-All NBA player -- we witnessed something with clutch shotmaking that I've never seen in the NBA."

That included a game-winning basket at the buzzer to beat Oklahoma City in the finals' opener.
Pritchard said the Pacers haven't given up on being an NBA contender but realize they will lack something special until Haliburton returns from June 23 surgery.
"We were 24 minutes and an injury away," Pritchard said. "We have some challenges with Ty's injury but we like what we have.
"We'll have some guys that hopefully will have some opportunities and when he gets back, it'll be the cherry on top, I guess."
Haliburton's rehabilitation is off to a strong start, Pritchard said.

"He has been doing great," Pritchard said. "He's doing good, but the real work starts now in terms of rehab and it's tough."
Haliburton has said he would take the chance again and play in the winner-take-all last game of the NBA Finals despite suffering the injury, but Pritchard said he didn't feel the same.
"Would I have him do it over and over? I would not," Pritchard said. "If I knew he was going to get hurt, I would sacrifice that game because I care for the kid so much."
The Pacers have also lost another key member of their run to the finals as center Myles Turner signed a four-year free agent deal with Milwaukee.

AEW All In 2025 lives true to the old mantra: Everything is bigger in Texas. Tony Khan's company takes its biggest stars to Globe Life Field in Arlington on Saturday night with the stage set for one of the most significant events in AEW history. In the main event, the AEW World Championship is once again on the line as long-reigning champion Jon Moxley defends in a much-anticipated grudge match against Hangman Adam Page. Appropriately, the match stipulation will be a Texas Deathmatch. Considering the magnitude of this pairing and the history both men share, this could be a brutal affair. Advertisement Despite the anticipation for the world title tilt, the inaugural AEW Unified Championship match between champions Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada has the collective pro wrestling world most salivating. The rivalry between the two all-time greats from their years in New Japan Pro-Wrestling delivered arguably the best matches ever seen in a ring. To say there's plenty of hype for this renewal of the blood feud on American soil would be an understatement. Omega vs. Okada isn't the only champion vs. champion match, though. The big featured women's match sees AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm defend against the TBS titleholder (among several other championship labels) — and the winner of the women's Owen Hart Cup — Mercedes Moné. AEW All In 2025 hosts three additional title matches to comprise a loaded 11-match lineup. AEW All In 2025 starts at 3 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. Cubs Predicted to Land Award Winner to Solve Infield Issues

Cubs Predicted to Land Award Winner to Solve Infield Issues originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs enter the next few weeks with some big priorities, as the trade deadline will allow them to improve their MLB roster. For a Cubs team looking to win a World Series, there's no excuse for Chicago not to get the job done. Advertisement However, the 2025 MLB draft is also next week, and the Cubs have proven over the past few years that they're willing to invest heavily in their farm system. The Cubs arguably have the best farm system in baseball, and that should only get better next week, holding the No. 17 overall pick and many other selections. When searching for who the Cubs might take at No. 17, USA Today recently linked them to Wehiwa Aloy, a shortstop out of the University of Arkansas who won the Golden Spikes Award, awarded to the best college baseball player in the nation, last season. Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer speaks before a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Guardians at Wrigley Field. Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn ImagesKamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images 'We'll stubbornly keep Aloy ticketed to the Cubs, even as a strong postseason that ended in Omaha further buttressed his profile. He might have smoother actions around the bag than Arquette, even if his offensive punch grades out a notch below the fellow Hawaiian collegiate star,' they wrote. Advertisement It continues to be somewhat surprising that Aloy isn't a top 10 pick, as he did everything at Arkansas to prove he's that good. However, given he's a bit older than some other draft prospects, it's likely hurting him. Still, what he does offensively can't go unnoticed. If the Cubs were able to add that to their farm system, there's a strong argument to be made that he could be a top-five prospect in their system from day one. Los Angeles Lakers reportedly didn't offer LeBron James extension or give him heads-up about sale of team

Maybe the writing was on the wall back in February. But now it's big, bold, purple and gold. LeBron James is no longer the centerpiece of the Los Angeles Lakers. Luka Dončić is the new franchise cornerstone. Advertisement The cracks of that tectonic shift have been forming over the past five-plus months. A fissure could result. The Lakers are trying to navigate a transition of power from one of the sport's greatest players of all time. As ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst comprehensively reported Friday, behind the scenes, the organization hasn't been making that change subtly. Shelburne and Windhorst's report revealed that James was not given a heads-up about the sale of the franchise from the Buss family to Mark Walter, whereas the 26-year-old Dončić was. [Get more Lakers news: L.A. team feed] Additionally, the Lakers didn't offer James an extension, according to ESPN, implying that general manager Rob Pelinka was comfortable having the 40-year-old, four-time NBA champion on an expiring contract for the 2025-26 season. Advertisement Although James picked up his $52.6 million player option in late June, the news came with an eyebrow-raising statement from his agent, Rich Paul, who reportedly had to inform the organization of James' decision to opt in after the Lakers didn't engage in "substantial discussions" about a potential extension. "We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future," Paul said in the statement to ESPN's Shams Charania. "We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. "He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him." While Paul reached out to Dončić and the Lakers before releasing that statement, according to ESPN, James reportedly hasn't been receiving the same kind of advance notice from the organization that he had been privy to for seven-plus years after joining the Lakers in 2018. Advertisement The ESPN report details how James wasn't given significant warning that they were trading his longtime friend and teammate, Anthony Davis, to the Dallas Mavericks for Dončić. At the time, James even told reporters he initially thought the trade "was a hoax." Because James has immense respect for Dončić, and because the four-time MVP understood the Lakers' decision to make the deal and keep it secret for as long as they did, he "forgave" the Lakers for not keeping him in the loop there, per ESPN. But James was also not notified beforehand about the franchise changing hands last month, according to ESPN. A reportedly in-the-know Dončić posted on social media, praising the Lakers organization and embracing the change in ownership. As ESPN reported, James didn't follow suit with a public acknowledgement. James is the NBA's all-time leading scorer. He's a 21-time All-Star who has won championships with three teams, including the Lakers. He's also a global phenomenon and a successful entrepreneur. Throughout James' professional basketball career, he's consistently been the first to know about happenings involving the teams he's played for. That's reportedly no longer the case, as illustrated in Shelburne and Windhorst's reporting on Friday.
