Boy, 3, dies after being left in car in scorching 31C temperatures
A three-year-old boy tragically lost his life in the back of his stepmother's car after she allegedly forgot he was sleeping inside the vehicle in temperatures of over 30 degrees celsius.
The dehydrated body of Miguel Antunes Versari was discovered inside a red Chrysler car, where he'd been left for over 10 hours. His mother's partner had reportedly forgotten to take him to to nursery when he dozed off in the vehicle in in Videira, Brazil last Friday, April 25.
She was supposed to have dropped him at the nursery by 7 am. But, after dropping her partner - Miguel's mother, a nurse, at work, she left the child in the car and only later discovered his body when she went to pick him up from nursery, reports the Mirror.
Temperatures in Videira soared to highs of 31C on Friday and, inside a hot car, could have surged to as high as 57C – akin to a heated oven.
Local police launched a suspicious death investigation and have been interrogating Miguel's stepmother.
"Yesterday, she said that the child had flu-like symptoms and was medicated with ibuprofen," a spokesperson for the police said.
"So he was not as active as usual and was sleeping in the back seat of the vehicle. After leaving her partner at work, she did not realise that the child was sleeping."
Authorities awaited an autopsy report to determine Miguel's cause of death and were also reviewing CCTV footage near the family's residence.
The incident comes after a four-month-old baby died in the United States earlier this month after he was also left in a car by his father.
Moshe Ehrlich, aged 35, had dropped three of his kids off at school and was meant to take the baby to the babysitter's house afterwards, according to a criminal complaint. However, he rang his wife at work to let her know that he'd forgotten the baby's milk and needed to go back home to fetch it.
He collected the milk and a few other items before returning to the car. But instead of heading back to the babysitter's, he drove straight to his yeshiva - a traditional Jewish school - forgetting to drop off the baby, according to the complaint.
He parked up outside the school in Lakewood, New Jersey, around 11am and went inside for his classes.
Then, at about 1.30pm, someone from the school informed him that there was a phone call for him on the dedicated family emergency line. The alarm was raised after the babysitter, Esther Kitay, texted Mr Ehrlich's wife, Faiga, to ask why the baby hadn't been dropped off that morning.
The father-of-six reportedly grabbed his belongings and dashed out to his car. The baby boy, whose name has not been disclosed, was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was later pronounced dead.

He told The Guardian: 'When I was working in homicide investigations in the Met, occasionally these cases would come along which for some reason just connected around the public consciousness. How did it happen? When did it happen? Where did it happen, you know?' 'That's why these situations are so frustrating … because there's way more questions than answers. Investigators are looking into claims a British man and his German wife were somehow involved in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann after the sister of the Brit tipped off detectives. The woman claimed in 2018 that the couple had been drinking close to where Madeleine went missing. They reportedly had been in a car that hit Madeleine while under the influence of alcohol. A note written by Christian Brueckner asked six questions. According to a note translated by The Sun, Brueckner wrote: "It is the important questions, the decisive questions that can never be answered." These are the six questions he raised: Portuguese police reportedly did not know what intelligence German police were working with when they launched the latest search. German officials packed up a few soil samples from the site during the search, although they have not commented on the significance of anything that was found. Brueckner is believed to have sent a note to authorities proposing a list of questions that would implicate him in the disappearance of the three year old girl. German media outlets have seen the note where Brueckner allegedly wrote: "It is the important questions, the decisive questions that can never be answered. "Was I or my vehicle clearly seen near the crime scene on the night of the crime? Is there DNA evidence of me at the crime scene? Are there DNA traces of the injured party in my vehicle? Meanwhile, a recent documentary has highlighted alarming circumstantial evidence found at an old warehouse previously owned by Brueckner in Neuwegersleben, Germany. The Sun reports that during a search of the property, police uncovered over 70 children's swimsuits, a toddler's bicycle, inflatable toys, and a trove of images stored on an 80GB hard drive, purportedly taken in Portugal. Additionally, they discovered a laptop, masks, and guns, as well as a handwritten narrative detailing the abduction of a woman and child from outside a preschool using drugs.
