Google Translate
is now available as a default translation app option on Apple's iPhone and iPad devices. This update allows users to seamlessly translate text, conversations, and even images without needing to open a separate app, placing Google's powerful translation tools directly at their fingertips.
With the latest iOS update, users can select Google Translate as their preferred translation service within the system settings. This integration means that when users encounter foreign language text in various apps or websites, they can quickly access Google Translate's features through the share sheet or context menus.
This development marks a shift in how iOS users can access translation services. Previously, Apple's built-in Translate app was the primary option. Now, users have the flexibility to choose the translation app that best suits their needs. Google Translate is known for its extensive language support, offline capabilities, and advanced features like camera translation and conversation mode.
The availability of Google Translate as a default option is expected to benefit a wide range of users.
The integration is rolling out with the latest iOS update, and users can select Google Translate as their default translation app in the settings menu. This enhancement simplifies the translation process on iOS devices, making it more convenient for users to communicate and access information across languages.

WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Share Usernames To Chat With Other People: Here's How

Last Updated: WhatsApp usernames will stop people from sharing their phone number with strangers and use this safer option for chatting. WhatsApp uses numbers to let you chat with other people but that will finally change as the messaging app finally brings support for usernames. We have heard about the feature for a few years now but once again WaBetaInfo claims the platform is developing the tool internally which could give a big privacy boost for its users. The tests are being done on the WhatsApp beta app for iOS devices and it won't be long before the Android version also sees some changes in this regard. Bringing usernames will stop people from sharing their number with strangers, which has been a big privacy issue for years. Usernames can be defined by the user so that they can have a unique identity that can be freely shared with people and not worry about their phone number leaking in the public. These changes will be important for people in WhatsApp groups and other chats that you have with businesses and other platforms. The first instance of usernames on WhatsApp being mentioned was back in 2023 and it seems we are finally getting a move on. Having said that, the tipster suggests WhatsApp will have some rules for how the usernames are created and used on the app. The messaging platform is expected to advise users to set up a username that has at least one letter along with numbers and symbols. For some reason, WhatsApp is telling people that the username cannot start with ' and you will be verified for the username, to know if that ID is available or already in use. WhatsApp did finally launch on iPad after 15 years of giving it a miss so username will be another valuable addition to billions of users. First Published: June 04, 2025, 08:10 IST

Apple WWDC 2025: What to expect and how to watch the event live on June 9

A few weeks after Google holds its annual developer conference, Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, popularly known as WWDC, will take place this year from 10:30 PM onwards on Monday, June 9. This year, the four-day long event will majorly focus on Apple changing things up with iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, tvOS and watchOS. As part of its new strategy, the Cupertino-based tech giant might be planning to ditch version numbers of different operating systems and name them by the year. And while the current year is 2025, Apple is reportedly adopting the +1 strategy approach, meaning new versions of operating systems that may launch later this year in September will be named for the year 2026. This means that the next version of iOS won't be iOS 19, but instead will be renamed to iOS 26. Apple analyst Mark Gurman says that this renaming scheme will apply to the company's other operating systems as well, which means we might see Apple announcing iPadOS 26, macOS 26, visionOS 26, tvOS 26 and watchOS 26 this year. Reportedly, this is being done to bring consistency to the branding. In the last few years, Apple has unveiled new operating systems for different products like iPadOS, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS, but since these software weren't launched in the same year, they currently have different version numbers. You can tune into the Apple WWDC 2025 live stream when it goes live on June 9 by clicking or bookmarking the link below. The event will also be streamed live on Apple's website. At the WWDC 2025, Apple is also said to bring major changes for iPhone, iPad and Mac operating systems, with some sources claiming that this will be the year the company brings major design changes. Apple might be working on revamped menus, apps, windows, system buttons and icons inspired by visionOS. The UI redesign project, internally called Solarium, also reportedly includes a visual overhaul to tvOS, watchOS and some parts of visionOS. Unlike Apple's other operating systems, visionOS is a newly designed operating system that made its debut on Apple's not-so-popular Vision Pro Mixed Reality headset and uses circular icons and translucent panels for navigation. Speculations also suggest that the tech giant's upcoming version of operating systems will make the design similar across different products. For developers, a Bloomberg report from last month claims that Apple is partnering with AI startup Anthropic to develop a new 'vibe-coding' software platform, which will use artificial intelligence to 'write, edit and test code on behalf of programmers.' It looks like Apple has changed its tune, as in the early days of generative artificial intelligence, the tech giant had been resistant to using AI for developing software for consumers.

OpenAI's AI agent Codex is now available to ChatGPT Plus users and it can access the internet

OpenAI's AI coding assistant, Codex, is now available to ChatGPT Plus users. Until now, Codex was only available to those using ChatGPT's Enterprise, Team, or Pro tiers. This basically means that with this rollout, individual developers and smaller teams can now tap into the tool's features that are designed to help write, test, and debug code faster. The most significant new update to Codex is its ability to access the internet during coding tasks. This change allows the AI agent to install dependencies, interact with staging servers, and even run tests that require fetching external resources. However, OpenAI is taking a cautious approach by turning internet access off by default. Users can enable it manually and control exactly which domains Codex is allowed to reach and which HTTP methods it can also confirmed that they're actively monitoring for prompt injection attacks, where malicious users try to trick Codex into making unintended web requests, to ensure the tool remains secure. advertisementAnother user-friendly addition is voice input. Developers can now speak their instructions instead of typing them, which could help speed up workflows and make Codex more accessible to those with disabilities or who simply prefer voice interaction. Codex has also seen improvements in how it handles pull requests. In the past, the AI would create a new pull request for every change. Now, it can update existing ones, making it easier to manage ongoing work without cluttering the scenes, OpenAI has introduced several performance upgrades too. These include faster setup scripts, better handling on iOS devices, and an improved connection process with GitHub. For teams using social logins or single sign-on, OpenAI has removed the requirement for two-factor authentication, simplifying the sign-in launched in May, Codex is built into ChatGPT and designed to manage a wide range of development tasks. These include writing new features, fixing bugs, and even answering complex technical questions about a codebase. Each task runs in its own isolated coding environment, or sandbox, to keep things is powered by a special version of OpenAI's o3 model, which has been trained specifically for programming. According to OpenAI, the model was developed using reinforcement learning on real-world software development projects. The goal was to produce code that closely mimics the style and structure of human developers, especially in how it handles pull requests and follows users looking to get started, Codex is available through the ChatGPT sidebar. You can assign a new task by selecting 'Code' after entering a prompt, or click 'Ask' if you want help understanding a part of your codebase. Tasks are handled one at a time in a dedicated workspace where Codex can read, edit, and test your code. Depending on the complexity, tasks usually take between 1 and 30 minutes to complete, and users can watch the progress in real time.
