Justice Ministry, UNITAR partner on advanced legal training

The Ministry of Justice on Monday signed an agreement with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to organise an advanced training program aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the legal sector in Qatar.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi and UNITAR Executive Director Michelle Gyles-McDonnough signed the deal.
The program will be implemented in two phases in the State of Qatar. The first phase aims to educate participants about various legal challenges and introduce them to opportunities for innovation and keeping pace with developments in justice and technology through comprehensive and integrated training workshops.
The second phase will focus on assessing participants' innovative potential and enhancing the knowledge acquired during the first phase, through organizing a dedicated hackathon.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Justice clarified that the launch of this program is part of the Ministry's 2025–2030 strategy, which prioritises the development of the training sector in line with Qatar National Vision 2030's human development pillar and the Third National Development Strategy that supports this direction.
The statement added that the program will offer the legal sector in the country the opportunity to benefit from artificial intelligence applications and the effective tools provided by technology to address the complex challenges facing the world. It noted that integrating technology into the legal system will help enhance efficiency, improve access to justice, and promote transparency—supporting the principles of swift and effective justice.
The statement also emphasized that the active participation of youth, along with public-private partnerships, has become essential, given the digital competencies and innovative perspectives this group brings—contributing to the development of legal solutions that align with the evolving needs of society.
It highlighted the importance of aligning legal frameworks with technological advancement as a necessary step to ensure the evolution of the rule of law in parallel with societal transformations. It stressed that the integration of justice, technology, youth, and modern rule of law is no longer optional, but a necessity for building a resilient legal system capable of meeting the dynamic needs of society.

It further affirms Qatar's distinguished standing in the field, particularly in light of the ongoing programs and initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Municipality under the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030), which prioritizes the development of smart cities, adoption of digital infrastructure, and the optimization of resource efficiency. The Ministry of Municipality has played a pivotal role in advancing urban sustainability through smart urban planning, modernization of public service systems, and the integration of sustainable transportation - efforts that were clearly demonstrated during Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 through the delivery of seamless services powered by innovation and technology. The 2025 awards ceremony is set to take place on Dec 4 at the historic Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami, with the participation of prominent global figures from the fields of sustainability, technology, and economics. The event will honor distinguished international leaders across three categories: Leadership in Implementation, Smart and Sustainable City Solutions, and Innovation-Driven Economic Diversification. The NST was established by members of the Nobel family as an independent organization, with no administrative affiliation to the original Nobel Foundation. NST aims to promote global sustainable development by honoring groundbreaking innovations and impactful initiatives, encouraging collaborative research, and supporting international dialogue on sustainable energy, smart cities, circular economy, and good governance. The NST Awards are granted annually in three main categories. Cabinet okays draft MoU between interior ministry, US investigation bureau for security cooperation
DOHA: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan. Following the meeting, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi stated the following: At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet extended sincere greetings to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, asking Allah Almighty to return this blessed occasion for His Highness with the best of health and wellness, and for the State of Qatar and its people further development and prosperity under the wise leadership of HH the Amir, as well as the Arab and Islamic nations with goodness and blessings. The Cabinet reviewed the topics on its agenda, noting the Shura Council's approval of a draft law extending the concession granted to Mowasalat (Karwa), a Qatari joint stock company, to manage and operate taxis. The Cabinet approved a draft agreement on mutual administrative assistance for the optimal application of customs law and for the suppression, investigation and combating of customs violations between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Tunisia. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change launches Qatar Biodiversity Database
QNA Doha The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on Tuesday launched the National Biodiversity Database of the State of Qatar through an interactive electronic platform to document and classify terrestrial and marine organisms. The launch coincides with World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5. The platform aims to create accurate maps of natural habitats and the spatial and temporal distribution of species, providing a reliable scientific reference that supports decision-makers, researchers, and relevant authorities in preparing national reports and formulating environmental policies based on precise and sustainable scientific data. In this context, Minister of Environment and Climate Change HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie affirmed that the launch of the database is a strategic milestone in Qatar's environmental path and reflects the country's commitment to environmental governance and sustainable development. He pointed out that having a comprehensive and reliable national database is a strategic necessity and a key tool for monitoring environmental changes, policy formulation, and decision-making. It also plays a role in enhancing Qatar's standing in international environmental indices by providing accurate data to global organizations, HE added. HE the Minister explained that the database aligns with the aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030 and translates the directions of the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 toward green transformation and enhanced environmental security, particularly in addressing the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. The launch ceremony witnessed the signing of a 'Principal User Document' with several governmental and academic entities, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Environmental Science Centre at Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, University of Doha for Science and Technology, Qatar National Library, and the Friends of the Environment Centre. This step aims to promote effective institutional use of environmental data. For his part, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said that the new platform is an advanced model in environmental knowledge management, enabling accurate assessment of biodiversity, with a focus on both threatened and non-threatened species and environmentally sensitive sites, through scientifically supported descriptions with maps and illustrative images. HE also noted that, as a party to international biodiversity agreements, Qatar regularly conducts comprehensive environmental surveys, and the new platform will enhance the quality of these reports and facilitate environmental reporting. Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Natural Reserves Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani emphasized that the database marks a qualitative leap in unifying environmental data and supporting the sustainable use of biological resources, while also encouraging community and expert engagement in environmental conservation efforts. Director of the Wildlife Development Department at the Ministry Youssef Ibrahim Al Hamar said that the database serves as a comprehensive reference that enables users to conduct seamless searches and access accurate data. He noted that the Ministry organized training courses for the technical team to ensure the platform's operational readiness.
