PM Modi's efforts herald new revolution via biofuels: Hardeep Puri
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister said that biofuel is an energy that is obtained from household and farm waste, grains or spoiled grains, and this environmentally-friendly, clean fuel is also a powerful medium to accelerate the country's development.
"Namibia joins GBA. India's initiative towards clean energy and the expansion of the Global Biofuel Alliance family is another proof of PM Narendra Modi's farsightedness on the mantra of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," the minister said in a post on X.
Puri emphasised that the Prime Minister's efforts toward biofuels are bringing substantial change to the nation and improving the lives of citizens.
"PM Modi's efforts have brought a 'new revolution of change through biofuel' in India. This green fuel, which is powering India's development journey, is changing and improving the lives of people from villages to cities," the minister posted.
The biofuel is not only helping farmers to generate income, but the development around it is creating new employment opportunities, especially in rural areas.
"Along with increasing the income of farmers, this fuel is also creating new employment opportunities in rural areas," he added.
In a recent conversation with IANS, the minister said that biofuel blending has reached 20 per cent this year, which was 1.4 per cent in 2014.
India today stands strong as the third-largest biofuel producer in the world. According to official estimates, ethanol blending initiatives have improved farmer incomes over the past ten years because they are made from sugarcane, created jobs in rural areas, decreased CO2 emissions equal to planting 1.75 crore trees, and saved Rs 85,000 crore in foreign exchange.
Leading this effort are public sector oil companies Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, which have introduced a variety of ethanol and gasoline blends throughout the nation.

Centre's support sought for farmers in capital region
Vijayawada: Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Rural Poverty Alleviation, and Empowerment of Non-Resident Telugus Kondapalli Srinivas has urged Union Minister of State for Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar to support the promotion of micro-enterprises and food processing units as a means of sustainable alternative livelihood for small and marginal farmers as well as landless agricultural labourers in the CRDA villages, including Amaravati and Tadepalli mandals of Guntur district. Minister Srinivas, accompanied by SERP (Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty) officials, met the Union Minister in New Delhion Monday and narrated the need for the setting up of micro, medium and small scale industries in the capital region for livelihood. Srinivas said that approximately 29,000 farmers from 22 villages voluntarily contributed around 33,000 acres of land to the CRDA under the Land Pooling Scheme for the development of the state capital. This, he noted, significantly impacted the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers and landless labourers, who are now in urgent need of sustainable alternatives. Many of these families, he added, are members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). Minister Srinivas said the CRDA villages have immense potential to promote micro-enterprises and food processing units, particularly through SHG women in these areas. He recommended the establishment of institutional and skill development training, along with robust forward and backward market linkages.

Ponguleti lays foundation stones for infra upgrades
Khammam: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy visited Tirumalayapalem mandal on Monday and laid the foundation stone for various development works. In Ajmira Thanda village, the foundation stone was laid for the repair work of the Ajmira Thanda to Rakasi Thanda Road High Level Bridge Approach Road at a cost of Rs 2.50 crore, and for the construction work of the BT road from Hyder Sai Peta to Sirolu (Aakeru) at a cost of Rs 1.65 crore, and from Hyder Sai Peta to Chilakkoyalapadu at a cost of Rs 90 lakh. Ponguleti said that the foundation stone was laid for the construction work of the BT road from Jallepalli to Devunigutta at a cost of Rs 4.18 crore in Jallepalli village. He said that cement roads were laid in this village at a cost of Rs 83 lakh and drinking water arrangements were made at a cost of Rs 6 lakh. Notably, the Gopalapuram Jallepalli Road Bridge, which was washed away due to floods last year, is being built at a cost of Rs 33 crore, the Patharlapadu Cross Road to Ravi Chettu Thanda Road is being built at a cost of Rs 20 crore, and the Patharlapadu Cross Road to Jallepalli Road is being built at a cost of Rs 27 crore. He said that the Paleru Maripeda Road has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 16 crore and the work on these will start soon. He said that steps have been taken for the development of the village in Sublaid village with a cost of about Rs 35 crore.
