Data breech affects one million Connecticut residents
HARTFORD, CT. (WWLP) – More than one million people had their personal information compromised in a massive healthcare data breach.

The Community Health Center says exactly 1,008,519 people in Connecticut were impacted by a nationwide data breach, which affects a total of 1,060,936 people, NBC Connecticut states. The Attorney General says patients had their vaccination records, social security numbers, and possible treatment, testing, and insurance information compromised.
Over 4,000 workers were also affected by this. They say it happened back in October, and was discovered on January 2nd.
Everyone who was impacted by the breach will be notified by the agency, and patients will also receive 24 months of credit monitoring at no cost.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital's remodel boosts ER capacity by 40%
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Renovations are almost complete at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. In just a matter of weeks, patients will be treated in a remodeled and new facility. Northampton Concert Series announced for 2025 On Thursday, the hospital welcomed local leaders and donors to tour a new addition to the emergency department. The renovations are set to better serve the community. Dr. Sunny Shukla, Associate Chief Medical Officer, told 22News, 'We have a CT scanner embedded into our ER instead of having to take a few-minute walk over to the CT scanner; there's one in the actual ED. We have trauma-based based here, we have a resuscitation room, and a lot of privacy for patients now.' The emergency department will increase by 40%, creating shorter wait times, increasing patient privacy, enhancing behavioral health care, and even improving the coordination of care in the ER. Patients will be treated at the new addition as early as July. The full emergency department remodel is set to be completed by next February. CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The weather is warming up, and the bugs are coming out. Springfield opens cooling centers as temperatures rise Mosquitoes are becoming more active, and there are some things you can do to help keep yourself from getting bitten. If you've spent any time outside recently, you've probably seen or even been bitten by a mosquito. The weather we've been having recently is why we're seeing more of them. 'Because we've had all this wet weather, thinking about these artificial containers on your properties,' says Natasha Wright, Entomologist with Braman Termite & Pest Elimination. 'If you have old pots, if you have a tar,p anything that can hold water can potentially breed mosquitoes, so finding those artificial containers and getting rid of them.' You can also get mosquito dunks that you can place in standing water to help kill the mosquitoes. To prevent yourself from being bitten, there are sprays you can buy. Look for the ones that contain DEET, they're the ones that are most effective. Mosquitoes are most active around dusk and dawn. Canadian wildfire smoke brings hazy skies to Massachusetts
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Smoke from wildfires burning in Canada is expected to cast a haze over the skies and diminish air quality in Massachusetts. The sun is out across much of western Massachusetts on Wednesday however, the sky is very hazy from wildfire smoke. This is wildfire smoke high in the atmosphere from Canada. The smoke gets caught in the upper levels of the jet stream and gets carried east, giving the smoke here in New England. Winds push smoke from Canadian wildfires south into US and compromise air quality The smoke may be noticeable in New England until Friday. If you have any photos or videos, email us at ReportIt@ An air quality alert has been issued for Hampden County until 11 p.m. The state has several air quality sensors in western Massachusetts, one in Ware near the Quabbin, one at Westover in Chicopee, and one at the State Police Barracks in Springfield. These sensors track five major air pollutants: ground-level ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and aerosols. Exposure to poor air quality can lead to headaches, irritated eyes, coughing, and difficulty breathing, especially for those with respiratory conditions like asthma. Young children, seniors, and pregnant women are also at a higher risk. To check the air quality where you live, visit When the reading reaches 201, the air is considered 'very unhealthy.' At the 'unhealthy' level, the EPA warns that some may experience health effects, while those who are considered more sensitive — children, the elderly, those who are pregnant, and those with health complications — may experience more serious health effects.
