Pacers All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton has been one of the defining figures in this series so far. He delivered a clutch jumper, banking in a pull-up from 21 feet with just 0.3 seconds on the clock to steal Game 1 in Oklahoma City.
While he was limited to 17 points and six assists in Game 2, Haliburton bounced back at home in Game 3, with a near-triple‑double, finishing with 22 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds in a statement 116‑107 win.

Following Wednesday night's game, NBA Legend Magic Johnson appeared on ESPN's First Take, alongside Stephen A. Smith and Molly Querim to discuss a host of topics. During a segment on the show, the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard urged Haliburton to raise his scoring output.

'What he's gotta do, Stephen A and Molly, is understand what he has to do to help the Pacers beat OKC,' Johnson said. 'You can't just have 15 assists and 12 points. That's not enough. You gotta score in this series.'
Johnson drew parallels to his own Finals era, noting that while playmaking is essential, Haliburton must also assert himself with consistent scoring and tempo-setting, much like he did against the Celtics in the 1980s.
The Pacers will hope Haliburton can elevate his scoring game as they continue the chase for their first NBA title on Friday.

Bills' James Cook Explains Surprise Minicamp Attendance
Bills' James Cook Explains Surprise Minicamp Attendance originally appeared on Athlon Sports. James Cook loves his teammates. And he really, really likes his money. Put the two together and it's no surprise the Buffalo Bills' star running back showed up at minicamp Tuesday morning. Advertisement 'I like my money. Definitely do,' Cook told reporters. "So, that's why I'm here.' Though he wants a new contract after leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season, Cook ended an offseason away from voluntary workouts to avoid fines for missing the mandatory minicamp that could've surpassed $100,000. 'I mean, why not? I'm here. I'm part of the team,' Cook said when asked why he participated in team drills. 'I'm a leader. So, just got to practice and get the job done.' He said he also plans to attend next month's training camp, though he wouldn't commit to practicing in pads without a new contract. Advertisement 'I love those guys,' Cook said of teammates that signed new contracts this offseason. "I mean, whatever they got paid, they got paid. That's not my problem. I mean, why would I get mad over something that they got? I'm happy for them, actually. So, however it gets done with this deal — or however you want to say — it gets done. But in the meantime, I'm here to work and be where my feet are.' The Bills' three-day minicamp is the team's last grouping until training camp at the end of July. Cook, a second-round pick in 2022, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He has rushed for 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons and led the league with 16 rushing touchdowns last season. He'd like a new contract before the season, but apparently isn't willing to make it a distraction to his team. "I really appreciate him being here," Bills' head coach Sean McDermott said. "I credit James. Business is business at the end of the day. I know he loves being around this team and the guys in the locker room, and he loves to play football. So, respect his decision to be here and be amongst the team and get some work in today, and we're looking forward to that." This late in the offseason teams usually have most of their roster set but the Buffalo Bills have found one more piece to plug into Sean McDermott's defense, adding veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson to the fold.
This late in the offseason teams usually have most of their roster set but the Buffalo Bills have found one more piece to plug into Sean McDermott's defense, adding veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson to the fold. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shaq Thompson spent the first 10 years of his career with the Carolina Panthers. When the team released him back in February, not only was there uncertainty about the next steps of his career, but any new destination would be a major change for him. Advertisement Thompson came off two serious season-ending injuries in the last two seasons, allowing him to only play a total of six games in that time. However, some deep-rooted connections would point him toward his next move. The Panthers drafted Thompson back in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, move orchestrated in some part with the help of Brandon Beane, Sean McDermott and Al Holcomb. Those three now hold roles with the Buffalo Bills. So it should not come too much as a surprise that the Bills finally claimed Thompson off the market this week, giving him another chance in the middle of their defense. Thompson called back to those connections in his initial conversations with reporters this week. "Man . . . got released from Carolina—that's the first step," Thompson said. "But just stayed in connection with [Sean] McDermott, with [Brandon] Beane, with Al Holcomb. Just staying in connection with them, updating them just on surgeries and rehabs and where I'm at and stuff like that. I've been there with them in 2015, in Carolina. So kinda just always had that bond there." Advertisement Thompson's last full season of football in 2022 was arguably one of his most productive, totaling a career high 78 solo tackles that contributed to a tally of 135 tackles overall. He joins a defense already operating at a high level, forcing the second-most turnovers in football last season with 32. Buffalo's +24 turnover margin was by far the top rank across the league. The Bills have a trusted core in place at linebacker already with Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard leading that charge. Yet, Thompson's addition could make for some needed depth if needed down the line and assuming he rids himself of the injury woes that cost him the last two seasons. Regardless, his connections certainly helped him make enough of an impression to earn a spot for the time being. His old Carolina pals would certainly enjoy him making a clean return to the field and impacting their defense in a positive way this season.
