‘Padma award validates all decisions I've made' says musician Ricky Kej
Among the Padma awardees gathered at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday evening to receive one of the country's highest civilian honours, was Bengaluru's own musician Ricky Kej who attended the ceremony with his mother on his arm. In a brief chat on a flight en route the USA, the three-time Grammy award winner shared the surreal joy of receiving the Padma Shri, saying, 'The award itself was announced on the eve of Republic Day this year and I was overjoyed, but it felt absolutely real only when I actually stepped into the Rashtrapati Bhavan.' Explaining the preparation that happens behind the scenes of what the nation sees on screen, he added, 'In the morning, a rehearsal was organised and it helped all of us award winners to be less nervous – we practiced the entire event flow, and pathway to walk to the president. We also got to know a little bit about the history of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.' Despite this, Kej's nerves had not completely dissipated. 'When my name was called out, it was a complete blur,' he recalls.
Because of being 'humbled by the entire event itself', Kej chose to make the walk barefoot. 'It is so amazing that the award goes to unsung heroes – people who are doing amazing work at the grassroots level, helping communities that have been historically left behind, and furthering the arts. It felt like I was in a temple and it was overwhelming as a spiritual moment. That is why I decided to walk barefoot and accept the award,' he explains, adding that despite his four Grammy nominations and three wins, the Padma Shri is the most special to him.

The defense for Sean "Diddy" Combs on Friday used upbeat social media posts to attack the credibility of one of the women accusing the music mogul of sexual assault during his federal trial in New York. "Isn't it true that Mr Combs never had unwanted nonconsensual forcible contact with you?" lawyer Brian Steel said to a former Bad Boys Records assistant testifying under the pseudonym Mia, during questioning that included displays of her personal social media posts. The testimony came as US President Donald Trump pondered aloud if he would offer 55-year-old Combs a pardon during a press conference at the White House Friday, saying "I don't know, I would certainly look at the facts." The facts are still unfolding in a trial that is expected to last into summer, in a case that revolves around Combs's relationship with his former girlfriend, singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura. Earlier in the trial Ventura detailed years of alleged abuse and coercive, drug-fueled sex marathons with male prostitutes known as "freak-offs." This week, Mia described how her job between 2009 and 2017 became a nightmare as she worked to protect Ventura from Combs's fits of rage, or care for her after the attacks, tending to "busted lips," "bruises" and "a black eye." Combs would tell Mia to "go take care of her," adding that "we were not allowed" to go out until her injuries healed enough to conceal, Mia testified Thursday. She also testified that she personally endured abuses, including rapes, while working for Combs, recounting the painful and traumatic episodes with her head bowed. During cross examination on Friday, Steel confronted Mia with her social media posts, where she presented a much more positive image of her relationship with her boss. On a courtroom screen displaying Mia's Instagram posts, she called Combs "an extraordinary cultural phenomenon" and shared affectionate messages on his birthdays. Steel asked how she could publish such posts about a man she now accuses of sexual assault. "Of course you post the great times," Mia said. "Instagram is a place to show how great your life was even if it's not true." After Mia read her posts aloud, Steel questioned Mia's allegations, to which she replied twice "everything I said in this courtroom is true." "Ask any abuse victim's advocate and they could explain it to you much better than I could." On Thursday, Mia testified that Combs subjected her to "sporadic" instances of sexual violence, including at the artist's 40th birthday party at the Plaza Hotel in New York and his private residence in Los Angeles. "I just froze, I didn't react, terrified and confused," Mia said about one of the assaults. "He was the boss or the king, very powerful person," she said. "This is years and years before social media, Me Too, or any sort of example where someone had stood up successfully to someone in power such as him," she added. Swift is aware of the buzz and plans to re-release Reputation, and her debut album, but she's not rushing it. Owning your masters means you fully control your music — how it's used, where it's played, and how much money you earn from it. Earlier, the pop star had to seek permission to use those songs or even sample them in her new music without permission from whoever owned those masters. Taylor started re-recording her old albums a few years ago after nearly giving up hope of repurchasing the masters. She created new versions of the same songs, which she has 100 percent control over. However, the singer added that this recent move won't stop her from releasing more of Taylor's Version, and she plans to re-release her Reputation album and her first debut album the same way. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it,' she added. Swift listed all the intense feelings that came with that album: rebellion, the feeling of wanting people to truly get her, but also feeling like they never really did, hope, embarrassment and boldness, all those factors that shaped that era. While penning her emotions, Swift made it clear that out of all her previous six albums, she feels Reputation is the one that never needed a redo, and thus, the wait. Not the songs, not the photos, not even the music videos. Everything about it felt complete to her. Because of that, she kept delaying the re-recording. But if it happens, it won't be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.' Taylor's whole re-recording journey started in 2019, when Scooter Braun bought the rights to all her old music from her former label, Big Machine Records. Fans have long wondered if Swift ever got a tattoo, and she cleverly dropped the answer in her handwritten note when she said, 'My first tattoo just might be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead,' giving a shoutout to the music company. Though the exact amount of money was not disclosed, Swift did say that she acquired those for an exceptionally fair amount.
