SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has approved an allocation of RM400,000 to repair houses damaged during a recent storm in Kampung Baru Ayer Hitam, Kampung Dusat and Felda Lui Barat in Jempol.
Senior state executive councillor Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said repair works began yesterday under the supervision of the district disaster committee and are expected to be completed within a week.
'To date, 94 houses in the three affected villages have been identified as damaged.
'Currently, 25 individuals from six families are being housed at the temporary relief centre at SMK Lui Barat, where they will remain until the repair works are completed,' he told Bernama.
It was reported that more than 80 houses in Felda Lui Barat and six houses in Kampung Baru Ayer Hitam in Jempol were damaged due to the storm and heavy rain on Saturday evening.
One of the victims, Vidawati Khalid, 48, said she and her two siblings incurred losses of nearly RM30,000 after their respective houses were damaged in the storm.
She said it was the first time such an incident had occurred, adding that her family was terrified as they witnessed the whirlwind tear through their home, ripping off the roof.
Vidawati said she and her two children managed to escape.
'I remember seeing the strong winds swirling through the living room. Thankfully, we took shelter in a bedroom before making our way to my mother's house to seek safety,' she said.

Drone deployed after storm frees cow set for Aidiladha sacrifice

KOTA BARU: A trader has turned to modern technology in a race against time to find a missing cow meant for sacrifice during tomorrow's Hari Raya Aidiladha. Mohammad Alwi, 35, has been using a drone to scour the surrounding area near his home here after a cow belonging to his father, valued at about RM5,000, went missing during a thunderstorm on Wednesday. He said the cow, which had been prepared for korban tomorrow, broke free from its tether during heavy rain and strong winds, and has not been seen since. "I've been searching around my village and nearby areas since yesterday, but there's still no sign of it," he said when met at his home today. Determined not to give up, Mohammad deployed his drone – equipment he has been using since early this year to monitor and retrieve his livestock whenever they wander off. "This isn't the first time I've used a drone to find my cows. "Usually, I'm able to track them down within hours. But this time, it's been more difficult, maybe because of the weather," he added. Mohammad, who has been involved in small-scale cattle farming in addition to running a business in Gua Musang, said he was especially disheartened as the cow had been reserved for a korban ceremony by his father's family. "I just hope I can find it in time. This isn't just about money – it's about fulfilling a religious duty. Many people are relying on this," he said. Despite the setback, Mohammad remains optimistic and continues his search, drone in hand, hoping the animal will turn up before the important festival begins tomorrow.

Aidiladha: Traffic Slow Moving On Major Highways, Getting Heavier On KLK Highway

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- Traffic flow on several major highways was reported to be congested and slow as of 5 pm this evening, following an increase in city folk vehicles leaving to celebrate Aidiladha in their hometowns. A spokesperson for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said traffic flow on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (KLK) had increased from the eastbound direction in Gombak to Genting Sempah. On the North-South Expressway (PLUS), traffic on the E2 route was also reported to be slow northbound from Pasir Gudang to Dato' Onn and from Senai Utara to Sedenak, and the same situation was also reported for the southbound route from Universiti Putra Malaysia to Nilai Utara, Nilai to Bandar Ainsdale and Seremban to Pedas Linggi. 'Traffic is also congested on the PLUS Highway, route E1 northbound from Bukit Lanjan to Rawang Selatan, Sungai Buaya to Bukit Beruntung, Bukit Tagar to Lembah Beringin and from Juru to Perai. 'Meanwhile, on the PLUS E1 in the southbound direction, the same situation also occurs from Juru Auto City to the Juru Toll Plaza,' he said when contacted by Bernama today. However, he said that the East Coast Highway (LPT) 1 and 2 are still smooth and under control in both directions. 'However, congestion is reported on the Sungai Besi Highway, therefore a tidal lane has been activated after the Mines Selatan Toll Plaza to UPM/Putrajaya from 4 pm to 8 pm tonight,' he said. -- BERNAMA BERNAMA provides up-to-date authentic and comprehensive news and information which are disseminated via BERNAMA Wires; BERNAMA TV on Astro 502, unifi TV 631 and MYTV 121 channels and BERNAMA Radio on FM93.9 (Klang Valley), FM107.5 (Johor Bahru), FM107.9 (Kota Kinabalu) and FM100.9 (Kuching) frequencies.
