
‘I couldn't get off the couch', says Ireland AM star as he reveals how online trolls ‘affected him' on a deep level
IRELAND AM star Eric Roberts has revealed how cruel online trolls left him glued to the couch for days.

, to discuss the issue with online trolls.
Dr Nicola told the presenters how Catholic, white, males are the least likely to be targeted by trolls.
She said: "
Women
are twice as likely to experience it, so are members of the LGBTQ+ community, anyone with a
disability
, anyone with a different skin colour."
However, Eric responded: "Well as a Catholic, white, male I can vouch. I've been posting on
social media
for three or four years now.

"I've always said that I'm so lucky that my community is so friendly and so positive, because I try and keep my content that way."
The social media
star
explained that his nephew Oisin, who has cerebral palsy,
features
in a large portion of his videos.
He added: "So in that case I really do have a zero tolerance policy."
After three years of posting content, Eric admitted that he had no experience with hateful messages or trolls.

But, unfortunately last year, the dad-of-one revealed that the hate "started to roll in".
Eric admitted: "I couldn't even get off the couch for a full day. Like I didn't think it would affect me as much as it did.

"I have friends in the industry who really went through a bad time too."
The popular presenter moved on to ask Dr Nicola if there would be any repercussions for trolls going forward.

He added: "There should be implementations put in place for people to actually get reprimanded for this behaviour."
Dr Nicola honestly replied: "It is quite difficult to prosecute and it's difficult to find the line between someone's right to free speech and what is criminal.
"I think social media platforms could be doing more."
She continued: "The kind of people that get caught up in it as opposed to the people who maliciously set out to do it
"It's much harder to prosecute them."
